Michigan Prisons Pay $100 Million ‘Cause They Let Lady Prisoners Get Raped

It took 10 years of legal back-and-forth, but the Michigan Department of Corrections is on the hook for $100 million, settling class action charges it allowed some 500 female inmates to be sexually abused. Wasn’t it just last year DOC Director Patricia Caruso was “oppos[ing] national standards being developed to address sexual abuse behind bars, stating that they would require that a ‘disproportionate amount of resources be dedicated to an issue that affects less than 1% of the DOC prison population’”? Why yes, it was.
