Pastor Kevin Swanson (pictured) is absolutely livid over up-and-coming country crooner Kacey Musgraves’ pro-gay song “Follow Your Arrow,” according to Right Wing Watch.
“If she had sang [sic] that thing in a country bar in the 1920s or 1880s in Denver, Colorado, somebody would’ve called for a rope,” Swanson boasted on his radio program earlier this month. “She would not have made it out of town!”
The angry pastor then went on to accuse 25-year-old Musgraves of “promoting homosexuality” and “abandoning the traditional church.”
“That’s critical for the dismantling of the Christian faith in the heartland!” he warned listeners.
We highly doubt Musgraves cares what the hate monger/emotional basket case has to say, however. She has plenty of other things to focus on. Earlier this year, she won Grammys for Best Country Song and Best Country Album, and now, GLAAD has invited her to perform at the 25th Annual GLAAD Media Awards on May 3. She will be the first country singer ever to perform at the ceremony.
“America’s heartland is changing and support for equality continues to grow across party lines, in our faith institutions, and in country music,” GLAAD President & CEO Sarah Kate Ellis said. “Kacey Musgraves is ushering in a new era in the country music industry, where supporting all loving families is now a core country value. It’s only fitting then that Kacey is to become the first country music artist to perform at the New York GLAAD Media Awards.”
Musgraves will be joined by pop veteran Kylie Minogue, who will also be performing at next Saturday’s event. It’s sure to be a fabulous evening, and one that will no doubt have Pastor Swanson barring his doors and clutching his Bible for dear life.

Who the hell cares what this piece of fecal matter thinks???

It’s disturbing when believers say things like this. We’re not in the “old days.” We don’t live in a settlement. We’re not Quakers. We live in 2014. We’ve lived through a history of violence. We’ve seen what bigotry, prejudice, discrimination and hatred can do, and he still says, “She would be hanged…” What kind of man is he? What sort of fantasies does he conjure up. This is one sick man.
Chris
If that wasn’t a death threat then nothing is. If I were Kacey I’ll be filing a complaint with the police.

Something very important about the song Follow Your Arrow that he’s making such a fuss about is that while Kacey Musgraves is not gay her co-writers Shane McAnally and Brandy Clark are both openly gay. Shane also co-produced the album. In fact Entertainment Weekly had an article on Shane not too long ago on the occasion of his 100th song to be recorded by an artist with a label deal.
It would be very cool if he and Steve Grand could do something together.
PARKAVMAN
He said it because he is such a ‘Good Christian’.
Stache99
Yeah, and I’m sure grifters like Swanson would’ve done just fine in the 1880’s with a highly ignorant population at the time.

@PARKAVMAN: Chico, Christianity is a mental ill ness! Christian are mentally ill.
SteveDenver
Another loudmouth idiot calling for violence in the name of religion.
Peaceable Christians who are accepting need to rise up and shout him down or they likely will be marked by the same brush he brandishes.

@tardis:
Well said…point well made.
The truly sorrowful thing are his followers, who he knows enjoy his manner of heaping scorn on the things they all dislike.
@SteveDenver:
The best thing to do here with people like him is to continue to expose their mocking-nonsense at every turn.

Oh thank you Pastor Swanson! I just looked up and listened to this song “Follow your arrow”. I love it! And I will pass it on to all my friends.
EGO
Perhaps Pastor Kevin Swanson should be hanged for his hateful comments! ;>)

Alan, thanks for the info! And I do like Kasey Musgraves; she’s one of the bright spots on today’s country radio. Maybe she could work with out country artists Drake Jensen (underknown and underappreciated) and Chely Wright, too!
Thad1527
Oops! It’s Kacey. At least I got Musgraves right!

@Mezaien: Oh look everyone! It’s the Christianophobe Islamophobe everythingophobe! Irrational phobias are also a mental illness.

Thanks Pastor.You remind me how much our society has evolved in the last 100 years.I promise you if you don’t learn to play with talented smart and beautiful girls like her you will play Kevin “HOME ALONE” in 100 years…

I am embarrassed for this guy, and for real, it’s in everyone’s best interest for him to STFU. that said, i want to point out that Queerty posts every article that has even a remote possibiity of making christians look like dweebs. queerty promotes anti-christian mockery and brings out anti-christian hatred among gays, and gays really do have a lot of that !! if the hateful comments that are regularly said about christians on queerty were said about jews or muslims the editors would have to close down the comments section. and right now i have to steel myself against the barrage of “your an idiot” comments that are about to come my way from the haters I referenced above. why do i do this to myself?

I am a woman.And if another women behaves like an idiot she is an idiot.Its totally O.K. to me if other people call her an idiot.”You are such a womaQn” seem to be the most deadly insult on Queerty. I can’t take that serious or personal.I like it to be a woman .And if you like it to be christian,enjoy.If you feel pissed about comments,comment it.

I find it funny that Kacey is the first country artist to be invited to perform for GLAAD when there have been far more out spoken LGBT welcoming country artists… In the 90’s Garth Brooks was singing “We Shall Be Free” the lyrics “When we’re free to love anyone we choose” were for his sister who was his Bassist on tour… she was also an out and proud lesbian whom Garth was very vocally proud of and defended her and his decision to continue to include her in his tours.
Then you have the Uber progressives The Dixie Chicks who again not only supported marriage equality but also spoke out about bulling, teen suicide as well as denounced the Bush administration!
How about having two recent Country stars who came out last month perform. Both Ty Herndon and/or Billy Gilman who came out on the same day last year… We also have Justin Ulty and Steve Grand
