“…Sixteen months after announcing his candidacy, and after twenty-six Presidential debates and thousands of public-speaking engagements, Obama remains a puzzle to many voters. Almost as dedicated a policy wonk as Hillary Clinton and arguably more centrist in his economic beliefs, he offers plenty of specifics about what needs to be done. But his captivating eloquence and his slogan–“Change We Can Believe In”–have seemed to lift him dangerously high above the concrete. He has proved his steadiness of purpose without clearly defining his priorities. What, above all, does he intend to accomplish if he is elected President?” [New Yorker]

Face it, college kids who are supporting him have no clue why – the curious thing is – why are people in there 30’s and 40’s??
With no policy experience and his constant change on positions – His slogan should read:
“Change in Position Guaranteed!”
Darth Paul
Please. Why do people keep acting like the executive branch has singular authority? Every President is tied by Congress, so grandiose promises are irrelevant. He’s smart to keep “intents” minimal.

The choices are simple: do we want more of the same erosions of our personal freedoms and illegal and murderous invasions of soverign countries under the dictatorial Repubilican regimes or do we want a Democrat who promises a change in course?
And frankly, I am suffering from the Bush/Republican fatigue syndrome so much I really don’t care what Obama does in office, it certainly will not be any worse.
fredo777
I know exactly why I’m voting for him. Look at the alternatives:
Should I vote for McCain? Pfft.
How about Barr? Pffft.
Or, I could stay home + not vote at all. Pfffffft.
I’m voting for him because he’s the candidate I’d rather see in office. As I would have voted for Hills if she had gotten the nom.
blake
Tom,
People are supporting him because he does have experience as legislator in the Illinois State Senate and the U.S. Senate besides his already stated positions and belief in his ability to get the country out of the GOP created mess.
It’s hilarious to see so many gay folks happily and self-destructively jumping onto the McCain bandwagon. The guy has a horrible record on gay rights: doesn’t support ENDA or marriage/civil unions. In fact, McCain jumped at the chance to lend his support to the nutters in California seeking a referendum to change the state constitution to ban same-sex marriage.
On the other hand, we have openly racist gay men like Churchicky and R2D2 who just don’t like Obama because he’s of African descent. Yep, just try going to a Klan, Aryan Nations, or Skinhead meeting to seek solidarity and try be an openly gay white supremacist. Good luck. Don’t forget to bring your pink triangles.
Seriously, the GOP constantly uses anti-gay rhetoric, embraces the likes of the Reverend Dobson, and used same-sex marriage as a wedge issue since 2004 to get out the vote. But, still gay Republicans have no problem with their well known third-class status.
Even worse, there are non-Republican gays who are joining the McCain ranks because Obama has the same position that Hillary Clinton and John Edwards have on same-sex marriage. These gay folks want to teach the Democrats a lesson. Oy vey!
Yeah, teach those Dems a lesson by golly! Make sure that ultraconservatives anti-gay judges are appointed to the U.S. Supreme Court and federal bench for lifetime appointments! Just a day after Roe v. Wade is overturned, say hello to the return of sodomy laws. Make sure that ENDA never passes!
Well, who cares if gays who do not live in liberal states don’t have state laws protecting them from being fired or denied housing because they are gay? They should just move to a better state! Heck, just leave for Canada.
And, Iraq? Who cares if more American kids are sent into the meat grinder and die or are severely crippled? That doesn’t affect those gay men who plan to vote for McCain. Why should they care about their fellow Americans? What does it concern them if some 20 year old kid loses a limb or is brain damaged? There’s no need to worry about the ballooning deficit and the U.S. indebted status to China, blatant war profiteering.
As for excessive taxes on the middle & working class or universal health care, why should wealthy gay men who are voting for McCain care? Feh, they’ve got theirs and the rest can fight for their slice of pie.
Don’t worry! Be happy!
Oy vey!

Quick? Can anyone provide a link to McCain’s web page for the GLBT community?
Has McCain vowed to repeal DOMA or Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell?
BTW, it’s amazing that people are still lazy and can’t go to Obama’s web site to read his policy positions: http://www.barackobama.com/issues/
Reading. It’s a cool thing that all the groovy kids are doing these days. Kinda like that Intertubes thing.

