Though out PA Rep. Brian Sims is no longer running for Congress, his place in our hearts is secured with some fierce advocacy for medical marijuana.
Speaking on the floor in support of the legalization of medical marijuana for prescription in PA, he laid the smackdown on his opposition and made us a bit sad that we won’t see him seeking a more national stage anytime soon.
Seriously.
He takes down the haters:
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
“I’m disturbed by a lot of what I’m hearing from the opposition. Made up statistics about the deaths that medical marijuana has not caused and co-opting tragedies and accidents that had nothing to do with medicinal marijuana to somehow justify not giving the medicine to kids.”
And puts patient suffering in context for those who simply don’t get it:
“We’re not able to cure or treat every illness, but we’re able to create an opportunity for roughly 225,000 Pennsylvanians to improve the quality of their life. As legislators we cannot deny patients the possibility to alleviate some of this suffering. A suffering that few of us could understand.”

I wished I lived a little south of where I do so I could vote for him.

Finally a real Representative of the people, and he happens to be gay! More power to him. Perhaps he will become the first out and proud President.

Don’t be fooled, he’s your typical politician who puts himself first and who only cares about himself. If he were really serious about herb he would say to completely legalize it in Pennsylvania.

Mmm, I’d smoke that.

@Stached1:
Amazingly enough, not everyone wants marijuana to be legalised. I’m fine with the legislation as is.
What you really mean to say is ‘He’s another politician who doesn’t fully represent my own ideals.’…?
Compared to most other politicians, who do seem interested in money, power, influence, control and ego, there is nothing about Sims that demonstrates that. He seems to have the right ideas, he seems to listen to his constituents, and is a bit self deprecating.
I only wish he did run for congress. He is one of the few good guys in politics!

@Stached1: Only 18 states so far have medical marijuana so that’s a good place to start. Actually there is a legalization proposal bouncing around the PA legislature and Sims may or may not be on record in support of that too (do you know for sure he’s against it, or are you just making stuff up?). This mini-article just doesn’t go into that.

thank you. granted i am from michgan we already have it. but knowing the effects of 1 of my family who had 2 types of cancer. i would gladly have goe to jail to ease her sufering.

@trell: @onthemark: Cannabis should be fully legalized like alcohol is. It’s too bad Sims won’t actually support full legalization in Pennsylvania and instead goes for the softer “medicinal” use of it. Sims is a one trick pony, and is interested in money and power.

The bottom line scientifically is that MJ can cause serious problems in most non-adult brains (fact), so it would need to be kept very seriously away from folks until they are older. MJ has some very seriously excellent benefits as a medicinal for adults, though it is likely to have some deleterious long term effects (that are usually a lot less severe than positive effects, but are significant nonetheless). Considering how incredibly poor that pain management in the US has become because physicians don’t want to have anything to do with prescribing anything that’s possibly addictive (shame on them), I’d be fine with legalizing MJ by prescription for specific medical needs.

As one who consumes cannabis regularly, I’d like to see it legalized everywhere, or at least decriminalized. Medical should be available to all, including children.

Wow. Good for him. I can see him going far in politics.
