The Maryland Marriage Alliance may be short on a lot of things – credibility and a sense of shame immediately come to mind – but balls is not one of them. How else can one explain accusing First Lady Michelle Obama of being ignorant of her own beliefs while twisting the words from her much-praised Democratic National Convention speech?
The ad (via Good As You) quotes the FLOTUS as saying, “You see, at the end of the day, my most important title is still ‘mom-in-chief,'” before urging viewers to vote against Question 6 to “ensure that all children have a mom-in-chief and a dad-in-chief.”
However, just seconds before in that very same DNC speech, MObama said “if proud Americans can be who they are and boldly stand at the altar with who they love…then surely, surely we can give everyone in this country a fair chance at that great American Dream.”
It’s a fairly low and underhanded maneuver by the Maryland Marriage Alliance, but as Care2 Make a Difference points out, it’s not terribly surprising:
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
The Maryland Marriage Alliance has been heavily criticized for its half-truths and, indeed, its escalating rhetoric against gay people.
Indeed, one speaker at a Maryland Marriage Alliance event has been caught on (the group’s own) film saying, free of censure, “If we don’t vote against it [Question 6], then we are approving of these things that are worthy of death!”