Feh, I’m far from being wealthy, I don’t know what you meant by “theirs” but if you meant money I ain’t got any as I’m struggling to put food on the table of my family. But what I do know that I have is dignity and self respect and I know I’m not going to go under a table for some crumbs to be thrown below when I a full blooded American have as much a right as he and any black person has to be treated equally under the U.S Constitution. But of course that’s how african Americans behave because as someone rightfully put it they do not want to share their
special victimhood with anyone else especially with Gay people and our claims to be treated equally which they see as a mere eccentricity and not a civil right.
CHURCHILL-Y
Because I will never forget that the only reason that I’m standing here today is because somebody, somewhere stood up for me when it was risky. Stood up when it was hard. Stood up when it wasn’t popular. And because that somebody stood up, a few more stood up. And then a few thousand stood up. And then a few million stood up. And standing up, with courage and clear purpose, they somehow managed to change the world.â€- Barack Hussein Obama, Nov 30 2007
and then of course us illiterate kids can compare this to:
“TAPPER: Do you think that the fact that this is now going on in California, does that cause you to re-think your pledge to repeal the Defense of Marriage Act?
OBAMA: No. I still think that these are decisions that need to be made at a state and local level. I’m a strong supporter of civil unions. And I think that, you know, we’re involved in a national conversation about this issue. You know, I believe that marriage is between a man and a woman” – You can find it right here on Queerty.
fredo777
“I know exactly why I’m voting for himâ€- No. 4 : He’s black.
No, sorry. That’s likely why you’re not voting for him, but isn’t why I am. Nice projection of your own issues onto someone else, though. See a shrink.
CHURCHILL-Y
“That’s likely why you’re not voting for him”
Feh, I’m not voting for him because he’s a hypocrite as you are. When I start taking advice from a ghetto wacko like you then I’m gonna need a shrink.

Ha. And, once again, the leopard shows his spots.
I rest my case.

Obama reminds me of an African God from legends past. He will be a legend for all future generations. I love him.

I think a lot of gays are not going to vote for him and flat out abstain from voting because of his stance on gay marriage. It is insulting that a black man and constitutional attorney stand for
keeping us second class citizens, but obviously the vote of the religious right is more important than ours or he is unable to separate his own religious views, if true the thats sad for a constitutional attorney but then there is a lot of that going around. His support of the FISA bill has also disturbed a lot of people both gay and straight. Our civil rights and 4th amendment rights have been under assault for the last 8 years and from his track record I do not see that he is really any different.

Fredo,
I could not agree with you more. Church-klansman is now saying he’s anti-Obama because he doesn’t want to be treated like a second class citizen. That’s interesting because before Hillary bowed out, Church-Nazi was just blatantly anti-black. What’s evident is that Church-Nazi is projecting his racist voting practices on you. He obviously believes that every one must be as racist as he is.
Also, notice how Church-Nazi misuses Obama’s quote about DOMA to imply that Obama support DOMA when he is for its repeal!
Directly from Obama’s Website:
Expand Hate Crimes Statutes
In 2004, crimes against LGBT Americans constituted the third-highest category of hate crime reported.
Obama co-sponsored legislation to expand federal hate crimes law to include crimes perpetrated
because of sexual orientation or gender identity.
Fight Workplace Discrimination and Promote Rights
Obama believes the Employment Non-Discrimination Act should be expanded to include sexual orientationand gender identity. Obama sponsored legislation in the Illinois State Senate that would ban employment discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation.
Support Full Civil Unions and Federal Rights for LGBT Couples
Barack Obama supports full civil unions that give same-sex couples equal legal rights and privileges as married couples, including the right to assist their loved ones in times of emergency as well as equalhealth insurance, employment benefits, and property and adoption rights. Obama also believes we need to fully repeal the Defense of Marriage Act and enact legislation that would ensure that the 1,100+ federal legal rights and benefits currently provided on the basis of marital status are extended to same-sex couples in civil unions and other legally-recognized unions.
Oppose a Constitutional Ban on Same-Sex Marriage
Obama voted against the Federal Marriage Amendment, which would have defined marriage as between a man and a woman and prevented judicial extension of marriage-like rights to same-sex or other unmarried
couples.
Repeal Don’t Ask-Don’t Tell
Obama believes we need to repeal the “don’t ask, don’t tell†policy. The key test for military service should be patriotism, a sense of duty, and a willingness to serve. Obama will work with military leaders to repeal the current policy and ensure we accomplish our national defense goals.

