Simply Vile…

There’s a new Biblically-minded ex-gay group on the block, theFormers, who offer this somewhat contradictory definition of homosexuality: “Homosexuality is a most complex thing. It’s doubtful that anyone really has a handle on it. We believe it is a form of brokenness that has its roots in early development, but is also influenced by individual temperament, the culture and each person’s coping skills. It is a byproduct of our fallen, sinful state, most of all.” [theFormers]

Clearly, The Formers don’t think that forming a cogent thought is of any value.

To prove their point they’re producing a movie starring Track (II) Palin and Ralph Reed called Brokenness Backdoor Mountin’.

I have not fallen. I think these guys may have suffered a severe blow to the head, however.

Of course attacking purveyors of such nonsense turns them into martyrs, and we supply them with fodder for their financial support, being godless homosexuals and all.

The tragedy, of course, is the ruining of lives of glbt individuals, still closeted in fear, that are trapped in religious dogma. Having come out of such a setting, it’s been important to me support efforts that let “family” know there are places of safety where they can integrate spirituality and sexuality, and be whole. All our are in free!

“It’s doubtful that anyone really has a handle on it”…but here’s what it is.

They pretty much announce they have it wrong in their mission statement!

I actually went to the website, and while I disagree with them completely, it is a beacon of tolerance and enlightenment compared to Focus on the Family, Jimmy Swaggart etc.

Tolerant in comparison to FoF and Swaggart…So they are a benign tumor instead of a malignant one. I almost wonder though if this kind of rhetoric isn’t just as destructive emotionally. It doesn’t call for us to be killed, but it does claim that we are all “broken” for loving the wrong people. That’s emotional violence, all the same. Even my ex-gay brother wouldn’t be so audacious as to make such a claim. Feh.

Trenton – what can I say to make it more clear than “I disagree with them completely?”

I didn’t mean to imply that you didn’t completely disagree, Jaroslaw, nor was I finding fault. I just didn’t want to even give them an inch.

Ultimately Trent, you’re right. I have had many discussions with these people over the years and while some want to save you and others want to kill you, all the nice words exchanged doesn’t change their right wing minds one particle. You’re still a sinner.

Before coming out of the closet, I actually tried the “reparitive” therapy through NARTH to de-gay me (thanks to religion and my family). After months of shelling out $100 per hour to simply complain about my parents, I asked my clearly gay therapist when this would start working, and that I was tired of complaining. His answer was that it would NEVER go away, that I would always be gay.

When I realized that, I came out of the closet and started living a happy life.
