MA Supreme Court Chief Margaret Marshall Legalized Same-Sex Marriage. Now, She’s Retiring

California Supreme Court Chief Justice Ron George, who wrote the 2008 decision legalizing same-sex marriage, announced his retirement last week. Now Massachusetts Supreme Court Chief Justice Margaret Marshall, the 83-year-old South African native who in 2003 write her court’s same-sex marriage ruling, is also retiring. Her husband of 26 years has Parkinson’s disease, and she wants to spend more time with him.
