With a stellar all-star cast that includes Mark Ruffalo, Matt Bomer, Julia Roberts and Jim Parsons, Ryan Murphy‘s film adaptation of The Normal Heart has been as eagerly anticipated as any project in recent memory. But now that HBO has released an incredible longer trailer for the movie, we’re officially counting the days until the May 25 premiere.
Based on Larry Kramer‘s Tony Award-winning play, the film chronicles the early years of the AIDS crisis in New York City and focuses on Ruffalo’s activist character Ned Weeks (inspired somewhat by the playwright) and his allies in the medical community as they attempt to expose the truth about the burgeoning epidemic to a city in denial. My first instinct when reading this before watching the trailer was “not another gay themed movie” but then after watching the trailer I can’t wait to see this movie. I also have to realize that like it or not, the AIDS epidemic is something that is inextricably linked to our community in terms of its impact and the numbers of those infected and those we have lost to the virus.

@Mdterp01: Yeah it’s just “another gay themed movie” based on an award winning play from 30 years ago, written by one the men that started GMHC and ACTUP.

@Mdterp01: Yeah, why would a website catering to gay men be interested in “another gay themed movie?”

Ok, it looks like it will be good.
But how about if Hollywood thinks about putting out a big movie with all these stars that ISN’T about AIDS or where everybody ends up dead or miserable “Brokeback”.
Get this cast together and Do a gay movie along the lines of Four Weddings, or Do a Gay Horror movie like Cabin in the Woods, or hell, just have a damn gay couple the next time you do a stupid Vince Vaughn comedy about how he can’t commit. etc…

Matt Bomer you’re my hero.
