Blue America PAC sent out this gay-baiting flier to Claremont, California, residents. Apparently they’re hoping to use the Republican’s “homosexual” rhetoric against incumbent Congressman David Dreier.
We can't rely on mainstream media to tell our stories. That's why we don't lock Queerty articles behind a paywall. Will you support our mission with a contribution today?
Who is blue pac? Are we suppose to know who they are?
Crazylove, if you bothered to read the link Andrew provided, you would have read this:
The mailer also indicated that it was paid for by Blue America PAC, which is an organization headed by DJ, record producer and political blogger Howie Klein.
Here’s some more info on Dreier’s voting record; from Hustler magazine of all places:
Oh, I forgot, we only trash closeted republicans who vote against our community.
Says who? Any closeted politico who votes against LGBTQ’s should be raked over the coals.
Just as Ms. Mikulski had Teresa Mary Brennan living with her and being paid with the tax payer’s dime as a congressional aide; so does Dreier, who pays his bf/chief of staff, $400 shy of the legal limit–$156,600 annually. And then flies his pretty boy all over the world on tax payer funded jaunts.
What is it with these closeted, anti-gay queers voting against the rest of us and paying their lovers massive sums of public cash ?
Drier is a moderate and votes with our community on some issues. You may recall that he voted against the FMA, for example.
This is just ugly partisanship in which homophobia is stirred up to help one Party with no regard as to what it does for the community.
I have little respect for those who out enemies of our community. I think that is far too personal of an issue to engage in outing. But I can see the other argument.
But when we begin outing those who ARE NOT active enemies of our community, and when it is only out of partisanship, then I think it is DISGUSTING and IRRESPONSIBLY harmful to me and other gay men and women.
Mikulski had an 89% rating for pro-gay voting in the most recent Congress. I think it is sad that she wants to remain in the closet, but I find no need to trash people who vote for us.
Drier is a moderate and votes with our community on some issues. You may recall that he voted against the FMA, for example.
From a LA Weekly article on Dreier:
Dreier clearly meets that standard, for his voting record is strewn with anti-gay positions. To cite just a few: He opposed the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA), which would have banned discrimination against gay people in hiring; voted for the gay-bashing Defense of Marriage Act; voted for banning adoption by gay and lesbian couples in the District of Columbia (3,000 miles away from Dreier’s district); voted to allow federally funded charities to discriminate against gays in employment, even where local laws prohibit such bias; and voted against the Hate Crimes Prevention Act.
Dreier is not just a political homophobe but a heartless AIDS-phobe as well, voting against the Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS (HOPWA) program designed to give shelter to the impoverished sick, and against funding for the federal ADAP program that furnishes the poor with the AIDS meds they need to stay alive.
Perhaps I should rephrase for the terminally stupid. Why should we care about Blue Pac?
Because Howie Klein is doing what “men” like you haven’t got the balls to do.
It’s funny how gay media is like 4 years behind where the rest of the media is on stuff. Here, we have this site which regularly does the false equivalency stuff. They find some example of how Democrats are apparently as “bad” as the GOP without any context of magnitude, person or anything else. The GOP doesn’t want gay marriage or anything else for gays and backs Prop 8, but it’s the Dems who are against gays because they don’t back Prop 8, etc. This is why I asking this question- why should we care about this? Are you saying that every instance of action by individual actors somehow reflects on a greater point about the two parties? If not- then why is this relatively minor incident important in the middle of an election?
Crazylove, Dreier is a closeted, gay Republican who votes against measures that will give gays equality; yet pays his live in lover/employee a huge salary, while also flying said lover around the world on tax payer funded pleasure trips.

It’s a good thing that we are expecting a Democrat landslide. With all these gay politicians against our interests, at least we can get other business done like recovering from 8 years of George W Bush! No WAR in my name!
If one separates the ad from the whole “gay-but-not-out Republican” stuff, it becomes pretty clear that this is a pretty despicable ad. Good lord, they even grag out the “homosexual lifestyle” BS!!! Did the Blue America PAC people get help from Gary Bauer in writing this ad? Pretty disgusting…
I’m so f’ing tired of this “identity politics” BS I could puke!!! It’s poisonous, it’s a big part of what’s wrong with politics in this country. I have never voted “as a member of the gay community,” I just vote for me, as an individual American.
Yes, yes, yes… YAWN! Politics, ethics, etc… But you’ve missed THE most salient point brought to light by this ad: it is NEVER proper to wear some tacky pinky headband for any reason.

I approve this message.
Dreier is no friend of LGBTQ’s and has voted against every measure that would extend equality to us. Just another closeted homocon. Fuck ‘im.
ggreen
Nothing EVER sticks to Dreier. He is protected by The Orange County Register and Homophobe Howard Ahmanson.

And look what that got you over the last eight years.
St. Francis Of-a-sissy
I did what I could, Paul, I voted for Gore in ’00 & Kerry in ’04.
I have to admit, though, that I would have been mightily tempted to commit voter fraud & voted several times if given the opportunity…
Timothy
Remove Dreier’s name from the ad and you have unfiltered, unhesitating, unadulterated pure hateful homophobia.
I refuse to forgive it just because it was put out by Democrats. Those of you who put Party before integrity are no friends of the community.
St. Francis Of-a-sissy
Thank you, Timothy.
When we use their tactics, we become them.
