Meet Rufus Gifford.
The 45-year-old was just has been named deputy campaign manager for Joe Biden’s 2020 presidential campaign.
Gifford previously served as the U.S. ambassador to Denmark during President Obama’s second term and was one of seven openly gay ambassadors who served under the Obama administration.

As deputy campaign manager focused on finance, external outreach and coalition building, Gifford is charged with focusing on the intersections between finance, policy and political work and occasionally serving as a Biden spokesperson, campaign officials told the Blade.
Gifford had endorsed Biden in the Democratic Party and prior to the Iowa caucuses when several contenders were still in the race. Since that time, Gifford has also served media surrogate for the presidential hopeful.
During his time as ambassador, Gifford was the subject of a Danish documentary series called Jeg er Ambassadøren fra Amerika (I Am the Ambassador From America), for which he won Denmark’s equivalent of an Emmy and became somewhat of a celebrity in Denmark, along with his husband, veterinarian Stephen DeVincent, who he married in 2015.
Before his ambassadorship, Gifford raised millions of dollars as a campaign fundraiser for Obama’s 2008 and 2012 presidential campaigns. He also served as finance chair for the Democratic National Committee and was staffer on John Kerry’s 2004 presidential campaign.
Gifford will start his new job with Biden on Monday. Yesterday, he took to social media to post about his excitement and to share a picture of Stephen.

@Wicked Dickie What is the difference that bothers you? Are you worried the dog might confuse your peen for Pup-Peroni or Milk-Bone? Lots of dog owners shower with their dog when it’s needed. It’s more efficient and some dogs are easy to bathe this way.

Also, I don’t have a dog. Never have. Nor have I ever showered with one. I’m a cat guy. And no, I have never showered with any of my cats in my lifetime. Not because I think it’s gross but because if you’ve ever tried to bathe a cat, especially one with “razors” for claws, you’d probably understand how dangerous it can be.
If you think showering with your dog is gross, fine. Your life. Your opinion. However, when you make that opinion on a public forum you open yourself up to it being questioned or challenged. That’s all people were doing. Some wanting to know why you think it’s gross and others opining that they don’t agree. At the end of the day I couldn’t give two shites about what your opinion is.

Let’s see: 25+ women have accused the Bleach Bum Dumpster of assault or rape. One accused of him of raping her when she was 13. He allegedly was in the company of Jeffrey Epstein. Another is waiting for Don the Con’s DNA to confirm that he raped and then came on her dress, which she saved, decades ago. Yet another still has a suit underway. He has a trendy and active looking Insta, but none of those picture make Joe Biden a more progressive candidate, or less prone to sticking his foot directly in his mouth every time he talks. I have serious concerns that Joe Biden is slipping mentally. We’ll be replacing one dotard for another, and that’s only if we’re lucky.
Democrats love to squander perfect opportunities. I don’t put it past DJT to eke out a win because Democrats decided to extinguish the excitement on the left in favor of a candidate who was so uninspiring that every Democrat under the sun thought they had a shot at the presidency after they saw his campaign in action.
I’m the furthest thing from a Trump supporter, and I actually really liked Joe Biden up until recently. He also forced Obama to come out in favor of marriage equality, and I will always love him for that! But his candidacy has been a disaster: No Malarkey bus; nibbling on his wife’s fingers on stage; publicly challenging reporters to push-up contests. The guy is a wildcard, and we don’t need another wildcard president.
The only comfort is that Biden can be handled. His campaign has been able to successfully keep him from doing public appearances, even pre-lockdowns. They also seem to be able to get him to perform reasonably well over Skype, even though he comes off a bit creepy in interviews now. So Biden can be contained and won’t feel the need to stress the nation on an hourly basis.

Barack Obama supported same-sex marriage when he was an Illinois State Senator. I.e., before he became the junior US Senator from Illinois or the President of the United States for eight years. When he became President–or rather, in order to become President and get reelected, he took that conservative approach that placated more conservative Democratic voters. Biden also voted for the Defense of Marriage Act in 1996. His alleged public support for marriage equality in 2012 did not influence Obama’s support for same-sex marriage and marriage equality as much the changing social and political climate, which gave them both cover to do so. But Obama had supported it nearly a decade before.
In terms of his politics, Joe Biden is essentially a moderate Democrat circa 1975-1980. He has tended to vote in the center or the right of the rest of the Democratic Party on every major issue since he took office, and his political instincts are terrible, save one instance: when he agreed to serve as Obama’s VP, which marked Biden’s best eight years in his entire political career. As President, he will probably be pulled to the left by circumstances, but he already has some horrible neoliberal ghouls (Chris Dodd, Larry Summers, etc.) around him, so while he will most certainly represent a major turnaround from the gross incompetence and destruction of Don the Con, the Democrats will also need to elect more progressives to Congress–and take back the Senate, which now seems increasingly doable–to push Biden further than his usual compromise-with-the-GOP compass usually reverts to.

The one which his own White House Communications Director Dan Pfeiffer said was fake and was filled out by somebody else. Or on David Axelrod’s “revelation” in his book that it was him who forced Obama into the closet (so to speak) over his alleged support?
