Frank Ocean kicks off his own queer club night: PrEP+

Out-queer musician Frank Ocean will launch his own queer-themed club night tonight in New York City.

Entitled “PrEP+,” Ocean’s club night envisions a 1980s LGBTQ community not decimated by AIDS. The name, of course, comes from the popular sexual health regimen that involves routine STD testing and daily use of the drug Truvada, which prevents transmission of HIV.

According to a statement, the evening pays “homage to what could have been of the 1980s’ NYC club scene if the drug…. had been invented in that era.” Tickets for the club night have been distributed via a secret mailing list, and the venue remains unknown.

Grammy-winner Ocean is considered something of a pioneer in the R&B world, having come out as queer in 2012.
