So, what does First Lady Michelle Obama think about same-sex marriage? Considering Vice-President Joe Biden and her own husband have voiced full-fledged support for marriage equality, it’s not surprising that Michelle does also. Still, it’s beyond wonderful to hear her vocalize it nationally.
In a video released yesterday where the First Lady answers questions from her Twitter (@MichelleObama), she responded to one citizen’s request, “Please tell us about your family discussions about marriage equality and thank President Obama for his support!”
Michelle responses at the 5:20 mark:
“It really comes down to the values of fairness and equality that we want to pass down to our girls. I mean, these are basic values that kids learn at a very young age and that we encourage them to apply in all areas of their lives. And in a country where we teach our children that everyone is equal under the law, discriminating against same-sex couples just isn’t right.”
Like a loved one whom we know values and appreciates us without it being said, it’s still extremely comforting to hear it verbalized. Brava, Michelle!
Sohobod
The Queen of American! it’s not surprising that Michelle and Liz II got on so well. Michelle had private meeting with the Q at Buckingham Palace when she made a brief low-key visit to London, with her daughters. According to the president, the Queen took the girls out on a carriage ride around the grounds.
gym rat
Obama has “voiced full-fledged support for marriage equality”? Hm, guess I missed that one. Last I heard, he hadn’t committed himself one way or another.
truthzone333
lol, please do tell us how comfortable that rock was which you’ve apparently been living
under for the past two weeks…or are you high?
Shannon1981
@gym rat: Where have you been? One google should tell you that he said he thinks it is important for him to go ahead and affirm that he does believe that same sex couple should be able to get married.
Said it to Robin Roberts after Joe Biden’ gaffe.
Marcel
Michelle Obama is one cool lady. She exudes class and intelligence.
Tyler
Obama does not support same gender marriage at all. He is just pretending to since he wants our money, and our votes. He’s ALL talk and no action.
Drew
Gym Rat-Barry has said how he thinks that it’s up to states to decide if they want same gender marriage or not. He’s not actually in support of same gender marriage on the federal/national level and he never has been. Even as a candidate and as President with his “Gawd’s in da mix!!!” speech he showed how like ALL politicians he’ll say one thing and do another and lie.
Polyboy
It took only 8 posts.
Mike
At this point, words mean nothing – and action means EVERYTHING. Rhetoric has become hollow sound-bytes and nothing more, and standing-up for what is right has become too revolutionary for any politician including Obama who can yammer on about how he’s all for LGBT rights, our equality, and same gender marriage but he’s actually not.
Misty
@Tyler: Is that why he declared section 3 of DOMA unconstitutional and advocated for it’s repeal? seriously. WHat is with you guys. And Mike. Look at the accomplishments of this administration. THere are plenty to tell you where he is going. Jesus. This extra suspicion makes me suspicious.
tjr101
Wow, the gay Republican racists are out in force today!
Polyboy
Suspicious, it’s pretty damn obvious. There are quislings afoot.
Honey
@Mrs. Patrick Campbell: Aunt Jemima?? who is she? I’ve never heard of her?
@Polyboy: You act as though you’re suprised.
James
Pandering for gay dollar$. Where was she six months ago or 3 years ago?
Denise
I agree James she just wants money and wants LGBT people to vote for her “All promises and talk but no real action” husband who does not support same gender marriage but pretends to just because of the upcoming election.
If Barry and Michelle actually cared about LGBT people and our rights they would have spoken out a long time ago.
Steve
All you anti-Obama homos are looking for anyr eason not to vote for an African-American. How disgusting. If McCain were pres, where would DADT, DOMA, etc be?
LMAO!
Steve is playing the race card. Just because someone’s LGBT or hetero and doesn’t like Obama it does not mean that they are ra_cist or dislike black people, African Americans, or mixed race people like Obama.
One of my best friends who I’ve known for decades is black and gay. He, like myself, did vote for Obama but like me he is NOT happy with Obama, how spend crazy Obama and his administration are (although all politicians are this way sadly), and how the economy is shit so he’s not going to vote for him again.
Brandon
Steve, Obama is technically African-American since his father was African but he’s not black since he has a white mother and Obama is biracial or mixed race.
It’s ra cist and ignorant to call Obama “Black” when he’s mixed race or biracial. It’s also ignorant and ra cist to call him “White” since he’s mixed race or biracial. Obama only calls himself “black” to try to win votes from actual blacks like myself. The media has also branded him as being “black” even though Obama is biracial/mixed race.
I am a gay black man and I actually am black since both of my parents are black and so are all of my relatives.
I’m not happy with Obama. Am I going to vote for Romney? No. I will vote for the green party.
Whatever
Obama is going to be a 1 term president.
