The sexual assault case brought against X-Men director Bryan Singer in a Hawaii federal court this week is bound to get even messier in the coming weeks, now that the Internet has dug up some pretty damning evidence of his alleged involvement in what has been described by an attorney as a “pedophile ring.”
The plaintiff in the case, Michael Egan, has left no detail to the imagination in his formal accusation. The 31-year-old claims he was one of many underage boys who were forced to engage in sexual acts with Singer and former chairman of Digital Entertainment Network Marc Collins-Rector during drug-fueled parties at a property in Encino, CA in 1999.
Egan, 17 at the time, claims he was lured into the alleged sex ring with the promise of landing a role in a Singer-directed film. His suit, the second sexual assault complaint brought against Singer, describes an incident during which his head was held underwater to perform fellatio on Singer, after which he was forcibly sodomized.
In the first sexual assault complaint brought against Singer, an extra from the film Apt Pupil accused the director in 1997 of forcing him to get naked and filming him in the shower. Singer denied the accusations and the case was later thrown out due to insufficient evidence.
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
At a press conference with his attorney Jeff Herman at the Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills yesterday afternoon, Egan further claimed he was flown to Hawaii on multiple occasions to be “anally raped” by Singer, along with a handful of other underage boys. Of the notorious parties held at the Encino estate, Egan said “I had drugs put in drinks, liquor poured down my throat. I was raped numerous times in that house by numerous individuals.”
“You were like a piece of meat to these people,” he continued. “They passed you around to each other. If I had to define that house, I’d call it evil.”
Egan claims he waited 15 years to file suit against Singer because the events caused him to spiral into alcoholism — he only recently became sober and sought therapy, during which he claims he remembered times he was allegedly raped by Singer.
Singer’s attorney, Marty Singer, claims the allegations are “completely without merit,” and that “Bryan will be vindicated in this absurd and defamatory lawsuit.” He told The Wrap, “It is obvious that this case was filed in an attempt to get publicity at the time when Bryan’s new movie is about to open in a few weeks.”
But Singer may have a tough time making the allegations go away, so to speak, after photos published back in 2009 were widely reported to have been taken at one of Singer’s alleged sex parties. As originally reported by a former Queerty Editor, there was an “after-after party which generally has a clothing-optional policy,” during which “Roland Emmerich and Bryan took a few select young men into the house for private casting sessions.”
Jordan Sargent of Defamer has dug up additional accounts of similar events, suggesting Singer’s appetite for twinks was pretty much an “open secret.”
The first from Michael K. of Dlisted:
I first heard about Bryan Singer’s “infamous” coke and twink pool parties when I was 18 and was at some party in Orange County that a bunch of dancers from Disneyland were at. One of the twink dancers bragged to me and my friends about how the weekend before he was at a party in L.A. that the director of Usual Suspects was at and the white twinks, coke and meth were falling from the sky. The twink dancer said that Bryan Singer and his fancy Hollywood friends always throw parties like that and when I asked him to take me to the next one, bitch said, “Uh, you’re not white, skinny and cute enough, though.” Leave it to a bitchy blond Disneyland dancer with white highlights and blue contacts to save me from gay Eyes Wide Shut Hell.
The second, an anonymous comment left in an IMDB forum in 2012:
Bryan goes through different boys each week. He promises them big movie roles and then just drops them. He and Roland Emmerich have infamous pool parties with literally hundreds of twinks, you can easily find the pics online. Bryan also certifiably has a thing for young twins. A pair live in his house and I have more pics of him with some other twins… but aside from that it’s interesting to note that Shawn Ashmore (Ice Man from X-Men) has a twin brother named Aaron and his brother wrote a blog post and described that he use to live in Bryan Singer’s house. So while I have no proof that Bryan dated them, you should be able to put two and two together. Of course they are way too old for him now. Just like Bryan Singer dropped Dan Harris and Michael Dougherty after they became too old and Superman Returns bombed. What, did you think a 24 year old Dan Harris became the writer of X-Men 2 based solely on narrative talent?
Also, an old photo (top right) of Singer with a young model named Frankie Donjae.
We’ll keep you updated as more details become available. If you’d like to share a story about or knowledge of Bryan Singer’s infamous parties, tell us at [email protected].

UPDATE: Singer’s attorney has issued a statement, pointing to a similar lawsuit filed by Egan in 2000 that claimed he was molested by Marc Collins-Rector, for which he received a default settlement. Singer’s attorney claims the repeat allegations prove his client’s innocence and that Egan is “seeking to get his 15 minutes of fame.” He also revealed that Bryan Singer will file his own suit against Egan for “malicious prosecution”:
The claims made today about Bryan Singer are completely fabricated. We look forward to our bringing a claim for malicious prosecution against Mr. Egan and his attorney after we prevail. It is obvious that plaintiff’s attorney is not looking to litigate the case on its merits. This matter is nothing more than the attorney seeking to get his 15 minutes of fame by sending out a press release with his ‘media consultant’ yesterday and following up with a press conference today. Attorneys who try cases don’t hold press conferences.
Billy Budd
I have to admit, the photo is a bit shocking.

“Twinks” aren’t necessarily underage, I’ve been called a twink a lot and I’m in my 20’s. I hardly consider that to be tangible evidence of anything and, furthermore, if sex-crazed and drug-fueled parties are indicative of a person’s moral fiber then many Hollywood types would be thrown in the clink without hesitation. When Charlie Sheen has pornstars being groomed and breeded like cattle, we laugh but when Bryan Singer does it, it’s fricken Sodom and Gomorrah.
