Major drama went down in Pete Buttigieg‘s kitchen this week. And we mean major.
Yesterday, the mayor of South Bend, Indiana and 2020 hopeful tweeted:
Doing a quick bit of laundry. Hear loud scream. Run into kitchen terrified, expecting to see @Chas10Buttigieg in pool of blood. Am thereupon informed that @Lin_Manuel is following my husband, whose life is now complete.
— Pete Buttigieg (@PeteButtigieg) March 27, 2019
He’s, of course, talking about Lin-Manuel Miranda, the man responsible for the Broadway phenomenon Hamilton.
Honestly, we’d probably freak out if he followed us, too.
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
So far, Pete’s tweet has received over 115K likes, nearly 8K retweets, and over 2K responses. Here are just a few of them…
I’m kinda more impressed about Mayor Pete doing laundry tho!

Your husband is quickly becoming a national treasure.
— JC (@herecomesjc) March 28, 2019
Think my primary vote’s about locked in…
— Steve Hall (@being_steve) March 27, 2019
I’m so happy for both of you. Maybe, he’ll get you tickets for Hamilton on Broadway! They’re hard to come by.
— Luke Hood (@LukeHoo30057500) March 27, 2019
So much to love in this tweet: a man doing laundry, a @Lin_Manuel shout-out, & the word “thereupon” used correctly. ??? #PeteforAmerica #alreadygotmyvote #southbendproud
— LeeAndra (@leeandra37) March 28, 2019
Do you think @realDonaldTrump has any cute stories like that?
— River Atkinson (@Riverjpeg) March 27, 2019
Wow, how’d he manage that?…I went to school with Lin, interviewed him a few times, have a crush on his dad and he still hasn’t followed me! ?
— Maria Santana (@MariaSantanaCNN) March 27, 2019
There needs to be a Married to the Mayor web series where @Chas10Buttigieg life gets flipped turned upside down when *surprise!* hes now the First Gentleman of the US.

And then there’s this response, which we would be absolutely remiss not to include. It was written by a sweet grandmother in Texas named Judi whose Twitter handle is @judiloveslife:
This is just the best tweet ever! Thanks for the great laugh tonight while I’m trying to tune out all the bad news of the day! Also wishing you the best success on your run for the presidency. This will be a very exciting campaign.
— Judi Mayer (@judiloveslife) March 28, 2019
Gor-don
If he’s elected, he will not be the first gay president of the U.S.! That honor is held by the late James Buchanan; the immediate predecessor of Abraham Lincoln!
Gay in Soulard
Amen! Absolutely!

Hey, I moderated your comment. You can express your happiness with Pete without demeaning other LGBTQ people. You’ve started a pattern by saying this across many posts, please keep it positive or we’ll have to revoke your comment privileges.
tennisguynyc
Hopefully the enlightened readers of this site will examine your comments and “thereupon” determine you to be ignomanious. Posting in hopes. :-))

Always curious why the Gay main stream has SUCH issues with other gay people who don’t think, act, say things that the PC gay main stream does. I know it’s hard to believe Scott G. but not every gay person likes Madonna, Cher, Lady Gaga, Bette Midler, shaved chests, drag queens or who likes to spend every social moment in the gym trying to turn back time. Scott G. just because someone does not like another gay person or disagrees with the fact that this gay gentlemen running for President is not his cup of tea. So what, I am a GAY person & I am totally Republican . So get over it. You must have a very luxurious life if all you have to do in life in scan other peoples messages who you don’t agree with & get their messages pulled. Grow up.
Crystix
EXACTLY! Not every gay man has taste. We can’t all be fabulous. Thats just statistics.

SNUGGLES: It’s NOT about “disagreeing” it’s trolls who have empty lives bringing toxicity to this site. Lately these slugs have been crawling out from under their Mother’s basement apartments and infecting this site. Sound familiar???
Scott is 100% correct in his actions .
Polaro
Hmmm, Plays Well With Others, the most toxic, negative things here are your posts.

To snuggles65 – Except for being “totally Republican”, I’m 100% with you on this. I don’t fit into ANY of the stereotypical “gay” behaviors myself. You’re certainly not alone in disliking many of the same things about “gay culture” that I do. I’m just a regular, ordinary guy who is basically invisible in a crowd. No one knows I’m gay unless they ask me. WE regular men can support Mayor Pete in our own way without necessarily “screaming” about Lin-Manuel Miranda, or Cher or Gaga. I’m pretty sure us regular gay men are the quiet majority in the LGBTQ world. I hope we will continue to have our voices heard on QUEERTY as well. So as long as we all do it respectfully, I think we can pull together as an LGBTQ community.
Music908
OMG, I’m jealous… and now I’m gonna follow @Chas10Buttigieg because @Lin_Manuel did.
Juanjo
Dear HerIAm – you cannot abuse your privilege to post here, any more than the rest of us. And frankly, if you do not like that then go elsewhere. Scott is not the thought police. You have every right to believe whatever you wish. But when you post here, you are subject to the same rules as anyone else. Liberal and tolerant does not mean you got to say or do whatever you wish without suffering repercussions.