Halston
@Brandon: What most of what you say is true, however as a multi racial person who identifies as black I think it is presumptuous of you to say he identifies as black just to win the black vote and not because that is the segment of the population that he relates to when it comes to race and identity. Also, he looks like a black man to most people if he were not famous and he did not tell people he had a white parent most people would assume he was black. If he said he identified as bi racial I would respect that or anyone else for that matter but if he says he is black than he is black and so am I.
Carlos
Obama is not black. He’s biracial and you can easily tell this by looking at him.
I am biracial and there’s nothing wrong with being two or more races. I have a friend that’s Italian, Spanish, Puerto Rican, and Mexican.
I am what’s called Mestizo since I am part Spanish (with an ancestry from Spain) and part Mexican Indian.
I have visited Brasil and there they would consider Barack not to be either black or white but to be Mulatto.
Halston
And to everyone else I personally believe that it does not matter who we vote for, because there are too many lobbyist, bankers, and self serving politicians in Washington. Even if someone is going to really fight for the people on economic and social issues there are way to many obstacles in the way. I think nothing will change until we as a country and as a people change and really start holding politicians accountable and demand that the lobbyist and bankers get thrown out of Washington. We also need to demand real news and turn off the Bill O’Rielys, Limbaughs, Maddows, and Coopers, of the world and have news not entertainment. Change starts with us gay, straight, atheist, and Christian we have to make more of an effort to fight for this country and not put our hopes in a one man to save us. We have to start cringe about real issues and not be side tracked by celebrity gossip or the newest toy they tell us we need to buy. We basically need to wake up and cut the puppet strings.
Halston
@Carlos: You think that but most people would perceive him as black. I know as a black person that there are full blooded black American people who look like Obama.
Halston
@Carlos: And I don’t think anyone said there is anything wrong with being more than one race. And this is not Brazil. But I do have a question for you how many non colored people live in the favalas (I think I misspelled that) or as we call them the ghettos of Brazil?
Carlos
I am not from Brasil I just have been to Brasil on vacation. All types of people live in Favelas there. I have Brasilian friends who are white who grew up in a favela.
darkorient
I just love the woman!
Halston
@Carlos: I didn’t ask if there were any. I asked how many. And I never said you were from Brazil. Read what I wrote. There are whites that live in the hood here in America but there are not a lot. Just like there isn’t in Brazil. My point is is that when multi racial topics come up every now and then someone throws Brazil up into the conversation as if Brazil is the perfect example of racial equality and it is not.
UsualPlayers
As a general rule, in the U.S., if you look black you are. Unless you are in NYC where its divided into more classifications. Besides, its not even the point. The only reason people are bringing this up is that they can’t defend the absurd comments about his support, which has been weak but has grown stronger, without changing the subject.
The truth is it took a lot of gay activists to push him to be where he is, but the truth is also that those activists could not have moved a Republican like Romney, who is back peddling to keep the conservative base vote. There’s really no choice on the gay issues as far as the two parties right now. The GOP has ceded the moral high ground of personal freedom to the Democrats.
If any Republican were remotely capable of anything but partisan rancor, they would admit it. Is Obama perfect? No. he was slow to move to this position. But to whine constantly about how he’s not perfect when he’s quantums better than the GOP seems false.
We need to keep the pressure on Obama until there is full equality. He has certainly shown us that we can pressure him and that he will do the right thing under that pressure, unlike the GOP which will fire gays from their staff, say we shouldn’t adopt, pass anti-gay amendments, bankroll the pro-DOMA side, etc. Really again, there’s no comparison unless one is completely delusional.
Now, if you want to argue other issues- like economics- well again- what difference is there between Obama and teh GOP except each time the president moves more right,t he GOP moves more right so we are in the crazy territory of Hoover, etc right now.
Belize
@Tyler: “…and our votes.”
Which he would’ve gotten without blatantly supporting same-sex marriage. Who will you vote for Romney? LOL.
Belize
@Steve: To be really honest with you, I’m sitting on the fence with McCain. He has never voiced support for gay marriage but as a Republican, McCain is actually quite liberal. Romney, however, is a stick on a tar pit.
UsualPlayers
Only in a completely deluded version of reality is McCain Liberal.
There used to be Liberal Republicans, but there are no Liberal Republicans in the GOP anymore. those people died out decades ago or were thrown out. This was back in the day when parties were more diverse ideologically than they are now. That’s not to say the Democrats are the left either. By any stretch of the imagination, they are a center RIGHT party on economic issues. Again, anyone saying different has no idea what they are talking about politically and should stop embarassing themselves like most Americans do on the issue.
In short, Belize is just as stupid as every other American these days about their own political system. Whether you vote Democrat or Republican you are getting a Neoliberal. If you don’t know what that word means, you don’t understand your own political system.
