Good thing John McCain doesn't have to worry about John Hagee anymore. Or does he? Yet another blast from Hagee's preacher past has been unearthed and this one's even worse than the others. In a tape from 2003, Hagee asserts that the anti-Christ will be both gay and at least "partially" Jewish. This creates problems for McCain-backing Joe Lieberman, a Jew who's scheduled to speak at Hagee's Christians United For Israel. [HuffPo]

John McCain encountered more preacher problems last night.

The drama started in the afternoon, when the Republican presidential hopeful denounced Pastor John Hagee, whose comments about Hitler performing "God's will" broke the camel's back.

Mere hours later McCain found himself ousting yet another unholy man, Rod Parsley, who described Islam as "anti-Christ." McCain very cleverly used the repudiation to mention that he never really accepted Parsley, anyway:

I believe there is no place for that kind of dialogue in America, and I believe that even though he endorsed me, and I didn't endorse him, the fact is that I repudiate such talk, and I reject his endorsement.

Things were all well and good when Parsley and Hagee were taking on the homos, of course.

First John Hagee came for the Catholics. And John McCain did nothing.

Then the pastor went after the gays. Again, Republican presidential hopeful McCain did nothing.

Then Hagee said that Adolf Hitler and his Nazi henchmen were performing God's will. And that's when John McCain did something.

What will we do with John McCain?

It seems the Senator will say anything to woo conservatives, many of whom worry you're too - gasp! - liberal for the presidency. Today the Republican vowed to take on the dreaded "activist judge." You know, the ones who rule in favor of the flamers…

» Real Rich.

Journo Frank Rich wonders why the media hasn't paid more attention to John McCain's absolutely insane, anti-gay preacher pal, John Hagee: "Mr. McCain says he does not endorse any of Mr. Hagee’s calumnies, any more than Barack Obama endorses Mr. Wright’s. But those who try to give Mr. McCain a pass for his embrace of a problematic preacher have a thin case. It boils down to this: Mr. McCain was not a parishioner for 20 years at Mr. Hagee’s church. That defense implies, incorrectly, that Mr. McCain was a passive recipient of this bigot’s endorsement. In fact, by his own account, Mr. McCain sought out Mr. Hagee…" [NY Times]

John McCain-backing pastor John Hagee may have "retracted" his "gays caused Katrina" comments, but he's got a whole slew of other offensibles.

Here are two of our favorites from a totally frightful top ten:

"The military will have difficultly recruiting healthy and strong heterosexuals for combat purposes. Why? Fighting in combat with a man in your fox hole that has AIDS or is HIV positive is double jeopardy."

"It is impossible to call yourself a Christian and defend homosexuality. There is no justification or acceptance of homosexuality…. Homosexuality means the death of society because homosexuals can recruit, but they cannot reproduce."

Let it be known that McCain has not denounced Hagee.

» "Retraction."

John McCain-supporting pastor John Hagee last week "retracted" his oft-repeated assertion: gays caused Katrina. Writes Hagee: "…Ultimately neither I nor any other person can know the mind of God concerning Hurricane Katrina. I should not have suggested otherwise." That's not so much a retraction as a "I'm backing off for my candidate's sake." Weak. [LA Times via Towleroad]

John McCain, you suck.

Not only are a majority of your Attorney General supporters notoriously anti-gay, but you refuse to distance yourself from anti-gay, anti-Catholic pastor John Hagee.

Fine, we get it, you've got no character, but to dismiss outrage over Hagee's wacky theories on Katrina - God was punishing gay loving New Orleans - as "nonsense." Well, that's just shitty. And, what's worse, you attempt to change the subject by bringing up Reverend Jeremiah Wright.

Ug, you disgust us.

QUEERTY REPORTS: You judge a man by the company he keeps. Particularly when they're gunning for the White House. We're speaking, of course, about John McCain, the Republican candidate whose two references today speak volumes about the candidate.

The most recent concerned John Hagee, the pastor McCain courted and who also happens to believe God sent Hurricane Katrina to punish gay-loving New Orleans. Wacko, right. The other mention came via professor Christopher Latimer, who reminded readers that while McCain may be relatively liberal on the gays when compared to his party peers, his political appointees may not be like-minded.

We were intrigued by this point, so we took a look at McCain's supporters and narrowed in on the Attorney Generals who have backed his presidency. And we don't like what we found.

John Hagee should learn to keep his trap shut.

The Pastor and John McCain supporter continues to publicly blame Hurricane Katrina on the gays. There was to be "massive homosexual rally there" on the Monday following the storm. God punished that sinful rally by taking out the town all Biblical style, says Hagee.

Hagee maintained that position yesterday while chatting with Texas-based radio host Dennis Prager:

PRAGER: Right, but in the case, did NPR get, is this quote correct though that in the case of New Orleans you do feel it was sin?

HAGEE: In the case of New Orleans, their plan to have that homosexual rally was sin. But it never happened. The rally never happened.

PRAGER: No, I understand.

HAGEE: It was scheduled that Monday.

PRAGER: No, I’m only trying to understand that in the case of New Orleans, you do feel that God’s hand was in it because of a sinful city?

HAGEE: That it was a city that was planning a sinful conduct, yes.

Oy…

Are John McCain's political sins coming back to haunt him?

Controversial Evangelical preacher man John Hagee says in this Sunday's New York Times that the Republican candidate asked for his support. Normally this wouldn't be a big deal, but Hagee's allegedly anti-Catholic comments caused quite a stir earlier this month, leading many Catholic advocates to call for his head. McCain's refused to denounce Hagee.

In addition to spilling the beans on McCain's courting, Hagee also claims that his church, which condemns the queers, isn't "hard" on the homos. From Editor & Publisher:

Interviewed by Deborah Solomon, Hagee refused to discuss his statement that Hurricane Katrina was God's punishment for a gay rights parade in New Orleans, calling it "so far off-base." He claims, "Our church is not hard against the gay people. Our church teaches what the bible teaches, that it is not a righteous lifestyle. But of course we must love even sinners."

Well, isn't that generous?
