Social conservatives can be so over dramatic! Anti-gay group Save California equates issuing gay marriage licenses to killing Jews: “Ask your county clerk if they were a Nazi officer during WWII and had been ordered to gas the Jews, would they? At the Nuremberg trials, they would have been convicted of murder for following this immoral order.” In what universe does two men or women marrying resemble piles of dead bodies? Seriously, these people must have shit for brains. [Save California via Slog]

Heh. We didn’t need any more proof that these people are completely unhinged, but it’s nice to add another snippet, even so.

I don’t even want to Google “Gays” and “Hitler” as I don’t want to see how many listings there are with these right-wing in-bred ugly Americans. Are we still looking for Osama?

WHOA! Let’s see what the ADL has to say about this cretinous trivialization of the shoach.

I’m so tired of the Nazi / Hitler reference coming up as the go-to analogy. Once you pay attention to it, you hear the lazy analogy twice a day it seems.

In every kind of situation too, social debate, philosophy, government press conferences, everywhere. Blech.

You know someone’s argument has irrevocably broken down when they start making Hitler comparisons. Unless their opponent is actually overseeing the widespread genocide of millions of people, then their claim (and all the arguments leading up to it) has been rendered false.

Ironically, I suspect the “Save California” people would have been on the front lines for gassing Jews and upholding slavery. They certainly aren’t on the side of basic human rights for all.

      Moar liek

“Ask your county clerk if they were a Nazi officer during WWII and had been ordered to gas the homosexuals, would they? At the Nuremberg trials, they would have been praised for purging the homeland of immorality.”

wow, what a great analogy, seeing as how the Nazis had it in for a couple of gays along with the jews. Nice one.

This is pretty disgusting. Even if you could draw some base comparison between these kinds of “civil disobedience” it’s clear that there’s a real values disconnect. On our issue, which side has the kind of disrespect for human dignity in common with the Nazis? Hmm, tough one…

“The number of homosexual men (non-military) convicted under Paragraph 175 and sent to prison were:

      835 in 1933
      948 in 1934
      about 3700 in 1935
      5321 in 1936
      8721 in 1937
      8115 in 1938
      7614 in 1939
      3773 in 1940
      3735 in 1941
      2678 in 1942
996 in the first quarter of 1943

There are no civilian records for the remainder of 1943, nor for the years 1944 and 1945. To this — a total of nearly 50,000 — should be added a significant proportion of the 56,000 people subjected to “sterilizaton.”
These very large numbers of convicted homosexual civilians suggest a much higher figure for the front lines — where most of the men were — and the concentration camps (for which there are few records).
On annual days of mourning for the victims, few countries officially mourn for homosexuals. To the survivor’s comment that “one day they were simply gone” we might add “and today are all but forgotten.”

Sadly that’s the case in the U.S where only the Jews are equated with Nazi persecution.
And as so this type of rhetoric can go largely unchallenged.

That comparison is so lame. That comparison is just like when Jeffery Dahmer ate all those people and the cops came but opted not to investigate. It’s very similar to that.

Hanna Arendt addressed a similar problem of what we see with these monsters in her “Eichmann in Jerusalem . . Report on the Banality of Evil” the “only one characteristic one could detect, . . it was not stpidity but a curious, guite authentic inability to to think”

You can see with these people the same inability to construct logically coherant thoughts. This is part of the reason why we hear the frequent comparisons to Hitler and Fascism in all of the by products of Bush and neoconservative thought. This is only one aspect and a dangerous one that has arisen in America, in the same way that an irrational worship of Aryanism took place. There are a number of similarities to occur e.g. extreme nationalism, hatred of marginal groups, conscroiption of the press etc. one organisation, has pointed out 14 similarities.