Let’s see how things develop before fanning the flames.
Kamuriie
This is one of those cases, it seems, where the charges might be both factually true, and yet the lawsuit is without merit.
Is there a good chance he’s telling the truth, and did attend parties of Singer’s? A good chance. How about that he partook of alcohol and drugs while at these parties? A good chance. And had sex with multiple men at these parties? Also a good chance.
However, his own argument undercuts his case. You can’t simultaneously argue that he was “famous for his coke parties” and then act, when you went there, and partook of the alcohol and drugs, and had sex with men, that you were assaulted multiple times on multiple occasions? Really? If you were flown there to be assaulted multiple times, WHY ON EARTH would you keep GOING BACK? And you were 17. The age of consent in Hawaii is *16*.
Now you’re filing a civil lawsuit (since the statute of limitations on criminal charges is long since past) for money. Gee. I wonder what your motivation is?
Spoiler Alert: $$$$$$

People are weird. In the city I live, there is a well known guy that runs several successful clubs and parties. He’s in shape, good looking, seems nice enough BUT like Mr. Singer, he’s not just into younger guys, he’s into emaciated, often riddled with acne, trashy little boys. Sometimes I see him and his twink-du-jour and I feel nothing but pity and embarrassment for him. He’s going to wake up one day totally alone and filled with regret over opportunities lost.
gskorich
14 years after the fact? forced to hop on the plane, forced to come to pool parties? these tragic events caused him to be a drunk and now he is remembering? can i ask one thing? is this man gay? was he promised or paid anything? when he wasn’t being forced to have sex with people where was he, what was he doing? was he abducted from his home and forced to do these things or did he show up to the events?
Billy Budd
There is a guy who posts here on Queerty who just declared that he SAW Singer with underage boys. Maybe the guy is just lying. Maybe he is jealous. Who knows.
hotboyvb81
Dustin Lance Black is a regular attendee at these parties- wonder if the story will spread to him as he defends himself against his Alma Mater for uninviting him to speak at graduation…????
Black Pegasus
Wow I was hoping these allegations were totally off base , but these photos creates doubt about Singers denials.
But this won’t stop me from seeing his much anticipated film Xmen: Days of Future Past. I’ve been waiting a long time for this film and some alcoholic ex twink isn’t gonna dissuade me one bit.
Billy Budd
I must admit, that pool was enticing. I’ve participated in orgies before, but nothing of that magnitude.
PRINCE OF SNARKNESS aka DIVKID
@Black Pegasus:
Sir, verily you are an exemplary humanitarian and a great art connoisseur to boot!
Stache99
I remember Marc Collins-Rector. I used to attend his parties up in the Hollywood hills back in 2000. My friend worked for him at that company DEN.
He was a very wealthy pedophile. He got caught with a 14 year old. He silenced the parents with a million dollar hush agreement. The company was about to go public but the investors found out about it and the company went under. My friend became unemployed over night too.
Stache99
“Bryan will be vindicated in this absurd and defamatory lawsuit.”
Ha. Oh yeah, baby. I have no doubt will be seeing more pictures of Brian and his boy orgys. Sorry you can’t defame someone when everyone already knows what a big drugged out pedo slut you are.
redcarpet
I don’t want to be a rape apologist, but this is sorely lacking in evidence. Singer obviously has a reputation in debauchery but a rapist that does not make.
All we have to go on is the word of an admitted addict 15 years after the fact with timing suspiciously close to a big movie release? I’m sorry but it’s just not enough to go on.
Now if this causes other more provable cases to come forward I’d say throw the book at the bastard. Where there is smoke there is often fire after all. But right now as it stands, there is nothing to go on.
edzarkowski
Looking over those pics, I dont really see that it is obvious that there are underage kids there. Most people in the photos seem to appear older, some middle aged even. Everyone appears to have their clothes on too. I dont see that this is any evidence of any thing.
It is not illegal to have pool parties. Looks like any party in Key West, Provincetown or Palm Springs, really.
Ryan26pdx
I met Singer at a few parties in Seattle when I was starting my first year in college about eight years ago. Perhaps he was more arrogant back in 1999, but the guy I met seemed more comfortable when people weren’t trying to get him to talk about his movies and the celebrities he knew. He was a lot less full of himself than many of the older “Microsoft Millionaires” who were throwing parties to attract younger guys. Egan is most likely just one of many who were caught up in a party lifestyle and ended up making stupid choices. I certainly made my share of them, but at this point I would hardly sue any of the guys who took advantage of me taking advantage of them. I was never raped nor did I ever have to force myself have sex with anyone, but even at 18-19-20 I knew that the booze and lovely – police free – houses to party at always had the potential to not be entirely “free”.
SoThenWhatHappened
@Kamuriie:
Wow. You sound a lot like one of Sandusky’s apologists. Guess those boys were asking for it, huh?
Stache99
@edzarkowski: I think their referring to the after party, orgy or whatever. Stuff you don’t see in the pics. Just the way any good party operates.
Sansacro
Wait for the hard evidence. Sandusky had witnesses and evidence. So far, here, I see nothing but accusations, and dubious ones considering the source. Pool party looks any circuit party. Blonde kid could be 18, 19, even 20, and posing for a photo does not rape or pedo sex make.
