First Sign of the Apocalypse: Madge, Gaga Honor Britney At VMAs

The list of pop music divas appearing in the Britney Spears tribute at the VMAs keeps growing and growing:

Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Nicki Minaj and Ke$ha have all been named as artists performing in a tribute set at MTV’s Video Music Awards  on August 28. The queen bee herself, Madonna, is rumored to be making an appearance too. (Though if Madge sings one of Brit’s songs, we imagine the walls of the Nokia Theater will actually start bleeding.)

Other names being floated include Demi Lovato, Janet Jackson and Selena Gomez.

“If this lineup is legit (which I’m told it is) the tribute to Britney at the VMAs is gonna be insanely EPIC!,” TV producer Johnathan Woodbeck (Top Chef, Project Runway) tweeted.

Lady Gaga will reportedly sing “Circus,” Katy Perry is lined up for “Oops I Did It Again,” while Ke$ha and Nicki Minaj will collaborate on “Gimme More,”and Brit will be the last to perform with a mash-up of her hits “Hold It Against Me” and “I Wanna Go.”

What, no Kevin Federline? We’d love to hear the “Popo Zao” rapper tackle, “I’m Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman.”

I acknowledge that this is a white interest site, but when it comes to music, ‘Queen Bee’ always refers to Beyonce.
      Just BTW. #AsYouWere

Janet performing Britney? Shouldn’t it be the other way? What a joke. And Madonna and GaGa are real artists, Britney is just a popstar. Madonna is way above this

How much is Brit paying MTV for this gig? Free ads and promos for the other Divas.

Can someone enlighten us as to why Britney is being honored this way at the VMA’s? Don’t get me wrong, I like a good portion of the latest album, but don’t quite get why a bunch of other artists are going to perform her songs.

      @Beyonka: LMAO no.
Kim was Queen Bee while Beyonce was still trying to get someone to pay her telephone bills.

And this may be the gayest thing I’ve ever posted on queerty…

For a filthy, little piece of southern white trash, Britney Spears has managed to carve out an incredibly successful career. If you’ve ever heard her try to sing without the assist of AutoTune, you know what I mean.

It would make sense that MTV VMA’s honor Britney Spears since historically – she is VMA History. From her strip performance to her dance with a boa to the infamous kiss with Madonna to that almost-career ending performance of “Gimme More.” I mean, VMA and Britney go hand in hand.

It would be laughable if the Grammy’s honored her, because he contribution to music is not as much as others. But VMA isn’t about music. It’s about pop culture. Britney is pop culture.

I’ve seen reports that there will be a tribute, but Lady Gaga, Madonna, Katy Perry, Janet Jackson will NOT be involved. The link you posted doesn’t seem to be that credible either.

Also, I LIKE Lady Gaga, but how will she pull off performing Circus? As much as she slays Britney in all other aspects(singing, song-writing, playing an instrument), Britney is a MUCH better dancer and Circus tribute should involve lots of Choreography.

As for the notion that these women are “divas”, LOL. A diva can sing. These women like Britney are fakes who couldn’t sing their way out of a paper bag.

If you’re going to kid yourselves, go ahead and do it. Just don’t impose it on others.

Why is this here? I know other gay blogs have fallen over themselves praising this bland pop-star, but why Queerty? If you are going to give publicity to careers based on sex appeal, bring back more Morning Goods.

@Beyonka: Ummm, no. That’s just something Beyonce and her stans tell themselves to get to sleep at night. There’s only one Queen B, and that’s Britney. By the way, don’t come into a site that has nothing to do with Beyonce and start telling people who’s called what. It’s tacky, rude, and shows you are insecure about your fave’s status. #Sit

@christopher di spirito: Really? That’s all you can come up with? You really think that’s what she sounds like when she’s not been dancing her ass off and isn’t out of breath? Bitch, you’re dismissed. And don’t diss people from the south, at least we have class (which I’m guessing isn’t something they teach wherever the hell it is you’re from).

i think it’s sweet. britney’s had a really awful few years and she’s back in kinda-sorta-top form now, so it makes sense that the VMAs would give her a sort of ‘welcome back’ tribute.

Why exactly is there a tribute to someone who is still alive and who also can’t sing and barely can dance anymore? They shouldn’t be holding tribute to someone who lip synchs her way through an entire concert tour.

Madonna is currently recording a new album, and has a major film set to premiere at the Venice and Toronto film festival. She is not gonna be anywhere near this joke of a show and tribute. Does this site ever report any factual news??

Britney is a fake who lip syncs her way through much of her concert performances for which she charges hundreds of dollars. Her fans are either ignorant or they enjoy being ripped off.

Why is it so wrong that there is going to be a trubute for an amazing performer? I agree, she isn’t what she used to be, but it’s apparent that she is well known around the world. She’s been very successful… and whether people like it or not, she’s impacted the MTV audience and “musical” genre for over a decade. It’s not like she is the first performer to lip sync, nor is she the last. You gotta give credit, where it’s due. And it’s not so out of the ordinary that Madonna would be there to help the cause. Madonna isn’t a great singer, without MTV and music videos, she wouldn’t be so popular either… it’s the controversy, and the fact that she made a name for herself as a performer, and that’s what Britney did.
