You better watch your backs, boys:
A drug-resistant strain of potentially deadly bacteria has moved beyond the borders of U.S. hospitals and is being transmitted among gay men during sex, researchers said on Monday.
They said methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, or MRSA, is beginning to appear outside hospitals in San Francisco, Boston, New York and Los Angeles.
Sexually active gay men in San Francisco are 13 times more likely to be infected than their heterosexual neighbors, the researchers reported in the Annals of Internal Medicine.
Infections are also reportedly on the rise in Boston. One scientist says that if MRSA spreads to the “general population” it will be “unstoppable”.
Great – another disease that can be blamed on the gays!!

This has been known about in LGB medical organizations for awhile

These are from 2003.
It is only now getting talked about, I just hope people do not panic and do not vilify gay men like what happened with HIV/AIDS in the eighties.

Also I think staph news has a better article on it.

anyone here STILL want to defend bathhouses and sex clubs and say how WONDERFUL they are for gay men?
The fact is that there is scientific PROOF these commercial venues are extremely efficient at spreading disease by its very nature and is… more efficient than internet hookups. The excuse that “anonymous sex will go ‘underground’ unless we keep bathhouses is so pathetic and bears no relationship to science. This stupid attitude sustains a disease prone culture that is in danger of permanently stigmatizing gay men as spreaders of disease and death.
WE MUST MOVE ON, GROW UP AND REALIZE SOME CULTURAL NORMS ARE DISASTROUS. THEY CANNOT BE ACCEPTED unless you dont care if each generation of gay men spreads a new disease around…
WE can do SO MUCH BETTER.

Be careful guys. I had it (though not through sexual relations) a few years ago, and had a ball in my leg for six months and had half my sac removed. I survived though but only because I had a decent doctor who didn’t misdiagnose.
I’m not going to preach against sex. But if you feel increasing levels of pain on your sac, dick, knee or elbow — get to a doctor immediately. The longer you wait the greater chance of death.
