Church Bulletin, Pt. 2: New York’s Homophobic Archbishop Gets A Big Fat Promotion!

It was a good weekend to be a clergyman in the Roman Catholic Church. No, it wasn’t a Boy Scout convention.

On Friday Chicago Cardinal Francis George got protestors to (pretty much) keep away from Holy Name Cathedral. And on the same day, Pope Benedict announced that New York Archbishop Timothy Dolan would be made a cardinal in a ceremony in Rome this February.

As archbishop, Dolan is president of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, which works to “promote and defend marriage as the union between one man and one woman” with homophobic ads and commercials. And he tried (unsuccessfully) to derail marriage equality in his adopted home state of New York, calling it “a violation of what we consider the natural law that’s embedded in every man and woman.”

So you’ll forgive us if we don’t bake His Excellency a cake for the occasion.

May he receive as he has given. Why is it that the Catholic leadership is so damn intent upon forcing their brand of hate upon us? I know of NO Catholic parishner who supports or voices this kind of hate. Yet, the church keep pushing it upon them.

They are damned by their own unholy hand.