Billy Budd
The youngest guy I’ve ever had was 19 yo. He was cute but I had to teach him everything, even how to kiss. I would rather have someone who is not so innocent and virginal. It is a big responsibility to date these teens even though it is legal.
I think men are the most beautiful between the ages of 18 to 25. But youngsters are not good in bed, unless all you care about is to stick it in.
Sex is more than sticking it in.
ingyaom
Is the pool supposed to look like it’s full of blood? Gross.
Billy Budd
@ingyaom: They are probably swimming in pink champagne. Not blood. lol
Lvng1tor
@SoThenWhatHappened: Not to condone rape at all or say that his age makes a difference but Sandusky raped little boys. there is a difference between pedophilia and Ephebophilia. I don’t condone either and rape is rape but there is a massive difference between Sandusky’s proven actions and Singers alleged actions. There is a difference.
Billy Budd
Who is this Sandusky guy? Another actor? Ive never heard of him.
Niall
Those pics look pretty harmless though, and most of those boys look either late teens or early 20s, young yes, but not illegal.
millo
What’s wrong with liking a twink? i think there’s nothing wrong with him having sex with a twink as long as the twink isn’t underage and both parties wanting it.
I’m 19 and i’m sooo tired of all those feminine bearded queen hating on me!
hotboyvb81
when all the Tom Daley/Dustin Lance Black started, there was a video linked to/shared a lot of DLB at one of Singer’s pool parties with porn star Brent Corrigan…the other guys in the video all looked under 20…Queerty might even have been one of the sites that showed it.
stranded
Nobody gives a shit about Hugh Hefner’s playboy parties anymore but if Singer does it, then he’s a sicko?
InscrutableTed
Queerty doesn’t know what “defendant” means.
Stache99
@stranded: Ha. 2 sides of the came coin really. Just proves that men are not much better then dogs always looking to park their tootsie rolls in the youngest tightest holes they can find. In hef’s case it’s done with a heavy dozing of ED drugs.
Stache99
@stranded: ..and I imagine the girls have a heavy dosing of serious sedatives so they don’t have to think about that reality too much. Just that new car Hef just bought them.
Billy Budd
@Lvng1tor: You are absolutely right. It is “normal” to feel attracted to a 18+ yo, and you can call that Ephebophilia. But pedophiles feel attracted to 10, 11, 12 year-olds. It is a whole new level. A different game. I have just read Sandusky´s profile on wikipedia. It is shocking.
Merv
Sorry, but I have yet to see a picture of anyone obviously underage. Even the blond twink, who I guess is supposed to be the smoking gun, looks 18 or 19 to me. If it were a blond bimbo at a straight Hollywood party it wouldn’t even merit a mention.
Cam
Another kid claimed that Singer gave him a role after they messed around in a hot tub. The kid played Pyro in the 1st X-men and after he told the story was replaced for the second.
DK
@Lvng1tor: There is a difference, but it is not as “massive” as you make it. Pedophilia popularly refers to any interest in minors, that’s how it’s being used here. Much like all cotton swabs are called Q-tips. It’s not specifically accurate, but colloquially accurate.
Those of us who went to college in Los Angeles and/or have lived in WeHo for a time all know (or have heard from close sources) about these these “white twinks only” bang-a-teen parties that have been going on in Hollywood at least since the 1980s. The names associated with them over the years are not secret: Hollywood directors, Oscar-winning actors associated with said directors, Scientologist box office stars, child performers living and dead, vampire franchise pinups, A&F models turned TV stars, famous gay screenwriters. Everybody knows who they are, hence the constant rumor mill about the sexuality of those allegedly involved who are not out.
Everyone deserves the presumption of innocence. Extortion based on questionable but not criminal does happen and it does permanently ruin reputations (Jackson, Michaal). It is a lead from “poor judgment” to “predator” to “pedophile”. But would I be surprised? Nope. Let’s let it play out because there’s a ton of people around here who know where the twinks are buried.
DK

Captain proton
Head held underwater to preform… and then forcibly sodomized… I’m sure I’ve read any number of stories on nifty.org that have that very scene in them.
Alan down in Florida
If you know anything about Hollywood history you know that parties like the aforementioned have been going on since the movie industry came to Hollywood. The casting couch was never exclusively for women. Many openly gay directors and closeted stars frequently held or went to weekly parties exactly like they do now.
Jason
These young guys know exactly what goes on at those types of parties. To come back 15 years later and say you were raped is nothing but BULLSHIT. Give me a break.
Boricuaex
I am not ready to condemn a man of statutory rape based on a couple of photos that demonstrate a bunch of guys (one of whom is balding) swimming and one young man wearing a Marilyn Monroe shirt with his arms wrapped around the Defendant! It could have been a fan of the X-Men movies, it could have been anything.
That character wakes up from a drunken stupor one morning and says, “Oh yeah, I think I got raped” and then proceeds to file a lawsuit!? GTFOOH! Whatever. He flew to Hawaii voluntarily and consensually. He went to the party voluntarily and consensually. He removed his garments voluntarily and consensually. If he was 17, what the hell was doing in Hawaii without a chaperone, a guardian or a parent?
Throbert McGee
Bryan Singer is a shameful slut who needs to be slut-shamed for his shameful sluttiness.
Also, he sets a terribly bad example for gay men who are much younger and less experienced than him, which greatly compounds his overall Shameful Slut score.
