As much as we wanted to see Neil Haskell kick ass on last night’s So You Think You Can Dance performance finale (results finale is tonight), it just wasn’t there. Instead, the night went to Danny Tidwell and Sabra Johnson with the above performance.
And as for the season’s only opportunity for male-male and female-female partnerships to take the stage? Lacey Schwimmer and Sabra’s “fox” routine was a bust, and Danny’s “masculine” princely duel with Neil was sorely lacking.
Now it’s your call: Who’s your pick for the $250,000 winner?

I could watch that man dance all day.
I liked the women’s routing. My biggest disappointment was with the men’s duet, and all the pseudo-hetero macho posturing it triggered in the judges (“It is two men on stage, so it will be AGGRESSIVE! It will be MASCULINE! Did I say masculine? Yes! It will be Masculine! and Aggressive!”).
For a show with so many gay dancers on it, it really does seem to run hard from the queer.

still voted for Neil…

I just came. Sabra who?

I liked the fox routine, and I liked the princes routine. Yes, it would be nice if they acknowledged the gay elephant in the room from time to time, but if you get past that, the Neil-Danny routine was actually very good. Not everything has to be gay, you know.
And sorry, but no, I did not like Danny & Sabra’s cha-cha. I competed in cha-cha for 10 years or more, so I know my cha-cha, and most of that routine was not cha-cha. And the bits that were were badly done.
I find it interesting that two of this year’s finalists are relatives of last year’s finalists. Lacey is (gay) Benji’s sister, and (gay) Danny is Travis’s adoptive brother. I’d like to have shared that bedroom.
I’m pretty sure I saw some contact between Danny and Pasha at the end of the last elimination round.

Travis is gay (and out) but Benji still claims to be straight, I think. Of course, Ivan supposedly had a girlfriend when he competed last season, but he and Travis have been looking awfully close recently.
The best dance last night was Danny’s solo, and I loved his waltz with Lacey. The way he moves is so beautiful, I could watch him dance for hours.
Woof
Was I the only one that saw Benji’s Miss America hand cover mouth cry when he won last year????? KAH-WEEN!
Stenar
Benji is the biggest queen I’ve ever seen. He’s not out, yet, ’cause he was raised Mormon (as was I). It takes the Mos (mormons) longer to come out than the general public.
Neil danced at least as well as Danny, so I disagree with your headline.

“Travis is gay (and out)”
Really? How did I miss this? Now I really want to be in that bedroom. I remember watching last year and thinking Travis might be gay, but when I saw him next to Benji it seemed clear to me who was the gayer of the two.
Also, look at the crowd shots from last night. There was another boy sitting next to Travis and his mum cheering Danny on, and he was definitely a nancy. Whose boyf is he, I wonder?
It is a shame the show can’t acknowledge the gays though. I’m not looking for all-gay-all-the-time here. I understand that sexuality needn’t have any relation to dancing ability, which is what the shows about.
But come on – it’s dancing. Gays are there, no-one can deny that. So just to let one of the boys mention in passing that his boyfriend is in the audience would be nice, or let Cat say “all the girls love you Neil – and half the boys too.”
To still have the “gays are okay as long as they’re sexless robots” thing in this day and age is ridiculous – on a dancing show, even more so.

still voted for Neil……..

I don’t need in-your-face gay either. What I don’t get with all of Nigel Lythgoe’s shows (well, this & American Idol) is that they’re simultaneously gay-friendly and strangely phobic. I don’t think Lythgoe goes one show without either praising a dancer for “dancing like a dude” or criticizing one for not being masculine enough.
Alexa
I think there’s a couple of reasons for that, starting with his background as a straight dancer himself. And he seems to want to encourage straight boys to dance, and as dancers are generally perceived as gay even if they’re not, that’s a hard thing to do. Sometimes his comments are ridiculous, though, like when Neil danced shirtless and Nigel commented that it did nothing for the guys watching. Did he not notice Adam Shankman sitting two seats away from him?
EdWoody, the boy next to Travis was Ivan, who I mentioned in my first comment. I don’t know if he and Travis are dating but they’re seemingly inseparable right now.
hucci
i doubt ivan is gay. he has been seen with travis a lot because 1) they’ve become good friends since their season, and 2) they’re currently going around the country teaching this dance class.
i feel like gay people (and people in general, really) tend to think that if a straight person is very close to a gay person of the same sex, then that straight person is automatically gay. it doesn’t work that way.
Jacob
Completely agree with hucci.
What Ivan and Travis have is what I would call a “bromance”. This is a best friendship between a straight man and a gay man. I’m openly gay, but I probably have more straight friends then gay.
My best friend is as straight as I am gay, but we still feel 100% comfortable around each other and are completely inseperable. He admitted to me that he likes having a gay best friend, because I’m not a threat to him and he doesn’t have to worry about me hanging with his girlfriend. Also, I teach him to look good and he teaches me how to play football so it works out well.
Also, having a gay best friend tests his sexuality, and confirms that he is straight. He is open to the idea of having gay friends and eliminates any insecurities he may have himself(compared to those closet homophobes). Even though he is very good looking, he knows I would never think of him more as I respect his sexuality and see him more as a brother then a hot guy I want to.. well you know.
I think there should be more “bromances” in this world, and good on Ivan and Travis for being so open about their friendship. I heard Neil and Danny were pretty good friends too! (Anyone seen those shirtless athletics track pictures yummm)
Tessa
I don’t care who’s gay or who’s not, but I have to say that I fell completely in love with Danny just because he’s such a beautiful dancer and a great person from what I’ve seen.If he happens to be gay, it will be a bummer (no pun intented!) cause I’m sure alot of straight women like me fell in love with him on the show!I’ll keep supporting him in everything he does and would hope to meet him in person one day!LUV U DANNY!!
Paula
TOTALLY agree with Tessa on this one. I dont know whos gay or not. Its a common sterotype that male dancer are gay. It isnt so until the person comes out and says it instead of word of mouth. Danny is the MAN!! I never enjoyed watching someone dance in my life he is so awesome!! I use to hate ballet but seeing him makes me want to take some classes lol. Everything he does seems perfect to me Hes going down in the books for sure. Danny is so hot and talent. God has really blessed him to do exactly what hes doing…

I know this is late, but I think the princely duel routine was fantastic.

The reason why it’s fishy that Travis and Danny are related and that all of his brothers or whatever end up on the show is simply because of this.
Travis’ mom owns a dance studio that pumps out all these amazing dancers. They all complete at dance competitions such as NYCDA. New York City Dance Alliance. Now for all of you who don’t know, NYCDA has a convention after the competition. And guess who teaches at these conventions. Yep, you guessed it, the judges and choreographer’s of SYTYCD. So, Danny and Travis and all of them already knew Mia, and Dan and etc before this TV show. Even I knew all of these people back in 2003-2004 before any of this stuff was on TV.
This is how I came to the conclusion that the show is indeed fixed. Sorry guys.
fredo777
Sorry, but the whole “who you know” argument really only convinces me that someone got an unfair advantage when that person isn’t talented enough to make it w/o said connections.
That said, whether or not Danny, Travis, etc. knew some people affiliated w/ SYTYCD before the show, they are both talented enough to make it onto the show + didn’t need anything to be “fixed” for them.
