John McCain-supporting pastor John Hagee last week “retracted” his oft-repeated assertion: gays caused Katrina. Writes Hagee: “…Ultimately neither I nor any other person can know the mind of God concerning Hurricane Katrina. I should not have suggested otherwise.” That’s not so much a retraction as a “I’m backing off for my candidate’s sake.” Weak. [LA Times via Towleroad]

That’s not really a retraction, so much as a re-positioning of the same statement. Unless it’s way out of context, he doesn’t say that he believes (and belief, to these droolers, is fundamental) that homos weren’t on god’s mind when he smote Nawlins, he doesn’t say that he believes that homos shouldn’t be vilified, or that god is love and love doesn’t hate, or anything of the sort. He just says he can’t KNOW the mind of god; that doesn’t mean he can’t have an opinion on the subject.
He’s an ignorant, self-serving snakeoil salesman, and as such fits right in in McCainLand.

An NRR (non-retraction retraction), and a pretty half-assed one at that.
And then he goes on to say that his NRR is a total and complete LIE made entirely for the sake of his political candidate.