Can we agree on that?
tommiej
I have no doubt that Mr. Singer has a thing for twinks. I also have no doubt there were probably some coke-fueled sexy pool parties thrown. But that doesn’t make him a pedophile. He’s no more a pedophile than Hugh Hefner, who gets high-fives for dating 18-you girls while he’s in his 70’s.
What makes me doubt Mr. Egan’s clams is that he already filed a similar suit against Marc Collins-Rector, back in 2000. So why didn’t he complain about Singer in that same suit? He suddenly remembered a second molester after almost 15 years? It just doesn’t add up.
DK
@tommiej: Mixing teenagers with sex, drugs, and alcohol is a losing proposition. I don’t know why — with so many hot adult gay males in Los Angeles, seriously one every five feet — that porn companies and Hollyhood powerbrokers insist on playing with fire this way.
Teenagers are great. They’re also batcrap crazy insane. Their brains are underdeveloped. They generally have suspect judgment. I kept pointing out on the thread about the high school kid who got into all that drama at his high school for doing porn, that 18 year olds are adults in name only, and that it would behoove the gay entertainment industry to police themselves regarding the barely legal set just to save themselves the predatory image and the headache.
This is a prime example why. I thought after the Brent Corrigan debacle people would get it, but maybe it’s going to take a guy like Bryan Singer and his buddies who shall remain nameless having their reputations ruined (innocent or not) for this flirting with pedophilia to stop.
I am not unacquainted with Hefner’s ex wife and their children. The Playboy Parties are not “fight club-ish” and exclusive as what was going on with Singer. It’s relatively easy to obtain an invite and everything that happens, happens in the light. Hef won’t be accused of something he didn’t do because there’s no place for clandestine molestations at the Mansion. And none of the girls are going to accuse him since teenage girls are generally less impulsive and immature than teenage boys (my observation, but their brains do develop more quickly).
Regardless, this is Singer’s third such accusation. Maybe it’s time for him to change his age preference, clearly the Hefner route isn’t working out for him.
tricky ricky
itching for a lawsuit? singer can prove he was out of the country during the alleged incident and will be counter suing.
tricky ricky
THE JERK WHO IS MAKING THE CLAIM IS SHOPPING A SCREEN PLAY! tells ya all ya needs ta know. then there is the fact singer was in Canada filming xmen at the time…..
tommiej
@DK: I am totally not condoning his twink chasing. In fact, if he stuck to pursuing men his own age – none of this would have happened! I’ve never understood the allure of dating a teen when you are in your 30’s.
I only take exception that because he’s gay, certain outlets are labeling him a pedophile. Which is inaccurate as there’s no evidence he has sexually molested any children. Dating 17 to 19 yo’s is creepy but it’s not pedophilia.
SteveDenver
Shame on Singer and others for not stocking their swimming pool with 40-year-olds! And shame on Singer for having his picture snapped fully clothed with a young “model.”
And shame on Queerty for buying into the easy accusation that gays are pedophiles.
As for Egan’s statements, watch his entire press conference: it appears he has found religion, labeling this and that as “evil,” even though the young “actor” (whose IMDB.com profile is seriously sparse) appears to have returned again and again to such parties.
Stache99
@tommiej: Technically he’s an Ephebophile. I think Pedophile has a nicer ring to it but alas you’re right.
SteveDenver
@Pistolo: @tricky ricky: Very interesting. I googled just to make sure your comment was valid and it is.
Isn’t it stunning how many times I’ve been in gay bars and have seen multitudes of men in their 30s and 40s chasing men in their 20s? (Actually the same happens in straight bars with women in their 20s.) Now all these Queerty commenters are “youth proof” and disapproving?
That picture was taken at an after Gay Pride party near Hollywood, and some of the comments find the photo “shocking.” What ridiculous prudery.
Icebloo
I have been to a number of gay parties where people have been naked both in and out of the pool. Nobody made me get naked and nobody made me have any kind of sexual contact with them. Just because people are naked at a party does not mean they are having any kind of sex.
Yes these pictures may show naked people in a pool but it is no indication of sexual contact or sexual abuse.
Stache99
@SteveDenver: If it just stayed at the twenties. The people (Marc Collins-Rector) he consorted with were actual convicted pedophiles though. I wasn’t there so I can’t say one way or the other. However, it does make this guys claims look valid with what we know taken all together.
hotshot70
if it was so horrible, why did people go back again and again? It’s like the Michael Jackson Neverland mess. Kids kept going, then he paid off parents and they kept going.
mydude
The least surprising revelation of all time.
Billy Budd
@Icebloo: The orgy probably took place indoors, not by the pool. These guys know how to enjoy themselves. I fear them and I envy them.
Merv
@DK: It’s incredibly presumptuous for you to tell anyone who he should be dating. As long as it’s legal — and Singer hasn’t been convicted of anything yet — people’s private romantic and sex lives are their own to decide.
And the pop psychology stuff is silly. Sex is just sex. Being at the absolute peak of your mental development is not a prerequisite for having an orgasm. If it were, then we would not allow any sexual stimulation at all for anyone more than three months before or after than their 26th birthday.
tazz602
Singer may not be completely innocent in all of this, but tell me HOW you get on a 5 hour flight (from LAX) to go to his house in Hawaii, knowing what is going to happen, and then say you were raped? It’s obviously sour grapes, these people are out for a payday or because they didn’t get one are trying to ruin Singer.