Halston
@UsualPlayers: I agree on the gay social aspect of what you said. I personally feel that we should throw everybody out of office and start over. But, given the choice that we have on gay rights I don’t understand how people can be so upset with Obama. I wonder if they realize that if Romney gets into office there is a huge possibility that he will reverse everything that has been accomplished. And, we will go back to the days of DADT and back to defending DOMA and maybe even a federal ban against gay marriage.
UsualPlayers
Oh, and on social issues, its not even close. The GOP is far right as in must placate the christian conservative base which is a large part of their strong hold in DC (without it they would lose the South). In short, the GOP will move when the rest o th country already supports an issue. You can’t even get these fuckers to support ENDA with 70 percent of public support. So its completely delusional to describe them- including McCain who was against DADT repeal- as “Liberal’
The problem with labels is they don’t mean shit anymore. Most people onlien especially just throw them out not knowing what the fuck (Belize for example) they are talking about.
Meanwhile, the Democrats are centrist on social issues. They can be moved, but it takes work.
UsualPlayers
DADT repeal by the way also had something like 70 percent support. Just to underscore how fucking stupid some gay people are on gay issues and politicians, McCain was against Dadt repeal even with 70 percent suppot. How far to the right do you have to be to afraid of supporting something with 70 percent support? You are in the far, far right territory with that kind of opinion.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/12/18/john-mccain-dadt-repeal-_n_798726.html
UsualPlayers
@Halston: Well, but you are making the lesser evil argument, which I know longer by into. Its made things progressively worse over the last 40 years. Every election cycle some Democrat says ‘vote for me because I am better than the GOP.” Meanwhile they get in office and they and the GOP get to gether to act as Neoliberals. That’s why when they both whine about a Bain i don’t even listen. Both parties are sucking money from Bain in compain donations. that’s why that mayor of Newark said what he said. He knows who is buttering his bread whether Obama with his faux message on the issue wins or loses.
Dadt is not going to be re-instated. I do agree that with the GOp there is little chance of moving forward on gay issues. they moved forward because the Democrats see us as a key constituency. We vote something like 70 percent for Democrats to 28 percent for the GOP. I am in that 2 percent that’s ready to jump to none of the above. I do agree, however, that we have a better shot of using Obama than Romney on gay rights. its just not a close call. Obama is not defending DOMA. Romney wold. Obama can be pressured into an executive ENDA, but Romney can’t. Romney would likely revive the anti gay federal amendment to appeal to his base because they know they are losing this issue slowing demographically and politically in the public so they are trying to push allt his shit now why they can still get it through. When they are honest, most social conservatives even admit to them if you can stand reading their bullshit. They will say- we know we are losing this battle and that in 10 or 20 or 30 years, we will lose it poltically. So they are trying to pass laws that they know that will be hard to repeal like DADT long after the public support repeal of such laws. They are using the intertia of the political system to enact laws now that later they know will be harder to undo.
Romey would helpt hem with that. obama wouldn’t. So on the gay right issues, Obama wins. Its a simple calculus.
Tackle
Some of these comments are really silly. People saying that Obama is not really Black when Obama has said many many times that he considers himself Black and he even put Black on his census form. Life is very short, who are any of these posters to tell someone what they are ethnically?? And as far as people talking about mixters and being biracial, that applies to all of us. Espically Black people. EVERYONE is mixed. There are just different degrees of mixter. I have seen Blacks with two Black parents with children that look like Obama. Obama dosen’t look any more non-black then Chris Brown and he has two Black parents. This is America, and the fact is, if you look Black, or has whats become known as a Black look, you will be treated, viewed, responded to as being Black. If Obama were to filp out tomorrow, and took a gun and shot up a few people. I bet to all thoes saying he’s not really Black, he’ll be blacker then the Ace of Spade.
Cam
Do you notice all the Log Cabiners have changed their tactics?
They used to come on screaming that Obama and Romney or McCains views on marriage were no different.
That won’t work anymore, and so now, they don’t mention the GOP, but they try to attack Obama by saying things like “Oh, he’s just pretending to get our money” or “Oh, words mean nothing, it’s actions that count.”
You guys really need to rethink, if you have to hide your motives and obfuscate then your position most likely isn’t valid.
You want actions?
1. Signed the DADT repeal which Romney spoke out against.
2. Instructed the DOJ to stop defending DOMA in court, which the GOP has found private attorneys to keep up the fight.
Oh and words mean nothing? Since Obama spoke out on gay marriage, black support for a marriage equality law in Maryland has jumped from below 50% to 59%.
So nice try trolls. Your advocacy for people that seek to hurt us won’t be forgotten.
Ronbo
I had hope that we’d be at this point on day #1 after voting for President Obama. He is 1.000 days late and my $$$ short.
