Tonight: Log Cab Republicans Reward Sen. Cornyn For Blocking DADT Repeal Vote

Tonight is the Log Cabin Republicans’ National Dinner fundraising gala, hosted by Tucker Carlson, which will welcome Texas Republican Sen. John Cornyn. Yes, he’s the chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee who yesterday voted against cloture to bring the Defense Department’s spending bill (and a DADT repeal) to a floor vote. For being such a wonderful hero for LGBT rights, LCR — which two weeks ago succeeded in getting a federal judge to rule DADT unconstitutional — will bestow Cornyn with the Barry Goldwater Award, which “recognizes leaders in the Republican Party who have served their nation with distinction in the model of the late Senator Barry Goldwater.”

Rep. Pete Sessions was also set to attend and receive the award, but has reportedly just pulled out “because of a House Republican caucus meeting that evening.”

Republican Reps. Judy Biggert, Anh ‘Joseph’ Cao, Charles Djou, and Ileana Ros-Lehtinen will also receive awards for being “steadfast supporters of the fight for equal rights.”

The entire evening “will honor [LCR’s] allies in its fight to create a more inclusive Republican Party.” And this is why you should never believe press releases.

Hey LCR you bunch of F’in morons – on behalf of those who live in Texas and are represented by this turd of a Senator (in addition to Queen Kay Bailey) — with his 0 % voting record.

You are both a joke. You can have each other. Shame on you.

Maybe it was sort of like Obama’s Nobel prize. Kind of a poke in the right direction rather than payment for services rendered, as it were.

I guess the joke’s on the LCRs, then.

“in the model of the late Senator Barry GoldwaterRead”

That’s hilarious, because Goldwater was actually IN FAVOR of gays serving in the military.

Sooooooo, I guess this means that the NAACP will be inviting David Duke to their next dinner as a reward for not using the “N” word in the last week?

Interesting, about the time lots of folks lived in log cabins the Black community coined the term Uncle Tom for those Blacks who betrayed the Blacks struggle while fighting for their freedoms……..

      I propose a new moniker:
The Uncle Toms Log Cabin Repugnaticans……..

@Jen: Your French is more than excused……. :p

      To answer your question:

Ils sont fucking idiots qui ressentent le besoin de soutenir ceux qui veulent nier Gays les mêmes droits que tous les Américains d’autres

Even if ya don’t speak it, I think ya can get the drift……

Tucker Carlson? Please someone tell me that he’s NOT a member of our communites!

Sen. John Cornyn has as much in common with Barry Goldwater as Barney the dinosaur has with Barney Frank. What rational person would put Cornyn up for an award, even for “strategic purposes”? Not likely that Corny’s going to vote any differently based on a meanin.gless award.

@PlaysWell: wow, I didn’t know you knew French! If you used a translator online, it’s pretty darn good. “Tous les autres Américains” is a little less awkward, but you’re VERY close. [Remember I speak French with my “potential” father-in-law-to-be, and with the Swiss BF]. It always makes my brain hurt after three hours, but we’re seriously thinking of moving to Montréal in a few years after finishing school here, & we both passed the language test. Ya never know, though.
