This profile is part of a series of posts about young LGBTQ activists out to make change in the 2018 Queerties category Up & Coming.
Spencer Claus loves all things make-up. The out social media star quickly became so good at face painting that the teen artist enlisted the help of his parents for some modeling shots back in 2016.
The images–along with his parents’ very game attitude–attracted international notice. Since then, he’s built on his reputation, providing make-up tutorials to his 25,000 Instagram followers, and using his profile to attract attention to good causes.
Those, of course, include queer and trans rights, and for related social justice movements such as #BlackLivesMatter.
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
Spencer also likes to show off his singing voice and love for musical theatre, recording YouTube videos of himself performing some of his favorite tunes.
The future is bright, and not just because of the glitter eye shadow.
Vote for Spencer in the 2018 Queerty Awards here.

Well thank fuck it didn’t make this twink into an LGBT hero because he looks horrible in my opinion. Also, just putting on makeup doesn’t make you a hero no matter who you are.
Lacuevaman
sorry, hardly a queer hero.
maybe a queen heroine!
surreal33
Thank you, I will co-sign on that!!! There is NOTHING heroic about a privileged, snot-nosed, white boy playing with his mother’s make-up and pretending to be an activist. It’s totaling insulting to men and women who are sincerely trying to affect social change. The narrative that wearing makeup and or being a drag queen in 2018 is revolutionary, relevant or heroic it pathetic.
DCguy
I see Mo Bros new screename hasn’t wasted any time in getting out and attacking anybody feminine.
Danny595
An inspiration to failed men everywhere!
ChrisK
Why not just go full drag or just transition yourself? Offering make up advice to some young queen is not heroic.
Blackceo
White guys who recognize and understand intersectional issues always get a thumbs up from me because they are few and far between.
SiamSam
Yes, I can see a 4-way intersection of overindulgent parenting, rank narcissism, youthful ignorance and virtue signalling here.
miserylovedme24
A hero, really? How low is the bar?
SiamSam
Poor confused kid.
DCguy
My My My, So Mo Bro is sending in Multiple screenames on THIS post?!?!?
Lacuevaman
no doubt. watching too much rupaul and having the chris crocker gif autoplay on his phone. imagine having to raise that one!
tham
I don’t really understand how hash tagging became “activism”. It’s like the laziest, least thing that you could do….period.
DCguy
It’s interesting how upset people get over this guy wearing a little make-up. If, as the trolls say, people don’t like, or aren’t attracted to Fem guys, then where is their problem? Less competition for other guys if people are doing this right?
But that isn’t the issue, look we KNOW why the anti-lgbt trolls like SiamSam, Danny595 and Lacuevaman hate the guy, because there in here to attack any lgbt people in all of their incarnations.
As for me, not sure how it effects me or why it bugs anybody that this guy paints his face with about half as much makeup as your average Kardashian, and if he’s making money at it, well good for him.
mhoffman953
@DCguy
ChrisK made a negative comment as well. Is he an anti-lgbt troll too?
Lacuevaman
oh please…
underboy
queerty commenters depress me. there is more queer pride on an average fox news comment page than on queerty, which is to say, none. just pop over to the russell tovey husband article, there everyone has found what a “real” man and hero is: a bearded hunky cis white clone who looks like one million other guys. THOSE guys are the real gay heroes!
mhoffman953
How come so many commenters use ‘white’ as a negative descriptor?
underboy
@mhoffman953 – how come so many commenters use white as a key element to whom they consider hot?
underboy
neither bearded, hunky, cis NOR white are negatives, and oftentimes qualities of seriously hot men. my issue is that the majority think that is all it takes to be hot, or qualities that must be present in order to consider something hot. everyone not white is a “preference”, anyone a bit femme is a sad statement on our culture, an embarrassment to “heroic” gays, blah blah.
STONEWALL BOY
Personally I think fem boys are not only sexy but very brave. Where most gay men can pretend to be straight, boys who wear makeup or anything that makes them look fem or just gay tells me they are secure in who they are. So don’t be haters in is still part of our family.
Lacuevaman
you can have all mine
Polaro
The fact he is doing this and being widely followed shows how far we have come. He is interesting, but I can do without the nose ring – my personal opinion.
Heroic? No, I’ll agree that is a bridge too far; but he is interesting.
Lvng1Tor
Hysterical negative comments about someones worth or ability to create change from a bunch of bitter jagwads who hide behind anonymous profiles. Did anyone of you bother to check anything out that was said in the article or just judge based on your own insecurities and prejudice from your dark corner under a bridge?
Lacuevaman
welcome to queerty bitch first, accuse second, then agree with dcguy and crissk.