Obama is clearly working with the powers that be – from continuing wars, starting new ones, assassinating individuals, suspending habeus corpus to signing Bush tax cut extensions for the ubber rich.
I’m glad to see that some in the gay community aren’t suckered by this state’s rights advocate (which would have prevented his parents marriage and outlawed their love).
However, I am proud that Mrs. Obama supports our equality and rights. My hat is off to Mrs. Obama.
But the President has only done ONE THING to actually support us. He continues to deny gays entry into the USA when they are legally married. One action does not undo 29,778 actions to the contrary.
Baron von Munchkin
@Halston: You, sir, are the smartest guy in the room. Thank you for bringing a fresh breath of common sense to an otherwise contentious message board.
@Cam: Wow, black support for gay marriage in Maryland has jumped a whole 9%!?! Geez, I’m surprised they haven’t thrown a parade for us. (perhaps you should hold your enthusiasm for a truly significant leap in numbers)
Evil
No matter what, some on here will never miss an oppprtunity to take a shit on progress. I’m gay and I find it hard to supports gay issues at times. I can only imagine how some non-gays feel.
Gums
@Cam: You seem to continuously (and conveniently) forget that it was Bill Clinton who imposed DOMA, and yet you regularly imply it was GOP-imposed. Sorry, but facts are facts.
PatRiot
Is this the same Michelle Obama who said she wasn’t proud of her country until she was 44 years old? The same Michelle Obama who never spoke out in favor of gay rights until this year when her husband realized he desperately needs our money and our votes? The same Michelle Obama who wants to dictate how the country eats, while claiming that cheeseburgers and french fries are her favorite foods? The same one with the “Do as I say, not as I do” mantra?
I think I get the message now. Hypocrisy is the status quo from this White House. Got it.
UsualPlayers
@Ronbo: Except your arguments have zero to do with the choices at the top right now. I agree about the anti war stuff and the reasons not to like Obama. Except I disagree with the manipulation of facts to protend like that’s the reasons why Others are against Obama. Almost everyone doing so is a conservative who wants to do the same or worse than obama once htey are in office. Its the same evil. Just becuase you have agenda doesn’t mean you get to ignore that fact. Its also dishonest to ignore the fact that Obama hasn’t just said he’s for marriage equality at state level. DOMA repeal is not a state issue. Its one of federal law as well.
UsualPlayers
By the way, I really don’t like being in the position of defending Obama. I am not a fan for many reasons of him. But the need to just make shit up irks me.
UsualPlayers
@Baron von Munchkin: Are you nuts? Well, even if you aren’t, you lie by omission. it 59 percent. So, just saying its 9 percent increase is a lie by omission since that’s higher than the general public.
59 percent support on almost every issue in the US under politics is as high as you usual get. It takes decades to get better than that. For example from the 1960s, it took until the mid to late 1990s to get the American public to support innterracial marriage by a majority.
Some of you again are so deluded as to be disturbing.
UsualPlayers
@PatRiot: A single Google search would indicate you are lying about when Michelle Obama first advocated for gay marriage.
Lance
Obama isn’t black he’s mulatto, mixed race, or biracial.
Baron von Munchkin
@UsualPlayers: If you look back and read what I said, it was a response to Cam’s post (#36) that black support has risen from 50 % to 59%. I must say, though, you certainly do know how to get hysterical over some things, don’t you?
Halston
@Lance: I’m biracial (technically tri racial) but I am still black and only identify with black culture.
Rockery
@Brandon:
Please don’t be stupid, not saying it’s right, but a lot of black/white mixed people are called black due to society and therefore call themselves black. What did people say when Halle Berry won the Oscar? Alicia Keys? It’s not to gain votes…
Rockery
@LMAO!:
LOL at your fictitious friend!
tjr101
@Lance: You’re clearly a dumbass! I’m biracial myself, but if you looked at me you wouldn’t know the difference.
@PatRiot: You homocons love using the right-wing Faux news talking points don’t you? I’m surprised you didn’t throw in the same old ” they sat in Jeremiah Wright anti American church” talking points as well.
UsualPlayers
@Baron von Munchkin: telling me who it was in response to doesn’t make you any less a bullshit artist. its the typical truthiness of someone with an agenda rather than someone trying to honestly assess the situation. A 9 point raise even under your terms is a major shift by any stretch of politics. Only a complete idiot like you would think you are making a rebuttal with such a comment.
Rex
I am so sick and tired of news outlets and correspondents referring to Barack Obama as ‘black’ or African-American. It is completely irresponsible to refer to him this way. The thing that I find funny is that it’s being hailed as a historic triumph by US media sources — the first black president in the history of the United States — and Barack Obama isn’t black. His mother was white!!!! He is bi-racial/mixed race! It’s ridiculous to call Barack Obama black when he’s only half black, but it’s a common occurrence in the US where racial quotas have been instituted over the years. The truth is that he’s no more black than he is white.
