My theory as to why the perpetually miserable left insists on attacking the family members of an elected official they dislike is this: You have no legitimate gripe with them, so you’ve abandoned arguments of policy in favor of personal attacks and name-calling . . . much like my classmates would do in the second grade (and very much UNlike how conservatives treated the Obamas, regardless of how hideous their family members were).

I would agree with you UNLESS the family is part of the campaign or administration — or propped up by the administration to be something s/he is not (aka used as a willing prop). As such, I’d agree that Barron and Melania’s parents should be off limits. Everyone else is fair game. Melania was made out to be this super-intellect (“she speaks 5 languages” and lying about her speechwriting and having a college degree) and successful supermodel (my friends in fashion had never heard of her before becoming Mrs. Trump). And c’mon, she’s basically asking for ridicule, given the hypocrisy of choosing cyberbullying as her platform.