“Project prima donna”? Damn, all this guy can do is use racist attacks against you, Fredo? Does this guy even know you or your background? Since he knows you’re African-American, he assumes you must be from the “ghetto” or a “project.”
LOL!
Church-Nazi,
I never said that you were wealthy. I mentioned wealthy because another poster on another thread said that he was is a wealthy gay man and does not care about tax reform for middle and working class Americans.
Also, there are plenty of non-blacks who support Obama.
Michael,
As a poster said on another thread, Hillary Clinton had the same position as Obama. No one can get elected by saying he/she supports gay marriage. What Obama is doing is offering a sleight of hand. He’ll fight to give you all of the rights of marriage as a civil union but will appoint judges who can make the Supreme Court decision that will overturn state constitutional law.
In the meantime, Obama fights for all of the other key legislation like ENDA, repealing DOMA, and dumping Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell. Isn’t freedom from discrimination in the workplace and housing important to you?
This is the same strategy that was used in the Civil Rights movement. Many of the key laws that protected against discrimination in housing and employment were enacted through legislation. Kennedy and Johnson appointed liberal judges like Thurgood Marshall who then ruled in favor of Lovings in Lovings v. Virginia, which struck down laws banning interracial marriage.
Of course, other key federal judicial rulings ensured other rights. But the key is getting the judges in place. John McCain is not going to appoint liberal judges to the federal courts. Period. Look at Anton Scalia and his comments. Federal judges sit for lifetime appointments. Appellate court judges are crucial roles.
A president can hope to have dozens put in place in his/her time in office. Given that judges serve into their 80s, a young conservative McCain appointee could be on the bench for 30 or 40 years.
What do you think that will lead to for America? Look at Bush’s choices for judges. Some of them were scary and barely got stopped.

Blake, his racially-motivated insults neither surprise nor bother me. It is what it is.
Kid A
So Michael, and others thinking like him, you’ve never voted for a major presidential candidate? Because I can’t think of one who truly supported same-sex marriage. Or are you just passing on Obama?
The truth is, he’s got an LGBT section on his website, has run ads referencing Stonewall, etc. etc. He has no problem with gay people. It’s sad, but there’s no way he can get elected by vocally supporting gay marriage. But that doesn’t mean that while in office he can’t veto a FMA rebirth or appoint friendly judges.
ChristopherM
Jackasses like Churchilly think their whiteness will protect them, that somehow white privilege is a shield against homophobia. That or they are just the sort of people whose reaction to getting shit on is to find someone else about whom they can say, “Well at least I’m better than THEM!” It just leads me to wonder, exactly how blatant of a racist does one have to be to get kicked out of here like we hear he was from Towleroad?
RPCV
Ever heard of Jim Jones, the cult leader for whom hundreds (thousands??) died following his diatribes??? That’s Obama………
blake
Fredo, I understand. I find it bizarre to read that guy’s attempts at attacking Obama as if blatant racism and lack of attention to facts does not discredit him. Church-Nazi slams Obama for “bigotry” but feels completely comfortable, if not jubilant, in his racist attacks against you?
Governors Deval Patrick and David Patterson can go out of their way to show support for gay marriage; however, as far as Church-Nazi is concerned, they do not exist because they destroy his delusion of evil black people who want to hurt white gay men and white people in general.
What logic is that? None. It’s just the voice of a racist who does not like the idea of a “black” man as president even if it leads to horrible consequences for gays.
I think that line of reasoning is recognizable amongst many gay Republicans in that they can live in a closeted bubble or benefit from laws passed by liberal Democrats while supporting politicians who either directly or tacitly support oppressive laws that harm GLBT Americans. Their power, privilege and discretion assure them a good life. By definition, almost sociopathic:
“In the true sociopathic personality, the person is walled off from their core. What they present to the world is a façade of who they really are. Their operational system is power.”
A few years ago, I read about a top GOP operative who was famous for his ruthless dirty tricks to destroy Democrats. When marriage became available, he and his partner were happy to take advantage of the work that liberals created. Next day, he was back to work. Scumbag.
Kid A
RPCV, in the Jonestown Massacre, 909 people died, mostly from cyanide-laced grape Flavor Aid (not Kool Aid as you people tend to analogize). Kids were given poison first, all 276 of them, and those who cried or refused to die were injected with it. Families were laid together and told that “death was their friend.” Jones was found dead with nearly-lethal amounts of drugs in his system.
Until Obama’s followers in the hundreds commit forced suicide because of Obama’s drug fueled religious ranting, I’ll have to assume that you’ll say anything to unoriginally describe Obama supporters as “Kool Aid drinkers” or “Obamaniacs.” In the meantime, keep in mind the horrible event that you so casually invoke when attacking politically-involved citizens.
RPCV
Kid A: Thanks for providing me the mathematical equation – Obama + supporters = cult leader + Kool Aid drinkers.
ChristopherM
I think the real Kool Aid drinker would be a gay like you who supports a party that raises money by playing up fear of gay people.