In doing research on whether Barack Obama is black or white, I ran across a article that read, in Africa he is considered white. I do not see America as having a black president. We have a half white president/mixed race president.
As for he and the first lady’s claims of how they support LGBT people and same gender marriage they don’t really support same gender marriage but they just will claim that they do and pretend to just to get LGBT people’s money and our votes. They are politicians first and foremost people and ALL politicians lie even the Obamas.
LMAO!
Rockery-Laugh all you want the joke’s on you. My friend isn’t made up I’ve known him for decades. He’s not a Log Cabin republican or Conservative politically at all. He’s a moderate and as a GBM is unhappy with Obama as a lot of Americans are including other LGBT people.
Scott
Halston you’re an idiot. There are TONS of white people who live in “The hood”, slums, or low income areas of both large cities and small towns.
Halston
@Scott: No, you are the idiot and a fool. You want to correct something I said than correct it-calling me names because I made a point you don’t like when you don’t even know me is just damn foolish and immature. Secondly, there are white people everywhere from Topeka, Kansas to Harlem in NYC. When you say TONS of white people in the hood compared to black and brown peopele there numbers are miniscule. There are Tons of white people in jail, but again when copared to black and brown people the numbers are miniscule.
Halston
@Scott: Meant “compared” in last sentence.
Halston
@Rex: And I am no more white…than I am Hispanic…or Black. But culturally I identify as a Black person. Obama identifies as Black so people are going to refer to him as Black. There are bi racial people who identify as one race even though they know that they have another parent who is another race. And, there are people who identify as both. You also have to consider what a person sees when he looks in the mirror. Some people look at me and think that I am mixed, some people look at me and thik that I am 100% Hispanic, Some people think (depends on how long my hair and beard is cut) think I am Middle Eastern, And to others and myself when I look in the mirror I see a light skinned black man staring back at me.
Phil
Halston that’s nice that you’re delusional that you think that you’re black when you’re biracial or technically triracial. I agree that there are a lot of white people in low income areas such as ghettos, slums, etc. even in America.
Not this shit again
Only an idiot who practices magical thinking would consider Obama to be “Black” when he’s biracial and had a white mother. Of course the people who are considering him to be “black” are r acist, negrocentric, and delusional.
Ms.Peachez
@Not this shit again: Well I guess obama is a r acist, negrocentric and delusional because he identifies as a “black man” and so the fuck what if he does? Who are LGBT people to tell this man what race HE can claim and more importantly how is this related to the article about our wonderful First Lady? Every time there is an article about a black person, race is always the main focus in the comment section? So old, so tired, and oh so tacky.
True
Yes it’s true that Barry is r acist, negrocentric, and not black. He’s mixed race/biracial. Then again his wife Michelle is ra cist. When Michelle Obama attended Princeton University, she wrote a thesis that was ra cist against white people, and against biracial or mixed race people like Barry.
Michelle is not just a ra cist but she’s a separatist too and a terrible person to have in the White House.
Some snippets from her thesis ..
“By actually working with the Black lower class or within their communities as a result of their ideologies, a separationist may better understand the desperation of their situation and feel more hopeless about a resolution as opposed to an integrationist who is ignorant to their plight”.
She mourns that she will face further integration and/or assimilation into a white cultural and social structure that will only allow me to remain on the periphery of society; never becoming a full participant”.
Nina Simone
I wrote a song about mulattos like Obama and angry black women like Michelle!
I’m awfully bitter these days
What do they call me?
My name is PEACHES!
Ms. Peachez
@True: Again how is that related to the above article. If you are going to sling shit at the wall why not make it relate to the article at hand?
@Nina Simone: your comment was a failure and it Peachez with a Z. Get it right next time.
Nina Simone
I’m surprised you can even spell Ms.Peachez. FYI I was not writing about you but about a song I wrote.

I have become very disenchanted with President Barack Obama even though I voted for him in 2008.
1. He did not even propose the public option healthcare system: he had campaigned on that system, promising to propose it. (Wikipedia: ”President Barack Obama promoted the idea of the public option while running for election.[3] After becoming President, Obama downplayed the need for a public health insurance option including calling it a “sliver” of health care reform,[4] but had not given up pursuing the idea before the health care reform was passed.[5] The preceding statement is disputed by evidence that the Obama administration had agreed to drop the public option from the final plan in the summer of 2009[6] in a back room deal with representatives of the for-profit hospital lobby[7]“)
2. He has appointed countless Wall Streeters to his top economic team, failing to appoint labor voices like Robert Reich.
