Why is President Obama’s announcement of same-sex partner benefits for federal workers such a big deal? Because there’s a hidden Easter Egg in there; Obama has gone beyond that little memo he signed in June granting health insurance to same-sex partners. This new memo grants “a wider range of benefits” including “access to medical treatment, relocation assistance, credit unions and fitness centers.” And also: “A review by the Office of Personnel Management and Justice Department determined that at least some agencies could also permit credit union and gym memberships and access to counseling services, adoption counseling, and agency events or outings.” Oh, you’re a member of the armed forces? Sorry, none of this applies to you.

Unfortunately your above statement that the memo he signed last June granted health insurance benefits to same sex partners is not accurate. Believe me, I work for the Federal Government and my partner and I are domestic partners and he is still not eligible to be included in my health insurance benefits. He will not be eleigible until the Federal Employees Domestic Partners Benefits and Obligations Ace is passed or DOMA is repealed.

Read http://www.dailykos.com/story/2010/6/3/9365/22716 for a more accurate account of what happened: “One year after he declared the first LGBT Pride Month, President Obama issued an order on Wednesday requiring agencies of the executive branch to extend a number of federal benefits to employees’ same-sex partners. This comes after he issued a memorandum last year extending some federal benefits to same-sex partners of federal employees and requiring that executive-branch agencies review other benefits that could be offered under existing federal law. With the new order, executive-branch agencies will now be required to extend child-care services and subsidies to children of same-sex couples. Other benefits include credit union access, relocation benefits, and more flexible family leave to take care of same-sex partners. In addition, some intelligence and financial regulatory agencies will be able to reimburse for health insurance premiums, business travel accident insurance, and dental and vision insurance.”
Also, Obama commented that “While this Memorandum is an important step on the path to equality, my Administration continues to be prevented by existing Federal law from providing same-sex domestic partners with the full range of benefits enjoyed by heterosexual married couples. That is why, today, I renew my call for swift passage of an important piece of legislation pending in both Houses of Congress the Domestic Partnership Benefits and Obligations Act. This legislation, championed by Senators Joe Lieberman and Susan Collins and Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin, would extend to the same-sex domestic partners of Federal employees the full range of benefits currently enjoyed by Federal employees’ opposite-sex spouses. I look forward to signing it into law.”

Credit Unions… this self described “fierce advocate” is embarrassing.

All of you trying to somehow turn this into a negative are pathetic. I’m so over you bitter queens… SMH. I agree that Obama hasn’t been the “fiercest” advocate but you all don’t want to give him any credit at all. Something tells me that if McCain/Palin would’ve won or for that matter any other Republican, we’d all be saying that we wish we had a President that would do what Obama has done. RECOGNIZE THE FUCKING PROGRESS AND BUILD FROM IT!!!! Don’t tear it down!

@Mark: Wow. Obama does more for gays than any prior President and you, with your laser-like wit, only focus on credit unions.
If this is the hue and cry that single dimensional-minded gays stage over Obama – I can only guess what the rainbow cacophony would have sounded like had McCain and Palin prevailed. Perhaps the masochistic element among us are wistful about what could have been.

Curiously 5 people (so far) gave it a negative rating in spite of the whole comment consisting purely of two relevant quotes from a standard, somewhat liberal, news source providing purely factual information. It’s very obvious that QUEERTY’s rating system is not working – it responds to people with an agenda of suppressing the facts, and we’ll lose to the bigots if we go around with our heads in the sand ignoring facts that various people don’t want to hear.

@Bill Perdue: You forgot to blame the black community for prop 8’s passage! That’s the standard line.
Bill Perdue
@whatever: I was attacking the idea that Blacks defeated us in California the very morning the vote was announced at Bilerico, Pam’s Blend and here. It’s all on the net. The defeat came because the bigot you adore, Obama, mobilized and galvanized the mainly Eruoamerican roman catholic, moron and southern baptist (like those from Rick Warrens sty) vote. Obama led them and they defeated us.
Blacks are far too small a vote in California to have tipped the scales, That was Obama and his religious suporters.
Tell me, whatever, how does someone who pretends to be against war and racism support Obamas racist and genocidal wars for oil. And don’t babble on about how he inherited them. Bush2 inherited them from Clinton who inherited them from Bush1. ‘Inherited’ is not an excuse for genocide.
Next time before you spew your Obot lies check the facts.
B
No. 17 · Bill Perdue misstated the facts again by saying, “Blacks are far too small a vote in California to have tipped the scales, That was Obama and his religious suporters.”
The reality is that President Obama stated that he was opposed to Proposition Eight, but also that he was not personally comfortable with same-sex marriage, so you can’t blame Obama for Proposition Eight.
As to Blacks, a post-election statistical analysis ( http://www.ncsu.edu/stud_affairs/glbt/pdfs/Prop%208%20Report.pdf ) showed that religious views were the determining factor in how people voted, and that the relatively high Black vote in favor of Proposition Eight (58% of Blacks) simply reflected a higher level of religious belief among Blacks than among the population as a whole. Proposition Eight passed by 52% of the vote, and Blacks accounted for nearly 30% of that 2% margin in favor of Proposition Eight. That isn’t enough to “tip the scale”, but it is a pretty significant chunk of it.
Blaming Obama (who couldn’t even vote in this particular election) and ignoring the Black vote and the reason for it is a recipe for losing when (or if) a repeal is attempted. It’s important to note the reason for that vote in order to improve the cost effectiveness of campaign advertising and “outreach” for this particular demographic.