The more I hear from Buttigieg, the more I think he has my vote. Now, I voted for Trump because I hate the Clintons. Buttigieg seems like a moderate and will not want to spend 96 trillion dollars to be 100% green while the rest of the world continues to use fossil fuels. That is like being the only person not smoking on an airplane and expecting clean air. Buttigieg will end up winning the primary. Joe and Bernie are just too old, Beto is an idiot that could not beat Ted, Elizabeth drinks too much beer and Kamala slept her way to the bottom, the rest of them do not have a chance.
Kangol
Buttigieg is actually very socially progressive, not a “moderate.” He’s not Bernie Sanders, but a more practical, younger, forward-thinking Democrat. I see that you’ve mischaracterized the Green New Deal and are slurring the other candidates, but hey, if your FoxNews version of things floats your boat, good for you. At any rate, if Buttigieg makes it to the primary in my state, I very well may vote for him. He’ll be 1,000 better than the incompetent racist, homophobe-enabling, ultra-corrupt abomination Drumpf. But then any of the Democrats running would be, as would William Weld, Mitt Romney or any other Republican who challenged Drumpf.
funpitt412
I do not get Fox news. No cable here.
Polaro
Now that the left has veered off into crazy town as a reaction to the right’s dance with fascism, I’m not sure what is moderate or liberal anymore. All I know is this guy makes sense. I’m waiting to make any choice, but he has my attention.
james7
Can you imagine a tweet from DT, that starts: “While i was doing laundry?” or “Melania was in the kitchen.” Mayor Pete and hubby appear to be normal humans that do normal things. Can’t make my mind imagine Donald doing laundry……
Mr-DJ
Your free speech is what you can put out on your OWN blog, or FB page, or web site. Queerty can make its own rules, and moderate how it sees fit, in keeping with tolerance and Progressive ideals.
Kangol
Buttigieg is the real deal as positive, forward-thinking progressive politicians go. I hope he can go far in the upcoming primary election too.

SCOTT GATZ:.
THANK YOU!!!!! We
Appreciate your effort in shutting down a trolls negativity It even admitted it posted a demeaning comment and it questions why comment was blocked It seems lately many of them have been slithering out from under their rocks to infest threads here…
Juanjo
Maybe Scott Gatz should take a look at your comments posted today on Colton Haynes’ struggle with alcohol abuse and moderate you there as well. Blaming an addict for his disease is really a classic troll move.
DCguy
Liking this guy so far. And his husband’s twitter account is killing it.
RoughRugger
Not to mention their doggos’ twitter lol

I hate to be that girl, but Mayor Pete is not viable in this cycle. We all know it. The sooner we let this go, the better off we will be. The president is historically unpopular; as long as the Democrats pick a mainstream nominee — they will likely win. The only way Trump wins is if we select a nominee outside the mainstream, or someone who can be easily labeled as outside the mainstream. Pete is 37, and Chasten is 29. Their youth alone is disqualifying. I realize that none of this is fair to them or to us, but politics is not fair.
Polaro
While I share your concern, I’m not so sure it rules him out. He’s ability to communicate clearly and smartly is so good it should at least show others how to be better.
enlightenone
So far, he is impressive to me and a real breath of fresh air! If his faith gives him spiritual strength (to go up against a snake with bone spurs) much like Mr. Obama, there is REASON to believe he could win the White House. Though the “deplorables” will sling their poop to muddy the waters along the way. Former Obama voters who are conscious enough to have felt the effects of this so-called “administration” will rise up from the ashes and vote with their brain this time and the younger generations will go to the polls to help move this country forward, out of “the swamp!”
Polaro
Oh, we’re back to censorship. That did not work out so well the last censor tried to force her politics on us. It is a slippery slope when you start censoring. Culling out derogatory statements is one thing. I’ll be curious to see. I left for months when that last woman tried to turn this into a non-binary site.
Polaro
I’ll admit to rolling my eyes when I heard some gay mayor from Indiana was running. Stunt, I thought to myself. Then I read some of his ideas and heard some of his thoughts and got really excited about his candidacy.
bridyyc
oh wow. This tool having his vile hatred cut off was the best thing to see all week! Yay, Queerty!

Since one thing former Indiana governor Mike Pence did before deciding he’d rather be King Donald the First’s court jester and personal foot-stool was to sign a bill allowing any business in our state the right to refuse service to LGBT customers, the existence and success of Mayor Pete has been a welcome and positive presence for we of the Rainbow Crowd here in the land of Hoosiers….even if he gets stomped in the election, we still win; Pete stays home with us, and we get to continue to enjoy the slap-in-the-face to Pence’s bigoted politics in Indiana USA…and ‘thank you’ to anyone here who plans to support and/or vote for our guy to advance into the Big League, lol….you are appreciated….!!!
