Ellen DeGeneres + Joel Burns Join The The Homos In Wearing Purple

GLAAD is circulating a release trumpeting the success of Spirit Day, where everyone is encouraged to wear purple to raise awareness about LGBT bullying and suicides. Lots of people are participating in today’s fashion Olympics, relays the org, including the hosts of The View and The Talk (as if these two panels of ladies weren’t similar enough); Ryan Seacrest, some Kardashian, and the E! network’s website (purple headlines!); Darren Hayes, Wilson Cruz, Chely Wright, and Ilene Chaiken (purple-izing their Facebook and Twitter photos); and “Kathie Lee + Hoda on Good Morning America” (though I’m pretty sure they are Today show anchors, not ABC employees). Oh, and Ellen DeGeneres, who welcomed Ft. Worth Councilman Joel Burns (and his mama) on the show today, where he shares that he tried committing suicide.

    what’s this purple stuff? man, I just heard of this. Either I’m not listening to the news enough or this really wasn’t publicized enough.

    @scott ny’er:

    Yeah, this is the first I’m hearing about it too.

    If I owned anything purple I’d join in…But I don’t :\

    I’ll participate in spirit.

  • Shouldn't certain gay sites & their commenters stop bullying gays too? ( John from England)

    @James Davis:

    He can’t! What if he did this with blacks or Women? It would be too divisive!

    Most of the purple-wearers are frauds who are jumping on the bandwagon. Where were they before this bullying news hit the media? Promoting themselves in this industry called Whore Inc, I’m sure.

    Ellen de Generes has done virtually nothing for gay rights. She rode the “lesbians are hot” gravy train to stardom, leaving most of us gay and bisexual men in the dust. Buzz off, de Generes.