‘B’ also defends ‘dudes’ like these rightwing scum.
The question is not what percentage of 2% Blacks accounted for but what percentage of 52% they accounted for. Blacks are not responsible for the loss of same sex marriage in California, Obama and his Euroamerican sult supporters in the mormon, roman and southern baptist cults, are.
Secondarily, No and 8, HRC and EQCA share part of the blame for running a Eurocentic campaign, ignoring the fact that the majority in California is composed of Latinos, Aisan and Pacific Islanders and Blacks. They abandoned the field to christer bigots and the votes reflected it.
An examination of the California Field polls shows a direct correlation between Obama’s bigoted attacks on same sex marriage and the rights use of them and a big switch in the polls.
Attempts to blame our defeat in California on the Black vote are racist.
B
No. 21 · Bill Perdue lied some more by writing “‘B’ also defends ‘dudes’ like these rightwing scum.” and then showed his ignorance of statistics by writing, “The question is not what percentage of 2% Blacks accounted for but what percentage of 52% they accounted for.”
Wrong. It’s the excess over 50 percent for groups that voted in favor that is the interesting number because that gives the number of people whose minds you have to change. It’ll cost 10s of millions of dollars to repeal Proposition Eight via the initiative process, so if you want to win, you better use that money effectively. If you don’t, you end up having to spend more of your efforts on fund raising and less on influencing public opinion. You need to break it down by ethnicity and religion because your advertising/outreach material has to be tuned to each group for maximum effectiveness.
The facts are that Proposition 8 got 52 percent of the vote and Blacks (7 percent of the California population) voted for it by 58 percent. I clearly stated that the controlling factor was religion, with the higher percentage of black votes in favor simply reflecting a higher proportion of religious people compared to the California average.
Broken down by race/ethnicity, 49 percent of the White vote and 48 percent of the Asian vote was in favor of Proposition Eight. For African American and Latino/Hispanic, it was 58% and 59 percent respectively. So, for African Americans, 8% of their 7% population contributed roughly 0.6 percentage points for the excess over 50%, with Latino/Hispanic voters contributing the rest.
In terms of religion, the ones who voted heavily for Proposition Eight were those who attended religious services weekly In terms of political party, Republicans were 81% in favor, Democrats 30% in favor and Independents, 53% in favor. For political ideology, liberals were 22% in favor, moderates were 51 percent in favor, and conservatives were 82 percent in favor.
Blaming Obama is idiotic, and nobody was trying to blame Blacks – that is just something you made up.
Bill Perdue
The racist conspiracy theory promoted by Obots on the day after the election that attempted to transfer the blame for our defeat in California from Obama onto the African American community was long ago put to bed, but now ‘B’, who defends every bigot that comes down the pike, from Obama to Deker and Ashburn, is trying to revive it. ‘B’ tells us that the black anti-gay vote is ‘interesting’. That’s only true for apologists for bigots like ‘B’ or for racists who want to blame the loss on anyone but Obama.
For the rest of us it’s a sure sign that NO on 8, EQCA, California Democrats and others screwed up badly abandoning the field in all the minority communities to the christer bigots. In spite of the welcome opposition of trade unions, MALDEF and the NAACP to Prop 8, No on 8/EQCA did nothing to counter the massive, last minute radio, TV and print media blitz of Yes on 8. The Yes on 8 bigots focused on Obama’s rallying call for bigotry, ‘gawd’s in the mix’. No on 8/EQCA put the needs of the Obama campaign before the needs of the LGBT communities. Just like ‘B’.
It was only after Obama galvanized the bigot vote and after Yes on 8 drowned the state in a last minute campaign featuring Obama’s bigot-empowering message that the polls flipped and we lost.
Before the Yes on 8 media blitz featuring ‘gawd’s in the mix’ “Friday, October 31, 2008
PROP. 8 (SAME-SEX MARRIAGE BAN) DIVIDING 49% NO – 44% YES, WITH MANY VOTERS IN CONFLICT In its final pre-election survey, The Field Poll shows the No-side continuing to prevail over the Yes-side but by a narrower margin than previously. The poll, completed one week before the election, shows 49% of likely voters voting No, 44% on the Yes side and 7% undecided.
Prop. 8 trailed in The Field Poll’s initial measurement in July by nine points (51% No to 42% Yes) taken shortly after it qualified for the ballot.
The No-side advantage increased to fourteen points (52% to 38%) in September… and when … state Attorney General Jerry Brown changed Prop. 8’s official ballot title to the “Eliminates Right of Same-Sex Couples to Marry” initiative. When voters were read this amended description in September, the No-side lead grew to seventeen points (55% No vs. 38% Yes).”
Blaming Blacks or Latinos is racist. Blaming Obama and the Democrats is realistic.
B
No. 23 · Bill Perdue once again lied through his teeth by saying, “The racist conspiracy theory promoted by Obots on the day after the election that attempted to transfer the blame for our defeat in California from Obama onto the African American community was long ago put to bed, but now ‘B’, who defends every bigot …”
I wasn’t defending any bigot – Perdue is simply a bald-faced liar, possibly a pathological one given how much he lies.
He then lies with statistics by claiming that “Prop. 8 trailed in The Field Poll’s initial measurement in July by nine points (51% No to 42% Yes) taken shortly after it qualified for the ballot.” Reality – when I went to an anti-Proposition Eight fundraiser well before the election, the experts told us that their focus group studies showed that opposition to Proposition Eight was very shallow and that voters could be easily influenced by the pro-Proposition Eight side, depending on how they campaigned (which would, of course, include lies on their side). What the studies showed actually happened, and the “No on Eight” side simply didn’t get a cash infusion until it was too late. The “No on Eight” side told us they were in financial trouble well in advance. Unfortunately, enough people didn’t believe them until the polls changed.
Then Perdue states, “The No-side advantage increased to fourteen points (52% to 38%) in September,” without noting that the funding gap allowed the “Yes-side” to shoot ahead in October and at that point it was too late for the “No-side” to catch up in spite of an infusion of cash.
He then dissembles by saying, “Blaming Blacks or Latinos is racist. Blaming Obama and the Democrats is realistic.” The fact is that blaming Obama and the Democrats is idiotic and nobody in his right mind is blaming Blacks or Latinos (who voted heavily in favor of Proposition Eight merely because of a higher number of religious people in those groups, coupled with a lack of no-on-eight messages directed and tuned to them). When I went to a “post mortum” talk by a “No-on-eight” official group, they were very careful not to blame Blacks or Latinos, instead describing the demographics and statistics accurately (you need a multivariate analysis to see that race/ethnicity was not a significant major factor).
Finally, I’m not going to respond to each and every lie that Perdue slimeball puts out – there are simply too many of them.

