San Francisco Mourns The Death Of Beloved Drag Queen Cookie Dough

Screen-Shot-2015-01-23-at-5.59.25-PMShortly after making the journey back to her home of San Francisco follwing a serious illness in Mexico, beloved drag queen Cookie Dough has died.

She was in Puerto Vallarta to perform in her all-drag version of The Golden Girls — she played Sophia, and hilariously we might add — when she complained of feeling ill and was eventually admitted to a local hospital.

That’s where things took a turn for the worst, and amid reports of brain-swelling, cardiac arrest and meningitis, she fell into a coma.

Her friends and family raised thousands of dollars to get her back to SF to be near her husband Michael and receive more personalized care, but shortly after arriving she couldn’t continue fighting. She was 52.

She will be dearly remembered for her long-standing weekly Cookie Dough Monster Show in San Francisco, and for her uniquely quirky upbeat persona.

Here she is as Sophia in a 2011 episode of The Drag Show alongside co-star Heklina:

Cookie Dough, Ed, where ever you are — thank you for being a friend.