DK
@Merv: I think it’s presumptuous to ply teenagers with booze and drugs and then be shocked, shocked when things inevitably go awry. Legal does not mean prudent. A sex life which includes orgies that everyone in town either knows about or has been to is not private.
The development of the human brain is not pop psychology, it’s scientific fact — unless you’re some sort of neurology truther. And sex is not just sex unless you live in kumbaya lala land. Is sex with a ten year old just sex? How about drugging and penetrating someone, is that just sex? Twelve year olds can orgasm, is it “just sex” to have sex with them? I didn’t realize I stumbled into a NAMBLA meeting.
It’s not about us “allowing” people to do this that or the other. It’s about adults having the wisdom and maturity to make choices that do the least harm to themselves and others. And if you need the limits of legality to distinguish between wise vs. unwise decision-making, them you have maladjustment issues that no one’s allowance can fix.
Bopper1
…as long as the partner is “legal” and they don’t scare the horses, none of this ought to matter to anyone…but child abuse isn’t acceptable…younger isn’t necessarily illegal, just younger…if Mr. Singer is guilty of having sex with an underaged boy, there’s no defense…if the boy isn’t underaged, then the rest of you can shut up…it’s his choice, his life…thanks!
Merv
@DK: Yes, brain development is a real phenomenon. What is not real is this silly proposition that sex is an activity as complicated as brain surgery or flying a commercial airliner, which cannot possibly be engaged in by someone whose brain is not at the absolute peak of development. As long as both participants are legally adults and not severely incapacitated by intoxicants, then that is more than enough qualification for any two people who choose to do so to have sex without being second-guessed by busybodies not directly involved.
Stevenw
I feel bad that I even looked at this story – I wish to apologise to Singer for even have clicked on it.
What do we gain by this speculation? If he is guilty we can only say that we were (very debatably, very lamely) wise after the fact. If he is innocent, we just speculated on and slurred an innocent man. We’ve done no good, only harm. Is that ‘justice’?
I really do think its time that we make the indentities of *both* parties in a case 100% protected. Cause célèbre cases such as this are simply trial-by-media. We play into the hands of the money-grubbing social-gadfly (ace word!) by letting this continue.
I’d rather have a media blackout on all such cases, until after the jury – the people who’s job it is – have declared guilt or innocence.
Trial by a jury of our peers, the keystone of justice, is being undermined by the kiss-and-tell swarm and their ilk. Lets have full protection for all parties until the verdict has been made; lets have justice seen to have been done after it actually *has* been done, by a jury in possession of all the facts and not by social media gossip!
Persa
The only issues at hand in this incidence should be has Bryan Singer had sex with someone who was not of the age of consent to have sex with him when the sex occured and has he forced someone (of any age) to have sex with him without their consent. THOSE are the issues that hopefully actual evidence will resolve one way or the other.
Pedophilia is about CHILDREN, not teenagers. No matter how many terms you use for sexual desire between someone out of their teens and someone in their teens, teenagers are not children. They are sometimes minors depending upon how old they are and where they live.
The word “minor” is relative and contextual depending upon which state you are in. That is real talk
The age of consent in Hawaii is 16. People in this country for centuries have gotten married at 17, 18, 19 depending upon where in the country they lived. You can legally drive a car by yourself at 16 go to war and vote at 18. Diving a car and not killing yourself or others is a lot harder than having sex.
No one should ever be forced to have sex without their consent regardless of age and I don’t even think that is a question. If anyone raped this young man they should be punished to the full extent of the law. But he still has to proove his case. An accusation is not proof. I don’t care how many parties full of twinks Bryan Singer has thrown, if the twinks were legally able to consent to being there then it is nobody’s business.
Pretending that a 16 – 19 year old can’t knowingly and in sound mind consent to having sex with someone their age and older is ridiculous. That kind of delusional thinking is why unwanted pregnancies and STIs are so rampant when it comes to teens because adults like to pretend they aren’t sexual being and they are having sex, looking for sex, seeking out sexual partners (“appropriate and not”)
I don’t know if Bryan Singer is guilty because so far there is NO EVIDENCE that has been put forth to prove the case of the accuser.
That he likes to date and have sex with young men is not illegal nor does it make him a pedophile. As long as they are of legal aga and sound mind he is doing nothing wrong (no matter how much joy other men who are supposed to be reasonable adults get in “shaming” him about it)
I remember what being 16 – 19 was like and I would have hopped on anything that stood still long enough to let me and I didn’t need to be convinced or coerced or manipulated or drugged. It is a normal teenage phase and usually teenagers go through it and mature into more responsible sexual beings.
Gays and Lesbians should not be shaming other gays and lesbians about having sex that is legal and consensual just because it’s not the kind of sex we would have. That is a VERY slippery slope.
tjr101
A 17 year old is more than capable of making informed decisions. Was he forced to attend these parties, or blackmailed in anyway?
BTW, that pool looks like a giant petri dish.

@Billy Budd: Your existing is shocking!. And the shmuck didn`t invite me 🙁 .

@Pistolo:
In NYC, kids were once called “chickens” because they were not yet in their teens. and those who were ‘attracted’ to them were called: “chicken hawks”, and underage teens were called: “twinks” because they were not yet of legal age (eighteen or twenty-one}, and when ‘porn’ became easily accessible on the Web, the dilemma was obvious so ‘they’ called every youthful looking person a “twink”…… Problem solved, though not in the least bit accurate to those who understood the vernacular of the Times Square District.