In No. 25 · Bill Perdue, our resident liar, wrote, “Caught promoting and defending the racist lie that the Black vote on Prop 8 was a ‘signifigant chunk’ or a key factor in ending SSM in California, instead of Obama’s bigotry …”
Obama had nothing to do with it – he stated he opposed Proposition Eight but was personally not comfortable with same-sex marriages, thereby indicating that personal feelings/opinion should not control public policy.
As to the statistics, just read http://www.ncsu.edu/stud_affairs/glbt/pdfs/Prop%208%20Report.pdf which points out that Blacks (7 percent of the California population) voted 58% in favor of Proposition Eight (compared to just under 50% for Whites and Asians) primarily because of a higher percentage of religious people among Blacks. Of the 2% above the 50% cutoff point, slightly less than 30% of that is from the Black vote (multiply 0.07 by 0.08 and divide by 0.02). So, the numbers are just what I said, based on an academic web site for the data.
Perdue is so daft that he is really claiming that simple arithmetic is somehow “racist”. He apparently is too pigheaded to realize what those numbers imply – in a repeal effort, you just might want to tune some marketing messages that would reach religious Blacks. Unlike the Latino/Hispanic category, this demographic is not heavily Roman Catholic,so the messsaging has to be different. The sort of attitude Perdue has is a recipe for losing again – you don’t win an election by ignoring statistical data about the electorate.
Bill Perdue
‘B’, defender of self-loathing scum like Rekers and Ashburn, is also defending the racist notion that Blacks were key to our loss in California.
He also pretends that Obama is not the reason we lost.
He’s a liar. His ‘statistics’ are nothing new. Nor is his use of them to promote racism. Racism is one of the most intractable and virulent of America’s bigotries. ‘B’s use of twisted statistics is no different than that of racists like Herrnstein Murray, who’s book The Bell Curve in the mid 1990’s.
Racism is vile, and so are those who defend it.

Regarding Comment No 27: Bill Perdue disparaged a competently performed analysis of the Proposition 8 vote by claiming that the “use of twisted statistics is no different than that of racists like Herrnstein Murray”. The paper I cited (writen by Patrick J. Egan [New York University] and Kenneth Sherrill [Hunter College?CUNY]), can be found at http://www.ncsu.edu/stud_affairs/glbt/pdfs/Prop%208%20Report.pdf and starts with the following paragraph: “On November 4, 2008, California voters approved Proposition 8—which eliminated the right of same?sex couples to marry—by a 52 to 48 percent margin. In this study, we examine three questions about this result using a new survey of California voters as well as precinct?level election returns and demographic data. First, we explore the characteristics of voters that were associated with support for and opposition to Proposition 8. We find that voters’ party identification, ideology, religiosity and age had a much bigger impact on the vote than other voter characteristics. Second, we examine the African American vote for Proposition 8. We provide evidence showing that while African Americans supported Proposition 8 more than voters as a whole, they did not do so in the overwhelming numbers suggested by one exit poll. We show that black support for Proposition 8 can largely be explained by African Americans’ higher levels of religiosity—a characteristic strongly associated with opposition to same?sex marriage. Finally, we examine how Californians’ opinions have shifted dramatically toward support of marriage equality over the short time between the Knight Initiative in 2000 and now, and explore the implications of this change for the future.”
In a table listing voter characteristics and the impact of those characteristics on the outcome, “party identification” and “ideology” were at the top of the list, followed by “religiosity” and then “age”. The lowest three were “race/ethnicity”, “gender”, and “knowledge of gays/lesbians”.
So, these authors find that “race/ethnicity” had a relatively small impact on the outcome, but Bill Perdue thinks the results are somehow “racist”. One wonders if he even bothered to look a the article before commenting on it.

@B: I didn’t disparage anything. I attacked the racist notion in comment 18. Even with ‘B’s lying manipulation of the stats there is absolutly no proof that AA’s played a signifigant role in defeating ssm in California.

In No. 31 · Bill Perdue blatantly lied by saying “I didn’t disparage anything.” In No 27, he disparaged a legitimate post-election analysis preformed by researchers at Hunter College and CUNY by saying the “use of twisted statistics is no different than that of racists like Herrnstein Murray, who’s book The Bell Curve in the mid 1990’s.”
Then he lied some more by saying, “To claim that blacks swung the election is a racist lie. To try to weasel out of it when caught is cowardly,” … except I never claimed that blacks “swung” the election – the 58% black vote in favor of Proposition Eight (due primarily to factors that had nothing to do with race) accounted for just under 30% of the 2% margin over 50% that allowed Proposition Eight to pass. Earth to Perdue: 30% of a 2% margin is not enough to swing an election.
Meanwhile, as he rants about “racism” in an effort to get people to ignore the facts, he is really helping the homophobes. By attacking people who merely present factually accurate data, he’s trying to get everyone to keep their heads in the sand and ignore data that is critical for successfully running a campaign to repeal Proposition Eight.
With “friends” like Bill Perdue, gays do not need enemies. You’d almost think Perdue is a “Focus on the Family” double agent given how he is trying to help that group’s goals.

