Kevin McHale may or may not have come out on Instagram yesterday.
The 29-year-old Glee star posted a mysterious image/caption combination to Instagram showing two hands that both appear to be male, along with an emoji that means “I love you” in American Sign Language.

People immediately began speculating who the other hand might belong to, and if this was McHale’s way of coming out publicly. Many seem to think it’s McHale’s When We Rise co-star Austin McKenzie, who starred in the Deaf West Theater production of Spring Awakening, and who has worked using ASL extensively.

So far, neither McHale nor McKenzie have officially responded to the rumors. But then today, Kevin posted another cryptic picture. In it, he is seen shirtless and reading a book by a pool in Barra Grande. In the distance, another hot shirtless dude can be seen with his back to the camera. The photo is captioned: “My favorite way to be anti social #tb“.

We can’t help but wonder… Who’s the guy in the background? And why so antisocial, Kevin? The whole internet is talking about you right now.

It’s because there are a sh*t ton of internet trolls but also still a ton of self-loathing, hetero-worshipping and/or locked-in-the-closet for life gay and gay-leaning people who hate for others to legitimately come out and hate to see same-sex love or commitment. Self-understanding, coming out, being able to be completely honest with yourself and others, and gaining complete self-comfort is still a major process and journey for many no matter their orientation or circumstances and no matter the day and age.

Sure, Kevin’s playing coy with the details, but about people’s coming out processes…Who made you guys the arbiters of how it should and shouldn’t be done? I thought his outing was very tastefully anti-drama and non-descript. And instead of focusing on identity or sex or trying to titillate or shock he focused on love and a relationship.