Maude
In the post addressed to “Pistolo” above, I was in fact replying to “Billy Budd”. Queerty got wrong.
Maude
Queerty…..Why not include the word and the ability to “EDIT” in in all posts as do so many other sites?!!
DK
@Merv: Reductio ad absurdum strawman argument. No one said teenagers “cannot” have sex. They obviously the can. The question is whether its wise and prudent for grown men to sexualize them while plying them with drugs and booze. The answer is no — no matter how much twink-obsessed gay men don’t want to hear it.
If Singer and his ilk want to keep giving sex and booze to teenagers, then they can keep having allegations of sex abuse pop up every half-decade. His prerogative in a free country, and my prerogative in a free country to point out that doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result is absurd.
The “legal adult” threshold is arbitrary: there’s no functional or emotional difference between a kid who is 17 and 11 months and one who is 18. Age of consent laws vary from state to state. Who cares? I don’t need to low those laws because I know from a lifetime of working with teenagers that they are, in fact, relatively poor decision-makers and too immature to be worth the trouble — save very rare exceptions. If the only thing stopping an adult from having sex with teenagers are vagaries of legislation, then there is something wrong with that guy.
The study, welfare and education of young people is my life’s work. So vis a vis that I wear the “busybody” label and any other name tossed out by gay who cannot deal with reality proudly.
@tjr101: “A 17 year old is more than capable of making informed decisions.” With a hat tip to the aforementioned exceptions, this is one of the most simplistically untrue and overgeneralized misstatements I’ve ever read.
Merv
@DK: First of all, “sexualize” is a loaded term usually applied to pre-pubescent children with little or no sex drive. An eighteen year old does not need to be sexualized, because he already has a very strong sex drive.
You dismiss my argument as an absurd strawman, but then go right back making the same claims I was attempting to refute. I’m obviously not communicating well, so I’ll be more explicit.
Deciding whether or not to have sex takes MINIMAL decision-making skills, so minimal that it’s well within the capability of anyone over the age of consent. “Do I want to have sex with this guy or not?” It’s not a complicated decision. We’re not talking about a marriage contract, or a long-term relationship, but no-strings-attached sex. Having sex is really NOT A BIG DEAL. We are post-sexual revolution, and no longer have to hew to Victorian values of sexual purity and shaming. The most serious consideration is risk of STDs, but there are simple precautions that can greatly reduce the risk. What we’re left with is possibly having sex with someone who we later regret having sex with. Again, not a big deal.
As for a 40-something year old wanting to pursue a serious relationship with an 18-year-old? I agree that the difference in intellectual development would make that highly unlikely to succeed for very long, unless the 18 year old were unusually mature. But sex is about as far from an intellectual activity as you can get. They might very well have a fulfilling one night stand or even a brief fling. I don’t see anything wrong with casual sex, as long as it’s done safely. Sex for its own sake is perfectly OK.
As for the study of the welfare of young people, I’m sure you’re aware that most social sciences tend to concentrate on pathology, so the view of those on the inside might be a little skewed. You seldom hear about cases where there is no problem.
I’m sure you’re wondering if I’m a twink-chaser. The answer is no. I’ve never had sex with anyone more than five years older or younger than I am, with the youngest being about 22, and about half being older than I am. But, if I weren’t in a long-term relationship, and the opportunity presented itself, I would not rule out sleeping with someone much younger than I am (of legal age), if I found him attractive. However, I probably would not pursue a serious relationship.
DK
@Merv: You got me. My clinical interest is abnormal psych. My soft spot was for the hard cases, kids everyone gave up on. But even for the majority who were just regular kids with everyday struggles, statements such as “sex takes MINIMAL decision-making skills” is a false red herring and “sex is really NOT A BIG DEAL” is a blanket statement that doesn’t apply.
It’s a red herring because so what? The decision to turn a steering wheel right or left, or to press on the gas or brake is simple and minimal. However, depending on any number of variables — when? where? — the outcomes may not be positive. The same is true of sex, and not just for teens. Yeah, you don’t need a Ph.D. to get a hard on and stick it in. But should you? Most are better at answering constructively the when, what, where, how, why of that at 27, 37, 47 than at 17.
They *can* have sex because puberty makes their bodies functional and the brain’s amygdala, which governs instinctual urges like sex, develops early. Cruelly, the frontal cortex, which governs executive decision-making, is a work in progress up to the mid-late 20s. That explains why the human condition improved exponentially in societies once their average lifespans rose. It also confirms the observed research showing teens are generally less likely to think before acting, change maladaptive behaviors, and consider outcomes. They are more likely to be accident prone, impulsive, and risky. They also tend to misinterpret — which may be where Bryan keeps running into trouble if innocent.
Does it mean teen are incapable of making good decisions or should not take responsibility? No, it just means they need guidance.
Blanket statements are usually untrue because variables make it easy to find disqualifying examples. Human variables often do make sex a big deal. Child sex, for example, is a big deal. Forcible sex is too. Losing one’s virginity tends to be also. So does sex beyond the agreed-upon boundaries of a relationship. And on and on.