In No. 33, Bill Perdue lied again by saying, “I attacked the racist notion contained in comment 18.” In fact, if anyone is a racist it is Bill Perdue – he is blaming our first Black president for the outcome of a California vote on an initiative that the president had nothing to do with – he called the initiative divisive and then kept out of the state’s internal affairs, hardly surprising since he was in the middle of his own campaign.
Perdue seems to be objecting to data he for some reason doesn’t like and is simply making a fool of himself. Here’s the text he is pretending is objectionable regarding the African American vote on Proposition Eight: “As to Blacks, a post-election statistical analysis ( http://www.ncsu.edu/stud_affairs/glbt/pdfs/Prop%208%20Report.pdf ) showed that religious views were the determining factor in how people voted, and that the relatively high Black vote in favor of Proposition Eight (58% of Blacks) simply reflected a higher level of religious belief among Blacks than among the population as a whole.”
Only a complete idiot like Perdue would claim it is “racist” to point out that a larger fraction of African Americans go to church than the U.S. population average, and that being religious accounted for most of the additional 8% (the amount of the vote past 50%). It’s particularly idiotic given a citation to an impartial study of the vote, an analysis that will be very useful in determining campaign strategies for a repeal.
Bill Perdue
‘B’ just can’t stop lying and defending racists and self loathing scum like Rekers and Ashburn.

In No. 35 · Bill Perdue. following Goebbels, is trying the “big lie” technique by repeatedly accusing me of “lying and defending racists and self loathing scum like Rekers and Ashburn.”
When he says “here’s the racism”, Perdue didn’t even have enough integrity to properly quote what I had written. Furthermore, the fool apparently wants us to believe that a study commissioned by the Evelyn & Walter Haas, Jr. Fund in San Francisco and released under the auspices of the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force Policy Institute is “racist”. That’s a pretty good indication of what Bill Perdue is.
What I actually wrote (see No. 18) was, “As to Blacks, a post-election statistical analysis ( http://www.ncsu.edu/stud_affairs/glbt/pdfs/Prop%208%20Report.pdf ) showed that religious views were the determining factor in how people voted, and that the relatively high Black vote in favor of Proposition Eight (58% of Blacks) simply reflected a higher level of religious belief among Blacks than among the population as a whole. Proposition Eight passed by 52% of the vote, and Blacks accounted for nearly 30% of that 2% margin in favor of Proposition Eight. Perdue’s version: “Proposition Eight passed by 52% of the vote, and Blacks accounted for nearly 30% of that 2% margin in favor of Proposition Eight. That isn’t enough to “tip the scale”, but it is a pretty significant chunk of it.” By selective quoting, Perdue is hiding the fact that I clearly attributed the excess Black vote in favor of Proposition Eight to a higher percentage of religious people among Blacks, with all statements backed up by a citation to a high quality publication.
Perdue’s an idiot – what else to you call someone who screams “racism” when he is told the outcome of a vote? Ironically, the paper I cited discredited the claim in the NEP exit poll that Blacks voted 70% in favor of Proposition Eight, showing the actual number is about 58%, due primarily to Blacks being more religious that the population as a whole.
And the fool is still repeating his lies about Ashburn and Rekers.
Bill Perdue

In No 37. Bill Perdue continues his Goebbels imitation by first repeating his shameless lies while carefully ignoring the fact that he provided evidence consistent with the hypothesis that Bill Perdue is himself a racist – Perdue had blamed our first African American president Barak Obama for the passage of Proposition Eight, which happened before Obama was inaugurated. Perdue also ignores the fact that he is effectively calling a high-quality study “racist” when it was in fact commissioned by the Evelyn & Walter Haas, Jr. Fund in San Francisco and released under the auspices of the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force Policy Institute, neither of which support racism.
The rest of his “Here’s the racism” lie? What he is calling “racism” is the fact that 0.28 = (0.08)(0.07)/0.02, basic arithmetic! That puts him in the same moral league as those Catholic morons who persecuted Galileo (but in Perdue’s case, without the ability to actually have someone burned at the stake). Just look at http://www.ncsu.edu/stud_affairs/glbt/pdfs/Prop%208%20Report.pdf – 58% of Blacks voted for Proposition Eight (with religion, not race being the significant factor), Blacks make up 7% of California’s population, and Proposition Eight passed by getting 52 percent of the vote. Those are facts, and name calling by slime like Bill Perdue will not change those facts. Ignoring the facts, however, is a good way of ensuring that a campaign to repeal Proposition Eight fails.

As to Blacks, a post-election statistical analysis ( http://www.ncsu.edu/stud_affai…..Report.pdf ) showed that religious views were the determining factor in how people voted, and that the relatively high Black vote in favor of Proposition Eight (58% of Blacks) simply reflected a higher level of religious belief among Blacks than among the population as a whole. Proposition Eight passed by 52% of the vote, and Blacks accounted for nearly 30% of that 2% margin in favor of Proposition Eight. That isn’t enough to “tip the scale”, but it is a pretty significant chunk of it.”
The AA vote, if taken as a part of the 52% voting against us shows that “Blacks are far too small a vote in California to have tipped the scales, That was Obama and his religious supporters.” But if used selectively and unscientifically as a part of a much small amount, 2%, then becomes a prop for the racist notion that AA’s defeated SSM. ‘B’ expresses his racist idea saying … Blacks accounted for nearly 30% of that 2% margin in favor of Proposition Eight. No. 39 · Bill Perdue, a Goebbles wannabe, is repeating his lies incessantly, ignoring the fact that what he terms “racism” is in reality simply mathematics, and that it was Bill Perdue who accused an African American of causing Proposition Eight to pass when that particular African American, now our president, was not associated at all with the campaign to pass Proposition Eight (and had in fact said he did not support Proposition Eight).
Meanwhile, the facts the Perdue thinks “dare not speak its name” are that, primarily due to religious affiliations, Proposition Eight got 58% of the Black vote (8% over the 50% point), and that 8% contributed 28% of the 2% margin by which Proposition Eight passed (getting 52% of the vote). Those are facts.
With unwittingly or not, Bill Perdue is helping the bigots. To repeal Proposition Eight, we need to shift 2% of the electorate (using the 2008 election as a baseline). Not everyone’s opinion can be changed, and as you try to shift more individuals, it becomes progressively harder as after each success, the remainder contains those who are the most stubborn. A reasonable goal is to try to get each demographic group to be less than 50% in favor of Proposition Eight, which is why the excess for each group over 50% is the interesting number.
We know that those who attended religious services weekly voted 70% in favor of Proposition Eight and that the relatively high African American vote in favor of Proposition Eight was primarily due to that group containing a higher than average number of religious individuals ( http://www.ncsu.edu/stud_affairs/glbt/pdfs/Prop%208%20Report.pdf ). While more research is needed, a reasonable first step is to find out the reason for the religious issues: the campaign in favor of Proposition Eight lied shamelessly claiming that churches would be forced to perform same-sex marriages. If that was a significant element for the denominations African Americans favor, then the obvious tactic is some outreach to the preachers: if you educate the preachers, then their opposition will be less and that translates into less pro-Proposition Eight votes, and the preachers get to talk to large numbers of people on a weekly basis. The Hispanic/Latino category differs in that the dominant religion is Roman Catholic (for historical reasons) and Roman Catholic priests cannot be usefully educated – they have to follow orders from the Vatican due to the top-down hierarchical managerial structure the Roman Catholic Church uses.
So, Bill Perdue, in his childish efforts to force his brain-dead ideological views on the rest of us, is really an enemy of LGBT rights – he is trying his hardest to suppress the truth, facts that have to be known if we are to have any chance of repealing Proposition Eight.
Bill Perdue
‘B’s putrid support for the racist notion that African Americans played any significant role in the defeat of SSM in California, and still denying his disgusting support for scum like Ashburn and Rekers is nwo using the lawyers weasel tactic of accusing his critics of being Goebbels like.

