Apparently, filming hot, sweaty gay sex scenes isn’t all that sexy. Who knew?
Queer As Folk turns 15 this year, and star Hal Sparks is doing a YouTube series called #QAFAQ where he answers burning questions about the show.
We promise, people still have burning questions about the show. Some guys are even still seeing it for the first time!
Check it out, and maybe you’ll believe him when he says that filming sex scenes with partners like super sexy Robert Gant wasn’t hot. Because we don’t.

Hoops in both ears? Really, Hal? He looks like 1991.
Kevin J Desmond
Who cares … I never liked him anyway.
Glücklich
@Kevin J Desmond:
Really.
Now more than ten years hence, fascination continues to mount! *I’m* on tenterhooks!
OrchidIslander
I wished he would get to the point. Too much time segueing onto another topic while not addressing the original question until later – much later.
Maybe it’s just me. All I wanted to know was what was it like simulating sex with an almost naked Robert Gant.
Is that too much to ask?
Dan Philip Rowlands-Barber
Wish it was labelled QAF US as UK was first. Very confusing ð??
Wahya73
@Masc Pride:
Oh look, a shallow comment.
Kieran
Hal Sparks…..made up porn name if I ever heard one.
fiveuses
@OrchidIslander: That’s just the way he is. If you’ve ever heard him on the radio, he’s basically a ferret with ADHD.

I can never get when people say they don’t like someone yet take the time to watch them or listen to them. If I didn’t like Hal Sparks I wouldn’t even waste my time wanting to hear from him and then let everyone know how they didn’t like the person. What is the point?
I think what Hal and company did for the community on shows that changed many straight peoples perspective should be appreciated. Many of my straight friends watch this show when it was on 15 years ago. I remember asking them why and they would say either they like the show because it was like no current show on TV at the time and many of the straight women like the sex scenes. For whatever reason these were the small steps needed to change peoples perspective. And I am happy Hal is still talking about the show. When there are still so many movies that find gay sex or gays in general as a punch line (Wyann Bros, Mel Brooks, et al) I am pleased that QAF still is being talk about.
Wilson W Wong
people that talk about stuff YEARS later….$$$
Gavin Fitch
I love QAF. I love Hal Sparks. But my goodness, that was a 9 minute answer that could have been explained in 2.
Carl McClanahan
Does anybody care ??
Sansacro
Queerty writer, did you even watch the vid? He doesn’t say anything about whether filming the scenes were sexy or not. He addresses whether or not they were physically or emotionally uncomfortable. And he says he had no emotional discomfort filming the scenes. Sounds plausible and cool to me.
Sweetie Pie
Cut the crap, Hal, and eventually I will watch
Sansacro
@Wahya73: Hal’s a cute guy, but he does look kinda ’90s. Lol
Sansacro
@Gavin Fitch: Ha. Thought the same thing.
Harlan Snyder
Put down the crack pipe!

I don’t like the show in general but man oh man did i love Hal Sparks as a teenager. I like how he admits that he’s a bit of exhibitionist and the nudity didn’t bother him. but i call b.s. on him having no problem with having a gay sex scene since he’s straight. I mean at least the first time he had to have some uncomfortable feelings. But then again, he knew this was part of the show since auditioning.
I agree with everyone else, he took way too long to answer this.
Mike_M
I really want to see the Pirates of Penzance now.
ProfessorMoriarty
Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah. I love Hal too, but I also agree that was a two minute answer in a nine minute suit. Besides, the important question that I think needs to be answered is “what skincare products do you use?” That man is 46 years old, but he sure doesn’t look it. Dayum.
robho3
I didn’t know Hal was a middle aged lesbian.
lykeitiz
He looks amazing, no different than 15 years ago, and for those complaining about his 90’s earrings, well, that’s the kind of hippie he’s always been off-camera, and for me, that’s part of his charm.
As for the babbling though, I’ve always wanted to spark one up with Sparks, but can you imagine listening to that while trying to enjoy your buzz?
JessPH
The who was great but this guy was a total miscast. He is a horrible actor.
Curtispsf
@lykeitiz: Yeah. Total buzz kill. I also like the post about him being a ferret with ADHD. QAF was a groundbreaking series. Do not under estimate the affect this series had on straight audiences.
JessPH
@JessPH: I mean the show was great.
ryantbo
ALL during QAF Sparks shouted as loud as he could that he was straight and as often as he could. He was a turn off then and is now
LadyL
@ryantbo: Thank you! I was beginning to think I was the only one here who remembered that. It was totally irritating and now, what, he wants to talk about the love scenes?
captainburrito
@OrchidIslander: I gave up before he even got to the point. I remembered old interviews with him and there are so many disclaimers and side stories that you already went to sleep before he got to his main point.
RenoDave
He just blithered on and on and never got to the point. C’mon, if the question is asked why not just answer it without all the BS
Sluggo2007
I enjoyed the show. However, it seems that the show did nothing for these guys’ careers. When’s the last time you saw any of them?
Mundo
@Dawson:
Bien dicho. I agree with you completely.
Gracias
ryantbo
@Sluggo2007: Robert Gant still does a bunch of work and Randy Harrison has done a TON of theater
John
@OrchidIslander: Yes, all thecstammering and time blah blah blah…Hal just cut to the chase
John
@Gavin Fitch: Exactly…of course we would have liked to have known “Did your willy ever move?” Iuh oh, I think it moved/jumped or popped in that 12 seconds before the next take (or did Bobby Gant’s?) lol
notcisjustmale
I enjoyed QAF and I enjoyed Hal and his character. But this? Someone likes to hear himself talk.