Sexual relationships between mature, self-actualized adults tends to be messy and complicated; that much more so for an angsty age population whose brain scans are indistinguishable from those of psychotics. Out of a sample size of several thousand, it has not been my experience that sex between teenagers is not a big deal to most of them, let alone drug and booze-fueled orgies with far more sophisticated partners. The decision to engage in that kind of hypersexualized stimulation is best left to folks with a more fully developed sense of self (and frontal cortex). Teens who fit the bill are rare exceptions that by comparison prove the rule that their peers are not there yet developmentally.
The most important sex organ is the brain, if you’re having good sex. Does that equal intellectualization? Maybe, maybe not, but from what I can see people are most fulfilled sexually when not disconnected from the serious interpersonal, emotional, psychological and physical considerations involved. And I’m pretty sure 18 year-olds are mostly not able to process those considerations. There’s a reason Bryan isn’t being hit by lawsuits every five years from the sex he’s had with adults
theowlmike
Ah,to be a young twink again. I remember chasing after older men when I was quite a young teenage boy (14/15). How many time I lied about my age to just get into an older man’s pants and/or spend the night in his bed. I was definitely “not raped” nor seduced by these men . I was the “predator”! SO all these men coming out now stating they blame older men for seducing them is just a load of crap for the most part. Yes, there are some who have been forced but the vast majority are just horny young men taking advantage of older men.
Merv
@DK: Alas, we have failed to convince each other, but it’s gratifying to discover intelligent life in the most unlikely of places. 🙂
DK
@Merv: Fuck yeah!
Billy Budd
@DK: Stop with the frontal cortex bullshit. In nature, bonobo monkeys have sex from a very early age. So did primitive humans. So did humans in antiquity. A 18 yo is adult enough to have sex with whomever he or she wants. The age of consent in northern european countries is much lower than the american one, and they are doing fine. You are over reacting and underestimating the benefits of sex and love for young men. Sex is good, should be seen as something NORMAL.
Billy Budd
@DK:
The age of consent is 13 in Spain.
It is 14 in Austria, Germany, Italy, Liechtenstein, Portugal.
It is 15 in Denmark, France, Iceland, Monaco, and Sweden.
It is 16 in Belgium, Finland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Switzerland, UK.
You should EVOLVE on this matter.
DK
@Billy Budd: No, your fact allergy is not going to stop me from disseminating proved conclusions based on decades of accumulated data. So I’ll instead repeat it: the frontal cortex of the human brain, which governs executive decision-making, develops far more slowly than the part of the brain that governs instincts like sex. This explains, developmentally, the relatively poor decision-making of the very young.
It’s not news to anyone paying attention that species develop at different rates and evolve over time — as has the human brain — just as I’m sure that the sexual habits of monkeys has diddly poo to do with how humans should conduct themselves. That humans once had imperative to procreate early due to terribly brief and brutal lives is also moot. Humans did a lot of things in antiquity that we now have very good reasons to avoid, allowing us to enjoy a quality of life they could only imagine.
Age of consent laws here, there, and everywhere are arbitrary: again, there is virtually no difference between a kid who is 17 and 11 months and one who is 18. Who cares about age of consent? Adults shouldn’t need laws to identify inappropriate sex partners, and most don’t need them. It’s unfortunate that we do have these laws because adult-in-name-only Kool Aid drinkers apparently cannot be trusted to figure it out on their own.
There are areas of the world with no age of consent. Is it therefore NORMAL and EVOLVED for adults to have sex with 4 year olds? 3 year olds? 2 year olds? Infants? Only the sorriest, most desperate, mentally arrested sad sack needs an age of consent law to answer that question.
You are underestimating the damage that premature sexualization can do a person who is not ready for it, but those of us out here in the reality based community helping damaged individuals recover see it daily.
I couldn’t care less whether or not you stop peddling pro-pederasty fairy tales. But stopping me from calling shenanigans on NAMBLA’s half-baked, irrational, unreasonable, and selfish fantasies masquerading as enlightenment? Pfft. Save it for some clueless rube who hasn’t watched thousands of kids grow up.
toberlin
@Billy Budd: Dear Billy Budd, we are Humans not Bonobos. So let us use the brain/ cortex for a moment, cause you should EVOLVE in this matter.
All northern european countries with the age of consent under 18 have legal restrictions. At first the parents have to allow the contact with your sexpartner. And for Example: In spain , age of consent is 16, sex with someone under 16 is allowed, if the other party is of similiar age or stage of development and maturity .For example:In Germany if one person is 14 the other one older than 21 the parents can accuse you.And so on…..My english is to bad to explain it better. Exploit a predicament is not allowed anyway. There is nothing wrong with Teenagers having Sex. I think, problem is:
If you are a girl you often better educated to say NO to sexual things you don`t want to and in preventing STIs/pregnancy( its a burden). Boys are more enforced to say YES to risky behaviour even if they are scared or a sexual situation feel not right to them. And they have often less sexual education. My sisters and I had countless offers to party with hard drugs and have sex without condom, like most other attractive girls. Girls are not less horny. They are simply often more selective with their sexpartners and / or better educated.
I think boys in general need better sexual education. Parents and the society need to talk more with children about sex.Than also man who are gay would be better prepared to avoid bad experiences/STIs.
Billy Budd
@toberlin: You have to consider that the boy was a junkie and a sex worker. He repeatedly and willingly flew to meet these people. Now, decades later, he wants more money. I do not agree with this.
Billy Budd
@DK: Dear DK, I never said that little children should be fu**ed by older men. That is a horrible thing and a crime. But a junkie, willing sex worker should not come up decades later and ask for more cash. NO.
