It’s hard — nay, impossible — to get many conservative legislators to care about their own hypocrisy, but it’s still pretty sweet to watch them get publicly caught in a spiraling logic loop.
This week, Missouri State Rep. Ann Kelley got caught in a spiral of her own design when fellow Missouri Republican Phil Christofanelli gave her the most basic grilling over the anti-LGBTQ bill she introduced.
The “Don’t Say Gay”-style bill is intended to keep students from being taught anything about queer identities in classrooms. However, its wording targeting “instruction relating to sexual orientation or gender identity” also outlaws talk of heterosexuality from school curricula.
She somehow couldn’t comprehend that heterosexuality is, in fact, a sexuality:
How about we take this to the next level?

Kellyanne Conway just threw Donald Trump under the bus in favor of Ron “Don’t Say Gay” DeSantis
Et tu, Kellyanne?
In his line of questioning, openly gay State Rep. Christofanelli uses Martha Washington as an example. How would a history teacher discuss the first president’s wife without the instructing the implication of his sexuality?
Kelley asks, “Do you have language to make that better?”
“Lady, I didn’t introduce your bill,” he responds. “I didn’t write it; you wrote it. I’m asking what it means.”
When directly asked which sexualities should be excluded from Missouri classrooms, Kelley gives a roundabout answer about her “moral compass” that is “compared with the bible”.
“During your testimony, you said that you didn’t want teachers’ personal beliefs entering the classroom, but it seems a lot like your personal beliefs you would like to enter all Missouri classroom.”
That one sends her into a stuttering tailspin.

This back-and-forth was so singularly embarrassing for Kelley that it’s now enshrined in her Wikipedia page. The most recent sentence in her very short “career” section — which also describes her as an “avid conspiracy theorist and election denier” — is dedicated to her not understanding the application of her own legislation:
This isn’t the first bout of right-wing hypocrisy to go viral this week (and it’s only Wednesday!). A recent Jon Stewart interview skewered Oklahoma State Senator Nathan Dahm for his shoddy, ill-conceived reasoning behind his anti-drag bill.
If Kelley’s dressing down made you smile, Stewart’s microscope on Dahm will completely make your day:

People are calling Jon Stewart a PROPHET after the way he took down this knobhole. He’s a SVENGALI!
No. He simply used basic LOGIC. That’s it.
I watch reaction videos of today’s youth listening to George Carlin and they have the same response. I’ve actually heard them call George a PROPHET!
Both men were just using basic LOGIC to point out the utter and blatant HYPOCRICY of conservative “christians”.
Have we become so beaten down by decades of pure bullshit that, as soon as someone uses a simple tool like LOGIC, we consider them a f***ing GENIUS?

This right-wing crunt Kelley has analogues all over the US. They want to push this country back to the 19th century, and I don’t mean the positive parts of that century! They are extremist, they are dangerous, and they have been unleashed. LGBTQ people really have to start speaking up and out against these extremists. They want to turn this country into a giant version of Hungary or worse, and make Stonewall seem like Stonehenge!

These are the same people who said it was against their religion to allow black people into their businesses or to have black kids at their schools besides their white angels. They’ve just moved on to LGBTQ people because while people like Kelley are probably out having affairs or being inappropriate with minors, they yell and scream about how deviant the gay community is. Remember for these people on the RIGHT, an accusation is always an admission of guilt.

@gft77, you’re right, and don’t think they won’t try to bring back racial and ethnic segregation too! That new Tennessee House bill not only allows local officials to opt out/deny marriage licenses to same-sex couples, but also to interfaith and interracial ones! And they’ll claim their hateful actions are done in the name of Jesus Christ blah blah!

he sure showed her. pun very intended.

It’s amazing how stupid these people are. These same types of people were against integrated schools and decided that they were going to use their holy book, which they don’t even follow, and push it on everyone else. Cool, they think being gay is a sin. Matthew 5:28 Jesus tells us that by thinking about sin, you’re actually committing it. Thought crime. Good luck repenting all day, every day, and still being a sinner via that.

I bet the kids in our schools are more worried about dying from being shot by a classmate, than dying from Fentanyl. That is just my opinion.
