Joe Solmonese finds himself backed into a corner on yearning for same-sex marriage. So much so that he’s willing to take it where he can get it, even in the form of Ken Mehlman who, two seconds ago, was the Human Rights Campaign’s biggest target. Or should’ve been.
Chatting with the Log Cabin Republican’s R. Clarke Cooper on Chris Matthews’ show, Solmonese now finds himself — and thus, the entire LGBT community, because he speaks for all of us remember! — teaming up with a guy who terrorized this very community IN THE LAST DECADE.
Happy bedfellows, Joe.

Why would you be surprisd? We are constantly told how “In” HRC is, and how they have complete “Access”. Well if that is the case, then they like everybody else in DC, must have known that Mehlman was gay and protected him. So why would it surprise me that Solomnase was teaming up with Mehlman when he has apparently been doing his bidding and protecting him for years?

When I see Joe Solmonese being used as THE mouthpiece for gay issues, supposedly speaking on behalf of the whole lot of us, I email the show to remind them that HRC and Joe S represent HRC and Joe S. Oh, and raising money to throw parties to raise money.

Don’t you just love being a political tool, guys? I know I do.

Mehlmen is a total asset to the entire coming-out-of-the-closet gay culture. The guy is pure power dollars and the biggest single handed slap to the right wing, probably ever. Any gay politico would be a total fool not to invest in such a blue chip stock of an iconical mega politico magnate.

@idavid:
How is he a slap to the right wing? He did their bidding when he was in power. As head of Bush’s campaign in 2000 he presided over a virulently anti-gay P.R. push. As head of the RNC in 2004 he was the head of an organization that pushed anti-gay ballot measures in most of the states, they succeeded in around 11.
Now that his guy is no longer president, the other side has both houses and the White house, and the Tea Party is pushing out many of the old guard GOP folks, he is jobless. So finally, now that he has no place in the power echelons he finally decides to come out.
And how typical of HRC to wet themselves over a has-been and to say how much that person can help us. Yeah HRC, Lance Bass really changes minds everywhere he goes doesn’t he? Siiiigh.

@Cam: bs.@Cam:
Q: How is he a slap to the right wing?
A: He did their bidding when he was in power. As head of Bush’s campaign in 2000 he presided over a virulently anti-gay P.R. push. As head of the RNC in 2004 he was the head of an organization that pushed anti-gay ballot measures in most of the states, they succeeded in around 11. And now he has abandoned social-conservative opposition to same-sex marriage.
Remark: So finally, now that he has no place in the power echelons he finally decides to come out.
Fact: People who do not think they are gay do not usually come out as gay.
Unfortunately, lots of Republican legislators won’t introduce or vote for gay-friendly bills. That reminds me of many Democrats. But I prefer to support anyone who would give support to the gays, and Mehlman still has a platform and money.