No. 41 · Bill Perdue, having absolutely nothing to contribute, is now reduced to repeating his previous lies a la Goebbel in the hope something will stick. He’s been totally discredited as any number of the comments above show.
He thinks basic arithmetic is “racist” or at least pretends to think that, and is lying through his teeth about what I said. He blames Obama (our first African American president) for the outcome of a California election that Obama had nothing to do with, yet he accuses others of “racism”. This moron is a real piece of work.
His behavior is anti-LGBT: if you don’t base decisions on how to use your resources effectively on the facts, you’ll waste resources, increasing the chances that a campaign to repeal Proposition Eight will fail. With “friends” like Bill Perdue, who needs enemies?

In No 43, Bill Perdue provides yet more evidence that he is a pathological liar as he repeats his idiotic statements about alleged racism”. Meanwhile, he totally papers over his “racist” belief that our first African American president, President Obama, is somehow responsible for Proposition Eight passing in spite of Obama staying out the that campaign, aside from a single comment calling Proposition Eight divisive.
What he labels as “racism” is simple arithmetic using data obtained in a carefully run poll that determined what happened. If we ignore that data, we will be at a disadvantage in a vote to repeal Proposition Eight because we’ll do a poor job of shifting public opinion.
Bill Perdue

In No 45, Bill Perdue again (following Goebbels) goes for the big lie technique, this time throwing in some BS about an alleged “backtrack”. The true is that I’ve made the same statements consistently as anyone reading the comments can see. And Perdue is still not owning up to his “racism” – he is not retracting his lie blaming our first African American president for Proposition Eight’s passage.
The statements that liar Bill Perdue calls “racism” are anything but racism. They are statements of facts, taken from a study of the Proposition Eight vote commissioned by the Evelyn & Walter Haas, Jr. Fund in San Francisco and released under the auspices of the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force Policy Institute, neither of which support racism. It was duly cited ( http://www.ncsu.edu/stud_affairs/glbt/pdfs/Prop%208%20Report.pdf ) and even funnier, the study showed that initial reports that 70% of African Americans voted in favor of Proposition Eight were false. Oddly, when someone posted that misstatement, Bill Perdue couldn’t have cared less – he was completely silent about it.
I might add that Perdue is consistently modifying the link to something that won’t work, whether due to incompetence or a desire to hide the truth. Then this liar claims I was “defending” Ashburn and Rekers. Calling Ashburn “ineffective” is not “defending him”. Neither is saying that he is no worse than the other Republicans. Nor is saying that a replacement would be as bad or worse given how “socially conservative” his district is. Pointing out how Internet searches work for QUEERTY’s edification (QUEERTY’s writers really botched it) is also not defending anyone either.
Bill Perdue

In No. 47, Gobbels wannabee Bill Perdue continues his lies about “racism” and “twisted statistics” to cover up his own racist statements (blaming our first African American president for Proposition Eight) and using the term “racist” to disparage a competent post-election study of the Proposition Eight vote commissioned by the Evelyn & Walter Haas, Jr. Fund in San Francisco and released under the auspices of the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force Policy Institute, neither of which support racism.
He even objects to the fact that 0.28 = ((0.08)(0.07))/(0.02), essentially pretending that this equation is “racist”. What a fool Bill Perdue is.
And he still can’t cite the correct link. He gives a broken one rather than the correct one ( http://www.ncsu.edu/stud_affairs/glbt/pdfs/Prop%208%20Report.pdf ).
The true racist here is Bill Perdue. Aside from going after our first African American president unfairly, he racism obviously prevents him from understanding that the relatively high African American vote in favor of Proposition Eight is an indication that the “no on eight” campaign did not have a good strategy for this particular group: the post-election data showed that religious affiliation was the primary factor, so there should have been campaign “messages” directed towards the leaders of predominantly Black churches, if only to emphasize that existing supreme court decisions protected them against having to perform same-sex marriage ceremonies when those were not consistent with their religious beliefs.
Fortunately, sensible people are paying attention to the data: Mark Leno, for instance, introduced legislation explicitly protecting churches from having to perform marriage ceremonies that violated religious beliefs. It’s really superfluous because of the court decisions, but it gives us a a law to point to which will help in a campaign to repeal of Proposition Eight.
Bill Perdue
‘B’ the racist continues to skew statistics to assert that “Proposition Eight passed by 52% of the vote, and Blacks accounted for nearly 30% of that 2% margin in favor of Proposition Eight. That isn’t enough to “tip the scale”, but it is a pretty significant chunk of it.”
And he continues to defend Obama’s bigoty in sabotaging SSM in California.

