She may not have been the first to applaud Jason Collins for being the first openly gay player in a major American sport, but Ellen’s congratulatory message is definitely the most sincere.
“You have no idea what a big deal that is,” she said during the opening monologue of yesterday’s show. “It was more challenging for him because he’s seven feet tall, and when he came out of the closet he had to duck.” Gotta love Ellen!
She continued:
“You’re an incredible role model. Because of you, there’s a little boy playing basketball right now, who knows that he can be who he is and play the sport that he loves.”
We agree. Let’s show some more love for the legendary children!

I’m not part of the legendary children. I’m part of the up-and-coming legendary
children. Oh, who am I fooling. My ballroom days are over. Actually, they never
arrived! Ellen is great and I feel Jason really got the ball rolling (no pun intended)

I will always love and support Ellen. Her talk show exposed my Mother and Grandmother to the gays and was one of the few things they could relate to when I told them I was gay. I feel it made my coming out just a little easier just by her being who she is. I’m sure Jason Collins will have that same influence on someone else.

@alterego1980: hey alterego- i agree with you totally. my mom had a hard time with me coming out. this was a long time ago but Ellen has totally brought her on side. i don’t think she’d listen to crap from anyone. hers is one of the few tv shows mom watches.

@Jean-Jacques Burlamaqui: Jean-Jacques Burlamaqui is not deserving of the approbation of humanity. Why don’t you go back to your cave and stay there. Humanity has no need for you.