3. He has bailed out Wall Street instead of Main Street: remember TARP? And then the banks dispensed $6 billion in bonuses in that year to its executives.
4. He failed to attack the mortgage crisis, leaving an elephant still in our “room”, with one-third of home mortgages now underwater.
5. He failed to veto the National Defense Authorization Act, doing away with habeous corpus, allowing the government to arrest and detain indefinitely without a trial or hearing.
6. He agreed to an extension of the Bush tax cuts for the rich, and on top of that, he agreed to an egregious reduction of the estate taxes on the rich, exempting as much as $10 million from any estate taxes and lowering the estate tax rate down to a ridiculous rate of 35%, when our country has a $15 trillion debt. That alone saved the Walton heirs $17 billion in taxes.
7. He has failed to indict and imprison any of those banksters involved in all of that fraud on Wall Street from the subprime mortgage, including robo-signing, and selling shit-backed mortgage securities known to be worthless.
8. He appointed Jeffrey Immelt to head his Jobs Council when GE has been saying “China, China, China,” and shipping all jobs overseas while closing plants here in the US.
9. President Obama is now considering and proposing to lower the corporate tax rate to 26%, when corporations are not only at a low-time rate of paying taxes but getting billions in tax subsidies from our government and opening up offices on the 19th floor of one building on the Cayman Islands to avoid taxes altogether.
10. President Obama spoke in favor of PIPA and SOPA, when the internet is the last vestige of free speech and the availability of free information to the general public.
11. There were no indictments by President Obama of all the contractor fraud reported on by Bernie Sanders and Ron Paul in a Congressional Report released over a year ago. Whenever the rich and big corporations are caught in fraud, Eric Holder adopts a policy of “looking forward”, instead of holding them accountable.
12. President Obama agreed to the “grand bargain” (thank, God, Boehner did not accept it) to cut over $2 trillion in spending, including social security, medicare, medicaid, and other social safety-net programs merely in return for hypothetical “revenue increases” of $800 billion relying on “dynamic scoring”.
13. President Obama has done nothing to level the trade treaties, where corporations are shipping labor to Cambodia (22.5 cents per hour), China, Philippines, etc., where labor is paid 25 cents per hour. This is exporting slavery to other countries. Where is the level playing field for Americans?
14. President Obama in 2009 only proposed $140 billion in infrastructure spending when Paul Krugman and other economists predicted that $1.5 trillion was needed for our economy to recover. And last year only proposed a paltry $108 billion in infrastructure spending.
15. President Obama praised the recent JOBS Act, which allows corporations to go public and raise capital without audited financial information in their public presentations for the first five years, allowing them to present fictitious numbers and defraud investors?
16. President Obama has failed to propose the return of Glass-Steagall, separating commercial and investment banking, which will soon plunge us back into another mega-bailout of Wall Street.
17. President Obama has failed to propose the break up of the big banks and corporations. What ever happened to the Sherman Anti-Trust Act?
18. President Obama touted a $25 billion robo-signing settlement when a trillion dollars of our pension and retirement funds were stolen.
19. While campaigning, President Obama promised to put on his walking shoes for labor, but failed to even show up in Wisconsin and walk the picket line against Governor Walker.
20. President Obama has not declared war on the Supreme Court, as President Roosevelt did, to oppose the corporate/rich posture of Scalia, Kennedy, Thomas, Alito, and Roberts. Why not take them on?
21. President Obama has arrested and raided more marijuana users in less than four years than George Bush did in eight years. Why is President Obama proposing cuts to social security, medicare, and medicaid while spending more on marijuana arrests and raids, especially when a majority of Americans are for legalization of pot and for the open sale of marijuana for medical use?
Time and time again President Obama did not fight the good fight for working Americans, who are losing their jobs, health insurance, homes, dignity, etc.
I am tired of the lame excuse of how we must vote for Obama because of the Supreme Court. How can anyone believe that Obama would not disappoint progressives on that issue after he failed to undertake a recess appointment of Elizabeth Warren to head the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, a position to which she was more entitled to direct than any other American?
I am done with President Obama.

Ms. Peachez
@Nina Simone: Child booooo you are a looooser. You gays got so many issuses, I’m not suprised that LBGT people haven’t gained full equality, dumb bitches like you make it hard for every one.. BTW your song sounds like pure garbage. Peace from Peachez
Nina Simone
Peachez-I’m all for LGBT equality unlike you. My song is called “Four women” try actually listening to it and learn instead of insulting me.
Halston
@Phil: It is not for you to tell me what I am. Just like it is not for straight people to tell you who you should love or have sex with.