Re: your continued harassment
Dear Miss Sedaris:
The harassment by yourself and your friends that continues to take place is making me feel suicidal.
I have mentioned this several times in the past to you and your friends over the past several months, and I believe you are aware of it. But just in case you are not, I wanted to send you this letter by certified mail and have it delivered to you by hand to make sure that you are aware of this.
I am sending copies of this letter to the Court and to a few of your acquaintances — not to annoy you but in hopes that they might offer their advice to you on this matter and persuade you to stop. It may be that you thought this was a joke, but it is not.
Please stop harassing me. You and your friends are already being sued for making a secret videotape of me having sex, which is a felony. It has been suggested that your friends were able to plant a listening device in my apartment, which if true is a second felony. Apparently your acquaintances have been paying people for sex as part of this, which if true is a third crime.
I am sorry you are unhappy. But harassing someone to the point where they feel suicidal is probably not the solution.
Sincerely,
Jeff Barge

Yeah, isn’t it wonderful that Queerty’s other openly racist poster R2D2 is here?
Calling people who support Obama cultists is just another absurd smear. Unlike Jonestown victims, none of Obama’s have gone off to live on a secluded, armed hideaway, nor has anyone sold off all of her/his possessions nor disowned all family, etc., etc.
By no measure are the vast majority of Obama supporters cultists. The average contributions to the Obama campaign are in small denominations: $10, $20, $50, or $100.
People have the ability to read his policy statements, like his stand on repealing DOMA, ending Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, enacting ENDA, and giving full equality to all federal marriage rights to gay Americans.
Since R2D2 is a Republican parasite, who sits back and supports politicians who strive to deny rights to gay Americans. All the while, he happily takes advantage of civil liberties provided by the hard work of liberal Democrats. Of course, as R2D2 has stated, he works in the federal government in D.C. and is protected from discrimination by rules enacted by Democrats.
Those same anti-discrimination rules that Republicans sought to crush throughout the Bush administration, which was only to happy to follow the direction of anti-gay religious fundies, prevented workplace discrimination from derailing R2D2’s career. As reported widely, the Bush administration hired and placed many fundies in key positions throughout the federal government.
R2D2 has no problems with the anti-gay ways of the GOP. He’s proud of his party and his firmly ensconced position as third-class cultist.
Sit. Spin. Beep. Beep. Good robot, RCPV.
What flavor was the Kool-Aid you drank?
Mr C
That R2D2 Bitch and Churchychicken is just angry this Man is not going to do anything different that Hillary wouldn’t do.
But it amazes me how Chuchychicken keep saying we (blacks) feel that we’re entitled to the Presidency. Actually that’s how a lot of people felt about Hillary. But folks isn’t it strange. Churchychicken doesn’t want to be treated like a 2nd class citizen and has so much fear that Obama will turn on whites please GET REAL. And this bitch wasn’t even alive during the civil rights movement yet garners so much HATE…POOR SISSY.
As R2D2 no comment she knows the deal……still a punk living amongst the people you hate yet don’t have enough nerve to confront not a one with those negative rants. BITCH KNOWS THE DRILL!
Children, please bury such non-sense and look at the Big Picture!
