Eh. Having done some (admittedly very basic) research in quantum machine simulations, his explanation wasn’t actually that great. The way quantum machines actually work is kind of different – what he was talking about was a more simplified version that is used to explain things to layman. Sort of like the quantum computing equivalent of describing the internet as a bunch of tubes.
With that said, you don’t need to understand quantum computing in order to be a good leader. What you do need is the humility to listen to experts and express concern over making the right decisions. I would much prefer a leader who listens quietly to a smart scientist and then relays that to the press than a figure like Trump who doesn’t think he needs to listen to anybody. So there’s the obvious fact that Trudeau seems brighter than average (though not as smart as some people think) and Trump is a downright moron. But what’s more significant is that Trudeau clearly has the right temperament to lead, and I think that’s more important than intelligence. Call it social intelligence if you want to.
Also, apparently he has an amazing butt.

While he’s more intelligent than most world leaders today he doesn’t flaunt it and is smart enough to surround himself with professionals that do know what they are doing. Not to mention that he clearly doesn’t just talk the talk but walks the walk when it comes to equality and diversity. After almost ten years of the last fascist we had in power, Trudeau is our breath of fresh air and one that I’ll personally endeavour to maintain as long as possible.

No, people did not “vote for him because of his looks”.
Unlike the USA, in Canada you don’t actually vote for the leader of the country, but for the party itself. You vote for the party member in your district/county.
The party that has the most representatives elected becomes the main governing party, the 2nd in line becomes the “official opposition”, and then the 3rd and 4th (and 5th if such is the case) take on minority positions.
Since Canadians do not actually vote for the leader him/herself, if a Prime Minister were to retire or pass away during their tenure, the governing party would select a replacement from within its ranks or simply give the position to the acting deputy prime minister. There would not be a new election until the actual mandate is up. There is also no automatic nor strict line of succession for a replacement.
And those on this blog who are calling him pretty but dumb, or saying that Canadians don’t like him, are full of **it.
This is a Prime minster who selected people with actual experience in the requisite fields to be ministers. An actual astronaut is minister of transport, a physically handicapped person is minister for sports and disabilities. Other ministers include actual scientists, teachers, athletes, military personnel, specialists in the fields they are representing.
This is also the first Prime Minister to have set up a caucus that is truly representative of the gender distribution of the nation.
Is Trudeau perfect? Nope (well, except that a$$).
How does he fair when compared to previous Prime Minsters? INFINITELY better.
Compared to Trump? In French we say “la question ne se pose même pas!”

But even more importantly time and time again I notice when a person is called upon to explain and support their comment…silence. Until the next dumb thing they want to say. Not only are Trump’s national ratings at record lows, but he also unpopular worldwide (with Israel being the most notable exception). It says a lot when his major supporters are people with no college degree — in other words, people without the intellectual tools to evaluate Trump’s lies.
Plus, he is the only American president that our greatest ally, Britain, tried to ban from entering the country. TWICE. Not even George Washington was banned after the War of Independence. They are still debating whether to invite him for a state visit. And has any other Western leader been rebuked by the leaders of Britain, France and Germany? Finally, has any Western leader been so overwhelmingly embarrassed at the UN, as Trump was in the Jerusalem vote? Not one influential country supported us, and most condemned the move. Not abstain, but condemned. And here’s a little side note: Despite Nikki Haley’s claim that she was “representing the will of the American people,” the only relevant poll showed that Americans were against the move, 2-to-1. And so the Trump lies continue…

You may not “speak up,” as you say, but aggregated polls show that, even accounting for people like you, he is the most unpopular president at this stage in a president’s first term in modern history. He is deeply unpopular. I know you like him. I know you hate “socialism.” Clearly you dislike Democrats. I get it. Just so you know, the “blue states,” which overwhelmingly supported Clinton, are full of people who “work” and contribute 60% to the US’s GDP. You mention the 48%, but really, if you’re going to quote stats, at least be fair to get them correct. The Blue states also are net subsidizers of the Red-Trump states. So if you want to talk about people working and who’s contributing more, let’s be realistic.
The fact remains that Trump is a deluded con man, and the Republican Party, which practices socialism for billionaires, is in serious trouble. I liken the situation now to the glee that Republicans I knew felt when George W. Bush took office in 2001. Even before he slipped into office, I said, whatever you may think about his *personality* vs. Gore’s, Bush is going to be a disaster, because it was clear he didn’t know what he was talking about in the campaign, it was clear he was willing to unleash homophobes to gain power, it was clear he had no grasp of economics or governance, and it was clear that he was surrounded by extreme ideologues. Most did not vote for Obama, but they also were sorry, even if for a moment, for supporting Bush. Trump actually is proving to be more radioactive than Bush ever was.

I can no longer connect to the Dems, and I once held several important positions in my state’s Democrat Party hierarchy and was a close staff assistant to the Democrat Governor here many years ago. I guess as a Veteran, I’m more concerned with the unraveling of America than I am with party politics.