Halston
A lot of you liken sexual identity to racial identity (racial civil rights to gay civil rights)but when you talk about race you want to define and put people into boxes but let someone put gay people into the boxes and they are defined as a bigot. Well, I’m beginning to re learn that it takes one to know one on Queerty. I’m like Ms. Peachez I’m not surprised that we don’t have equality from the ignorance that displayed by the comments on this site. If you are of mixed heritage that is fine and if you define yourself as multi racial well then I’m all for it. However, if you are mixed like me and you define yourself as black because that is what you feel or see than say it loud I’M BLACK AND I’M PROUD! Just like I’m GAY AND PROUD and I’m not going to let anyone define my sexuality by what is between my legs and not what is in my heart or head.
Halston
@Not this shit again: And I guess you are an abomination everytime you lay down with someone of the same sex because your genitals were meant for procreation and you can not naturally pro create with someone of the same sex and a penis was meant to be inserted into a vagina. So you must be just as delusional.
Halston
And alot of you are full of it…let me commit a crime (particularly a violent one) see how fast my biracial identity gets thrown to the wayside and how black I will become in the view of society and the news media.
Halston
Better yet if someone who is like me says something anti gay and it is reported on here see how very black they become and how there white heritage is totally forgotten about.
Shay
White people are so delusional!
Misty
People can argue about the race card all they want, but seeing all the extra mistrust and reluctance to give the guy credit for anything regarding gay rights but are so quick to give it to people like Biden for example, it tells me that this is not about policy. Maybe just like some in the black community ought to be open and honest about the homophobia in the community, I think many gay men ought to be honest about the level of racism that exists in their community as well, and the idea that black religious heteros are uniquely anti-gay has been playing a role in the absolute disrespect and trashing/irrational hate the guy gets on queerty for example over this.
Brandon
Shay, so are blacks, oops I meant mulattos/mulattas who want to pretend that they are “black” and not biracial or multi-racial. SMH
Cochran
Halston just because you’re mixed race that does not make you “black” just because you want to pretend that you are.
I agree with other people who are telling the truth about race that if you are biracial or mixed race you’re not a single race such as being “Black” or “White” but a combination of two or more races.
Mulata linda
I am from Brasil and I am proud to be mulata.
Here in Brasil we consider Obama not to be either black or white but Mulatto or morena clara (light Morena) o canela (of the colour of cinammon).
In Brazil there are “mixed-race” and mulattoes in the middle-class. Plenty of them. I’ve seen plenty of dark kids of my similar or close phenotype in Brazil at the *pools* of their parents home. Now, these cribs look better then many of the cribs and *yards* in my middle-class neighborhood.
Someone asked about race in Favelas (ghettos/slums) there are ALL types of people in favelas including people who are Brancos (White).
Russ
Americans in the United States have an oversimplified view of race, in that you are either “black” or “White” and can’t be varying mixtures or other types of races. Then again many Americans even gay Americans have the viewpoint that you are either “gay” or “heterosexual” and that bisexuality does not exist or is rare or other such nonsense they claim. Obama is regarded as a black man who happens to have a white mother rather than a white man who happens to have a black father.
Carlos
Misty brings up an excellent point.
I don’t actually believe that Biden is actually for same gender marriage either, or LGBT rights even though he’s Caucasian and despite him saying this first before Obama.
The Obamas and Biden are politicians they will lie and say anything to get your votes.
If both the Obamas and Biden actually supported same gender marriage and LGBT equality why didn’t they speak out years ago?
SEXXYJAMAICAN
My pearls are clutched so tight in absolute disgust from the amount of fuckery oozing from this train wreck of a comment section. How in the world did a vider clip from the classy Mrs.Obama turn into all this other mess? I agree with you Ms.Peachez, but WE tell people who or what THEY can identify as, what do THEY know about themselves that WE don’t already know about them? So it doesn’t matter what you claim you are or who you think you identify as, in the end WE get the final say and you’re just shit out of luck. LOL such foolishness.
Jerome
SEXXY-Mrs. Obama isn’t classy. She’s a ra cist, classist-all while milking her one term as first lady by going on very expensive vacations and buyin way too much feeding her shopping addiction in a time when most American citizens and people worldwide are out of work! She’s not for LGBT rights at all. IF she really was for LGBT rights or same gender marriage why didn’t she speak up years ago?
David
Mooch-elle is a fat hypocrite. She says that it’s bad to eat certain foods since they make you fat yet she chows down on ribs! If she is “thin” then you must like BIG Bootie! She is thin like a heifer is thin.
Oh OK
Obama isn’t black at all. He’s mixed race, biracial. Or are people actually editing out and revising the fact that his mother is Caucasian? Unless the one-drop rule still applies, our president-elect is not black at all.
Oh OK
To state the plain truth and call Obama biracial or mixed race would be to commit a politically correct sin in today´s America. Then again the Obamabots here lack common sense and are delusional when it comes to both Michelle, Obama’s actual races and how he’s neither black or white, and how both Obama and Biden don’t support LGBT rights at all.