B
In No 49, Bill Perdue showed he is a fool (and a liar) by complaining about the observation that “Proposition Eight passed by 52% of the vote, and Blacks accounted for nearly 30% of that 2% margin in favor of Proposition Eight,” pretending it is racist.
What the Perdue does not understand is that the goal is to be able to repeal Proposition Eight at minimal cost. Perdue has the racist assumption for reasons described below. By contrast, I’m assuming that there is no intrinsic differences between racial/ethnic groups.
In any group, the cost of changing each additional person’s vote to one in your favor is an increasing function of the fraction that you already changed. Under those assumptions, the minimal cost to win occurs when the marginal costs (the cost of changing each additional vote in each demographic group) are identical. If you assume that there is no intrinsic difference between racial groups, then you win at the lowest cost when each such group casts the same vote (as a percentage of the group’s size) in your favor. If the other side gets 50% or more, you lose, so it is the marginal cost at the 50% point that you care about. Overall, we lost Prop 8 by a two percent margin. If we had run an optimal campaign, we would not have had lost the African American vote by 8%. We didn’t.
So, it is important to note that we lost the African American vote and by how much because that tells us one area where our side screwed up. That the 8% margin for the African American vote was primarily a result of a larger number of African Americans attending church regularly is a good indication of the sort of outreach we need to do: if the preachers feel we are a threat to their religious practices, they are going to bring that up weekly. The other side exploited that, hence all the lies about how churches would be forced to perform marriage ceremonies that went against their beliefs. And our side did not do enough to counter those lies. So we let the other side turn Black preachers into “Yes on Eight” propagandist by not convincing those preachers of the truth about what the law actually said.
That’s what the data show. Bill Perdue, to protect his fragile ego, is doing his best to also protect the “Yes on Eight” people by trying to squash facts that our side has to be aware of if we are going to win the next time this comes up for a vote. He’s too dumb to know it, but he in fact is the one with the racist viewpoint.
And as a Goebbels wannabe, Bill Perdue is repeating his discredited lies about Asburn and Rekers, neither of whom were “defended”.
Bill Perdue
‘B’, caught defending racism and being an apologist for self loathing scum like Asburn and Rekers is going off the deep end. He continues to defend his racist statement that “Proposition Eight passed by 52% of the vote, and Blacks accounted for nearly 30% of that 2% margin in favor of Proposition Eight. Bill Perdue continues to be mind-numbingly boring, oddly obsessed with B, and scathingly racist.
Bill Perdue
@Jesse Helms: Jesse Helms and ‘B’ enjoy several things in common. A low attention span, defending racism and self-loathing scum and a perfectly understandable desire to be anonomyous.
B
No. 51 and No 53· Bill Perdue continues his Goebbels imitation by repeating his lies ad infinitum. Maybe he is trying to deflect attention from how racist his statements are such as blaming our first African American president for Proposition Eight when the facts are that Obama said he was opposed to it, calling it divisive, and McCain said he supported it. Other than a couple of sentences, both ignored it for the rest of the campaign.
Stating statistical facts is not “racism” no matter what idiots like Bill Perdue imagine or pretend to imagine, but if we ignore those statistics, any effort to repeal Proposition Eight (if it is not invalidated by the courts) will be less effective than it could be.
Bill Perdue’s obsession with Ashburn and Rekers is really funny as all of them share so much in common – each has been as “reality challenged” as the other. It’s probably why Perdue hates the other two so much – by analogy with a gay bashing closet case who acts out in a futile effort to keep his own sexuality repressed.
Bill Perdue
‘B’ continues to promote that racist view that “Proposition Eight passed by 52% of the vote, and Blacks accounted for nearly 30% of that 2% margin in favor of Proposition Eight. That isn’t enough to “tip the scale”, but it is a pretty significant chunk of it.”
And he continues to defend Obama’s bigoty in sabotaging SSM in California.

I’d strong urge Perdue to get some professional help for his emotional problems.

‘B’ won’t stop promoting the racist view that “Proposition Eight passed by 52% of the vote, and Blacks accounted for nearly 30% of that 2% margin in favor of Proposition Eight. That isn’t enough to “tip the scale”, but it is a pretty significant chunk of it.”

