let's get physical

Fitness influencer asks “what’s your reason for exercising?” & gays share their hilariously honest answers

“Why do you even lift, bro?”

For many in our community, gym culture is gay culture. Even more so than our hetero comrades, the gym is a nexus for our lives—it’s where we socialize, it’s where we flirt, it’s where we take shirtless selfies to post to our Close Friends…

But, if we’re being honest with ourselves, what is it that compels us to actually, you know, exercise?

That’s the question engineer and fitness influencer Chris Meyer asked this week on Twitter X with a post that’s gone viral to the tune of over 1.6 million views.

As Meyer would have us believe, he’s simply doing it for his mental health—”to clear my mind and reduce stress”—and we guess that six-pack he’s sporting is just a byproduct of self-care.

Look, the dude’s ripped! And we’re certainly not complaining about him showing off the bod. But this could’ve been a classic case of “just post your thirst trap and go.” Instead, the photo coupled with such an earnest question-and-answer prompt has inspired Gay Twitter™ to chime in with the most hilariously honest responses.

So, do you want to know the real reasons so many gays choose to stay fit? We’ll just take a look at the quote-tweets on Meyer’s post…

No beating around the bush here—most just want to look hot as hell. You know, for reasons!

For others, it’s less about feeling hot and desirable themselves, and more about feeling like they have to conform to the largely unrealistic fitness standards our culture upholds:

Meanwhile, there are those of us who just want to stay ready—whether that be for vengeance or just general end-of-times preparedness:

Look, we all have our reasons… some of them are just a bit more specific and absurd than others!

We don’t really know what Meyer expected when he posed the question to the internet, but we’re sure it wasn’t all of that.

In the end, we all win, because it’s sure made for a hilarious couple of days on X—and now we can all appreciate how good Meyer looks when he’s clearing his mind and reducing stress!