What a surprise ...
Reasons why President Obama is the Worst President in History
1. He has loaded up every child in this nation with more debt than any President in history.
2. With his policies and the threat of more such policy, he has destroyed more wealth than any human being in history, which is always what happens when you set out to redistribute wealth: you end up destroying it.
3. He has brought us to the brink of the most massive tax increases in history and if we don’t elect enough Republicans in November to stop him that is exactly what we will get.
4. He has forced through legislation without a single republican vote that may well destroy the finest health care system in history when all we needed were some measures to control costs.
5. He has divided America along racial lines in destructive ways and he is doing so again by suing Arizona over its attempt to control the drug trade and human smuggling trade threatening its security.
6. He has failed to form a policy to adequately deal with the vicious Mexican drug cartels that are essentially running parts of that nation and becoming an increasing threat to ours.
7. He has traveled the world making apologies for America instead of defending its timeless and treasured ideals of freedom and peace for all nations of good will.
8. He has said there is nothing exceptional about America, something no other president has ever said and something which alone suggests he is a historically poor president.
9. He has hired people of strange and radical views to hold important federal posts in which they pursue more bad policy that no administration in history has ever pursued. Terrorist Bill Ayers is one of them.

ChicagoPete
Obama is a neo-con in disguise.
He and his wife are not really for LGBT rights and never have been.
Only come election time they’ll claim that they’ve always been for same gender marriage, and that they actually LOL respect us LGBT people and are for our equality when they are not.
Obama is nothing but a corrupt Chicago politician and a liar like all politicians are. He even supports rac!sim since he completely supported Rev. Jerimiah Wright who spewed hate speech and took his wife and daughters to this church that’s against Caucaians-I guess they didn’t care that Obama is biracial or half white?-and this church is against LGBT people.
haha
ummm
…all of this arguing amongst ourselves is irrelevant…for all those tearing down Obama for his gay rights policies LET ME ASK YOU THIS…who the fuck else are you gonna vote for? HAHAHAHAHA
ROMNEY? lol…you’ll get NO gay rights
GREEN PARTY lol…it’d be a waste of a vote that takes support away from the Democrats (I don’t care what ppl say; you can throw your vote away by voting for a candidate that doesn’t stand a chance in the general election…it’s practicality VS principle and practicality usually wins)
LIBERTARIAN lol
Jeff
Might as well vote for the Green party.
We were not meant to have a 2 party system and have Presidential elections that are basically rigged and trade off between one of two candidates every 4 years.
Jeff
Also the green party is completely for LGBT rights and equality and always has been unlike Obama and the dems or Republicans.
Alex
Sohobod, if you want a queen move to the UK. Moochelle is no queen and people who worship her or her husband as though they’re royalty are idiots.
STR8
This can not be an actual gay site.
@Alex: it is disrespectful to call a person anything other than their name. You are gay just imagine what straight people call you.
Matt
This b!tch is uppity! Alex is correct despite the way people want to treat Mr. and Mrs. Obama as though they’re royalty the United States does not have royalty at all.
The way O bows to other countries’ leaders just shows how he’s out of touch with reality and a pussy! He’s making the United States a laughingstock and appearing weak!
STR8
@Matt: “this b!tch is uppity” meaning she is black but she doesn’t act like a N****r. This only makes you sound like a r acist asshole.
Andrew
STR8-Get it right het! This is an LGBT-Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and Trans site.
Matt
str8 actually this has nothing to do with race and everything to do with how the Obamas lack tact, class, and the way it’s true that they’re corrupt Chicago politicians and liars. Then again Biden is also a highly corrupt politician from Delaware and he also loves to lie. Both Michelle and Barry have gone spend crazy at a time when the United States’ and world’s economy are in shambles just shows how little they know about basic economics. Barry and his Obamabots can blame Bush all they want but a lot of this was done directly under Obama as others who have posted have written about.
Brandon
LMAO idiot str8 playing the race card when there’s nothing r acist that’s been said at all in this thread.
STR8
@Andrew: So since I’m a “het” I can’t voice my opinion on a on a website? It seems from some of these comments on this rag that some of you have a bigotry problem. You and those gay people like you need to kick rocks, some of you are r acist as f**k and you will get called out for it. If you can’t take it then Oh well, suck on your thumb and shut the hell up. I have LGBT siblings and my support is with them. I don’t give a slight f**k about you or your struggles.
STR8
This whole comment section has been about race only a few stayed on the topic of the article. Like I said my support is with my siblings and people like them. So I do wish you gay people well.. And yes “hets” do visit site like this usually they only voice their opinions in the voting booth. Good Luck.
