In Italy, where an openly gay priest is something of a miracle in itself, Don Mario Bonfanti took National Coming Out Day to heart, writing on his Facebook, “I am gay. Or, better, I am a happily gay priest.”
According to Gay Star News, Bonfanti was banned from another parish in Brianza last March for supporting same-sex unions, despite garnering support from the local people.
Now based in Pagnano, a Facebook group has sprung up in the wake of the priest’s coming out, Io sto con don Mario (I support don Mario).
“Truth makes us free, so Jesus said. But, strangely, the Church denies this sentence. Catholic LGBT people must come out. They have to accept the truth.”

Good for you! I am very very very proud of you! It is not easy to be a priest and to be openly gay. You have my full kudos and my fully support! Congratulations on coming out, and best of luck!

Get a real job… you might as well be working for Chik Fil A, adorable or not.

Italy is not homophobic. Doesn’t surprise me. Male nudity goes way back in their culture and it’s celebrated as much or more as the female.