DK
@Billy Budd: Mmmm hmmm, but should big children? 5 year olds? 6 year olds? 7? 8? 9? 10 year olds? How about 11 year olds? 12 year olds? Where is this apparently not arbitrary cutoff where anal and oral sex between adults and other peoples’ (I hope) minor kids becomes not horrible?
I find fascinating the blatant hypocrisy that posits sex between adults and adolescents as normal and evolved but renders taking money for sex dispositive of immorality. Adult men who play teens with booze and drugs are blameless and evolved, but should a teen receive money for said drugs and sex, well he is a junkie without credibility. It’s the kid’s fault. Fascinating.
If fact teen junkies and sex workers do not deserve to be forcibly raped or sexually abused without redress any more than the drug and alcohol peddling wannabe-teenage pederasts who enable and pay them deserve to be rendered prematurely guilty of crimes they have not committed. Both should receive a fair hearing. I think. But maybe not, maybe only real teenagers should have to live with the consequences of their predictably poor choices. Why should adult Pied Pipers, Peter Pans, and Toys R Us Kids take responsibility for anything?
Billy Budd
@DK:
Billy Budd
@DK: The junkie call boy was not forced to do anything. I bet he was enjoying himself considerably. He was 17 and a half years old, for chrissakes. He deserved a good pounding. Now, decades later, he wants more money. It is not right.
Billy Budd
I repeat what Jason said:
These young guys know exactly what goes on at those types of parties. To come back 15 years later and say you were raped is nothing but BULLSHIT. Give me a break.
Ogre Magi
@SoThenWhatHappened: Why don’t you go thump your bible somehwere else
kewlsocr
This is the oldest game in the book. You try to embarrass a gay celebrity to get a cash payoff, to make the story go away. Is anyone shocked that Hollywood moguls have pool parties in LA? This happens every weekend. If you are a high school kid, those are the parties you want to get into, and you’ll lie and tag along with anyone you can to get in the door. I know, I did. If single adults want to fool around at a party, they can, its not illegal. If you get yourself in trouble because you snuck into that party, or lied about your age, that’s your fault. Don’t show up 15 years later whining for money.
DK
@kewlsocr: But putting themselves in situations the make them show up 15 years later whining for money is precisely the kind of thing a teenager does, isn’t it? So why anyone with any intelligence would invite that drama into their lives — the different times and counting, no less — is anyone’s guess.
It may suck that there’s a blackhole in the street, and be totally unfair that there’s a blackhole in the street, and screw the blackhole for being in the street. But knowing, as we do, that blackhole is right there in the street — the third time you fall in that’s on you, not the hole.
Choices.
Billy Budd
These call boys are little devils. They are responsible for being irresponsible. If you he sold his body, that is his responsibility. His choice. If he flew in repeatedly to meet his “rapists”, then he wasn’t raped. If he took 15 years to complain about it and it coincides with the moment when a new movie is being released, then he is an opportunistic LEECH.
toberlin
@Billy Budd: I have considered this.We both have simply different ethical standarts.”junkie call boys” are humans too.In my book.I have no problem with sexpartys ,orgies, prostitution, drugs( in a “healthy” dose) or an age gap without a huge imbalance of power.I do have a problem with people who ABUSING their power for their own advantage or pleasure while giving a massive shit about the consequences for others. And paying drug addicted teenagers for sex or giving them drugs can`t be healthy. And now the “parasite” plays your game.He is giving a shit about that Singer-Guy and his career and is seeking his own advantage. That does not make him a better person than Singer. But WHY should he care ? I`ve talked about education.I think “junkie call boy” shows us now what he has learned in the “Singer School”.No revenge, just reality
Billy Budd
@toberlin: Please don’t get me wrong. I respect call boys. I think it is a noble profession, because they bring happiness and/or relief to people. I think prostitution should be entirely legal. I am also favorable to decriminalization of some drugs, even though I don’t use them and don’t recommend them because they have risks.
The last time I had sex with a call boy was 5 years ago. He was using some drug while we did it. I think it was ecstasy or meth, because he was sweating profusely. But he was tender, dedicated and generous, and we had a wonderful time together. I was very grateful to him and paid him generously.
But Singer’s call boy is playing the victim 15 years later, at a time when Singer is the most vulnerable. All he wants is money. He is not telling the whole truth, because I am 100%n sure he was not raped. I cannot support him.
toberlin
How can you be 100% sure? Were you there?
P.S.:Prostitution is entirely legal in Germany for adults.
Billy Budd
@toberlin: He wouldn’t have returned many times to meet Singer in case it was non consentual. He FLEW to go there, many times. That is not the attitude of someone who is raped. Also, it would not take 15 years for him to realize he should ask for more money. He is being oportunistic.
Prostitution is not a crime in Brazil. But it is still illegal to make it a business. Prostitutes neither have rights to federal retirement plans, nor enjoy the other benefits that are offered to the “regular” professions.
toberlin
@Billy Budd:If he was addicted to drugs he WOULD have returned. If Singer has supplied him with money and/or drugs he WOULD have returned.Even if Singer has violated or raped him.Drug addiction is a HEAVY ILLNESS.Offer Junkies your help or leave them alone. Paying them for sex with drugs or money is ABUSE in my book. With certainty there are enough Prostitutes/Escorts in the USA in Brazil and in Germany who do their job only for the money and not for drugs.