B
In No 57, Bill Perdue again writes a whole series of lies, pretending a study of the Proposition Eight vote ( http://www.ncsu.edu/stud_affairs/glbt/pdfs/Prop%208%20Report.pdf ) is somehow “racist” even though it was commissioned by the Evelyn & Walter Haas, Jr. Fund in San Francisco and released under the auspices of the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force Policy Institute, neither of which support racism. Perdue lies about our first African American president, blaming him for Proposition Eight, which our president had nothing to do with and that predated his election. Perdue is lying about Rekers and Ashburn, pretending (for example, that calling Ashburn “ineffective” is somehow “defending” him).
One can only surmise that Perdue does not like the fact that Ashburn did hardly any damage to gay rights due to him merely voting like nearly every other Republican and otherwise keeping a very low profile (unlike Pete Knight, who actively pushed Proposition 22, the predecessor to Proposition Eight). Would Bill Perdue have been happier if Ashburn had been effective at opposing gay rights?
Bill Perdue
‘B’ can’t stop defending the racist manipulation of statistics in his claim that -“Proposition Eight passed by 52% of the vote, and Blacks accounted for nearly 30% of that 2% margin in favor of Proposition Eight. That isn’t enough to “tip the scale”, but it is a pretty significant chunk of it.” – and claiming that Obama and the Euroamerican christer right weren’t responsible for the loss of same sex marriage in California.
Nor will he stop defending self loathing scum like Rekers and Ashburn. Self loathing scum flock together. ‘B’ is beyond despicable.
B
In No 59, Bill Perdue, lying like Goebbels, puts out one misleading/false statement after another. He rants about “the racist manipulation of statistics” because he doesn’t like hearing that 0.28 = (0.7)(0.8)/(0.02): The 8 percent margin in favor of Proposition Eight from the Black vote (Blacks make up 7% of California’s population) is 28 percent of the 2 percent by which Proposition Eight passed. That is simply a fact, one that suggests that the “No on Eight” side did a suboptimal job of running its campaign. Why is it that Bill Perdue doesn’t want people to know that? Does he want a repeal effort to fail?
Then he lies about President Obama (who basically stayed out of the Proposition Eight campaign as he was running for president at the time). Then he makes up some crap about “Euroamerican christer right” when in fact I stated that people who attended religious services weekly voted 70% in favor of Proposition Eight, and that includes all racial groups. Curiously, Whites and Asians voted against Proposition Eight by a slim margin (about a percent), whereas Blacks and Hispanics voted in favor by 58% and 59% respectively. Download http://www.ncsu.edu/stud_affairs/glbt/pdfs/Prop%208%20Report.pdf to see all the numbers. That report indicates that the excess Black and Hispanic vote in favor of Proposition Eight was due primarily to a higher than average fraction of church goers in that group – when you control for religion, all the racial groups come out similarly.
Then Bill Perdue continues stating his lies about Rekers and Ashburn (nope – never supported them. I called Ashburn ineffective and merely pointed out where people were jumping
to conclusions about precisely how Rekers contacted the rentboy).
Bill Perdue
‘B’ won’t stop lying. Likely he can’t. He continues defending his racist manipulation of statistics claiming that “Proposition Eight passed by 52% of the vote, and Blacks accounted for nearly 30% of that 2% margin in favor of Proposition Eight. That isn’t enough to “tip the scale”, but it is a pretty significant chunk of it.” Despite overwhelming polling evidence to the contray ‘B’ continunes to deny that that Obama and the Euroamerican christer right weren’t responsible for the loss of same sex marriage in California.
And he still defends self loathing scum like Rekers and Ashburn. Self loathing scum flock together. ‘B’ is beyond despicable.
B
In No 61, Bill Perdue continues his bald-faced lies, apparently thinking that QUEERTY readers are stupid enough to believe his
“theory” that the equation 0.28 = (0.08)(0.07)/(0.02) is “racist”. Perdue simply doesn’t like the facts (or alternatively is such a pigheaded moron that he can’t understand what I actually said.)
Then he lies about Obama (Obama basically stayed out of the Proposition Eight campaign) and lies about what I said (I never made any claims about a “Euroamerican christer right.”)
Then he lies about what I said about Rekers and Ashburn, pretending that calling Ashburn ineffective is somehow defending him”, and pointing out flaws in arguments about Rekers (e.g., the claim that because Rekers seemed to be lifting bags at the end of his trip meant he was lying about needing help with his luggage – it is not uncommon after minor surgery to be told to avoid yanking on things for a week or so to make sure the stitches don’t pull out, so he might have been fine at the end put not able to lift anything at the start.)
Bill Perdue
‘B’ still lies. He can’t stop it. If he did he’d have to admit teh his manipulation of statistics was in aid of the racist theory that African Americans were a big part of our defeat in California.
Here’s the racism. “Proposition Eight passed by 52% of the vote, and Blacks accounted for nearly 30% of that 2% margin in favor of Proposition Eight. In No. 63 · Bill Perdue, our resident Goebbels imitator, shows us a classic case of projection as he accuses others of lying to cover up his own lies. Like Goebbels, Perdue repeats his lies incessantly in the hope that QUEERTY readers are dumb enough to believe him.
For those who want the facts, look at http://www.ncsu.edu/stud_affairs/glbt/pdfs/Prop%208%20Report.pdf and note where the work was done and who funded it. It will be obvious that Perdue is lying – he has a fit when he hears anything he doesn’t believe, much like the most rabid fundamentalist Christian.
Bill Perdue

‘B’ desperately needs help.

In No. 65 · Bill Perdue, Goebbels wannabe, continues his stupid lies, claiming that 0.28 = (0.7)(0.8)/(0.02) is somehow “racist”, and simply doesn’t like the facts being pointed out. You can find those facts at http://www.ncsu.edu/stud_affairs/glbt/pdfs/Prop%208%20Report.pdf in a study of the Prop Eight vote commissioned by the Evelyn & Walter Haas, Jr. Fund in San Francisco and released under the auspices of the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force Policy Institute, neither of which support racism.
Then he throws in a new lie about “religous backwardness” and repeats his silly lies regarding Ashburn and Rekers. What a liar, and no doubt a pathological one given his obsessive repetition of his lies.
Bill Perdue
Sorry, little ‘B’. Those lies of yours won’t cut it. You’re just going to have to get used to people arguing with. At Queerty we have leftists, centrists like Obots and Republicans and even a few rightists like ‘B’. When it comes to politics people rarely agree and when a Roy Cohn wannabe like ‘B’ gets involved it gets downright nasty.
‘B’s defends other rightists the way any slick lawyer does, by deflecting the discussion. He doesn’t say that rightwing self-loathing christer bigot Rekers is a good guy. He defends Rekers with a feint; playing church lady, ‘B’ identifies sex worker Jo-Vanni Roman as a ‘rent boy’ and then insinuates that Jo-Vanni was lying. Anything to get his client off the hook. Of the 7 people commenting on this thread 5 tell ‘B’ to stfu in various ways and one has nothing to say. Not everyone appreciates a right wing lawyer in the mold of Roy Cohn. http://www.queerty.com/george-alan-rekers-was-ready-to-give-jo-vanni-roman-5-stars-on-yelp-20100514/
In the discussions about rightwing, self loathing ‘homosexual’ California Senator Ashburn ‘B’ claims that “I couldn’t find one anti-LGBT bill that he introduced, and none of the votes were close enough that one person would make a difference in the outcome. He didn’t make homophobic statements either as far as I know.”
‘B’s defense is like saying that since this closeted bigot didn’t set puppies on fire and didn’t actually bomb any gay bars or have publicity shots taken with Ahmadinejad at hangings in Iran that somehow Ashburn’s harmless. “… as far as I know.”
Ashburn’s votes against us were not harmless. They empowered bigots. The right wing politics that he upheld, like the incessant hate speech of the cults (another downtrodden lot ‘B’ defends) are the direct cause of harassment, discrimination and violence. Especially against GLBT youth.
‘B’ is getting worse. Commenting on Prop 8 he uses a particularly ugly racist manipulation of statistics to pretend that African Americans played a big role in defeating same sex marriage in California. Instead of examining the real weight of anti-SSM votes among Blacks, which was negligible among the total of 52% who voted for Prop 8 by comparing it to just 2%.
Here’s B’s racist view: “Proposition Eight passed by 52% of the vote, and Blacks accounted for nearly 30% of that 2% margin in favor of Proposition Eight. That isn’t enough to “tip the scale”, but it is a pretty significant chunk of it.” He likes to quote an NLGTF report on this question but that report says “According to this survey, blacks’ support for the ballot measure was much lower than reported by Election Day exit polls” the exact opposite of ‘B’s rancid racist claim that the Black vote was a “pretty significant chunk of it.”

