Chinese Woman Wins $12K Harassment Claim Against Overly Flirtatious Internet Lady Friend

Huang Xiaoyan, a pseudonym [and not pictured], scored a US$12,000 settlement in China’s “first case of cyber homosexual harassment.” Xiaoyan claims a female Internet friend who used the alias “Beautiful Mood” went from exchanging friendly banter when they met online in 2007 to sexual descriptions. (NB: Xiaoyan Beautiful Mood were introduced by Beautiful Mood’s husband.) So Xiaoyancut off contact, but B.M. began texting and emailing her, including at work, forcing Xiaoyan to quit her job after “suffering from mental illness due to the stress of the ordeal.” So filed suit in May 2009. Sixteen months later, she’s getting her payout.
