‘GMA’ host Lara Spencer admits she “screwed up” when she mocked 6-year-old boy for liking ballet

Good Morning America host Lara Spencer has issued another apology for demeaning Prince George over his love of ballet.

Spencer made the comments during a GMA pop culture segment last week when she profiled Prince George’s upcoming school curriculum. She also mocked George’s dad, Prince William, over his love of the dance.

“I’ve got news for you, Prince William. We’ll see how long that lasts,” Spencer said, inviting laughs from the crew.

Spencer’s comments invited immediate ridicule on social media as well as from dance legends like Broadway hoofer Debbie Allen, prompting the host to issue an apology via an Instagram caption accompanying a photo of serene lavender set against some ever-so-lovely rolling hills of green. Whose idea was that?!

“My sincere apologies for an insensitive comment I made in pop news yesterday,” she wrote. “From ballet to anything one wants to explore in life, I say GO FOR IT. I fully believe we should all be free to pursue our passions. Go climb your mountain-and love every minute of it.”

Spencer also issued an on-air apology on Monday morning. “I screwed up,” she confessed. “I did. The comment I made about dance was insensitive, it was stupid, and I am sorry. I spoke with several members of the dance community over the last few days. I have listened. I have learned about the bravery that it takes for a young boy to pursue a career in dance. And last night, I sat down with three influential dancers who lived it – firsthand.”

Prince George, who is six years old, attends dance classes at St. Thomas Battersea school in London.