No. 67 · Bill Perdue, Goebbels wannabe, is continuing his outrageous lies, proving that he is either a baldfaced liar or a complete and utter idiot. Let’s just look a couple of Perdue’s lies in No 67.
First: “‘B’ identifies sex worker Jo-Vanni Roman as a ‘rent boy’ and then insinuates that Jo-Vanni was lying.” Completely mispresentation. First, the guy in question had an account on rentboy.com, so it is reasonable to refer to him as a rentboy (when I used the term, it was actually to protect him by *not* using his real name). Second, I never accused him of lying, but rather of most likely not understanding how the web works. He assumed that Rekers must have used rentboy.com to get in touch. In reality, while that is one possibility, there are others as well – someone could have had a link to the rentboy’s contact page and send that link to Rekers or Rekers could have found a link to that page on another site. A test showed that Google can find contact pages on rentboy.com and you don’t have to go through rentboy’s home page and “agree/disagree” question to get there.
Second, Perdue objects to the facts regarding Ashburn: “I couldn’t find one anti-LGBT bill that he introduced, and none of the votes were close enough that one person would make a difference in the outcome. He didn’t make homophobic statements either as far as I know.” That simply means that Ashburn was pretty ineffective at opposing LGBT rights. It doesn’t make him a nice guy, but it also doesn’t make him “public enemy number one”. He wasn’t another Pete Knight (the guy who drafted Proposition 22). Pointing that out is not “defending” Ashburn. It is rather like saying “Don’t act like you just convicted Al Capone when in fact you caught Louie the Lug screwing up while trying to cheat at cards in a low-stakes poker game.” Perdue is so stupid that he can’t see the obvious – we should be grateful that Ashburn was so closeted that he did next to nothing to harm gay rights: his votes didn’t change any outcomes and he otherwise seems to have kept his mouth shut as much as possible. Would Perdue prefer to have had him be “Pete Knight the Second” and to have done some real damage?
Then this moron Bill Perdue lies about the statistics (ignoring the fact that it is the marginal rates that are important for planning a repeal campaign, something he is simply too stupid to grasp), and lies some more by claiming “He likes to quote an NLGTF report on this question but that report says ‘According to this survey, blacks’ support for the ballot measure was much lower than reported by Election Day exit polls’ the exact opposite of ‘B’s rancid racist claim that the Black vote was a ‘pretty significant chunk of it.'” The report pointed out that the actual Black vote was 58% in favor of Proposition Eight (the number I used), whereas the exit polls in question put it at 70%. Also, the term “pretty significant chunk of it” was a statement that the 8% margin in the Black vote (the part over 50%) was a significant chunk of the margin in favor of Proposition Eight, giving a numerical value. The margin by which Blacks voted in favor of Proposition Eight contributed about 28% of the overall 2 percent margin. That is simply a fact, because 0.28 = (0.08)(0.07)/(0.02). Furthermore, I attributed the excess Black vote to there being more religious people among Blacks, which the report I quoted stated. Read
http://www.ncsu.edu/stud_affairs/glbt/pdfs/Prop%208%20Report.pdf for details.
Perdue must want efforts to repeal Proposition Eight to fail: if you optimize your campaign to the minimal cost for influencing voters, you will reach a point where the cost of convincing one more person from each ethnic group is identical.
Perdue lies and lies and the only reason for his lies is his personal grudge. He is truly beneath contempt – a man without an ounce of integrity.

Tedious and lackluster describe the newest lies from ‘B’, wannabe Roy Cohn, trying to do the impossible – excuse his outrageous anti-LGBT rightwing politics.
Commenting on Prop 8 he uses his ugly racist manipulation of statistics to pretend that African Americans played a big role in defeating same sex marriage in California.

In No. 69 · Bill Perdue, Goebbels wannabe and now officially a cyberstalker, is posting essentially the same lies on two separate threads. Read http://www.queerty.com/did-olson-boies-just-secure-the-death-of-prop-8-20100617/#comment-316055 and you’ll find identical wording. The sort of obsessive behavior Perdue is exhibiting is bordering on that seen in people with mental illnesses (but I’ll refrain from an “official” diagnosis due to not being a physician or psychiatrist).

These pissant actions by Obama are chump change from the bigot who sabotaged same sex marriage in California with ‘gawd’s in the mix’.
It’s a measure of their bankruptcy that Obots whimper and stain their shorts over these tiny concessions.
