Miller beer ain’t feeling the leather daddies. The massive American brewery asked San Fransisco’s Folsom Street Fair to remove their sponsorship logo from the group’s controversial poster.
The move comes after Matt Barber and his Concerned Women for America balked over the San Francisco fair’s depiction of the last supper (above).
Joe of Joe.My.God fame passed along this statement from Miller:
While Miller has supported the Folsom Street Fair for several years, we take exception to the poster the organizing committee developed this year. We understand some individuals may find the imagery offensive and we have asked the organizers to remove our logo from the poster effective immediately.
Folsom organizers insist they never intended to piss off the Christians. Organizer Andy Copper says:
There was no intention to be particularly pro-religion or anti-religion with this poster; the image is intended only to be reminiscent of the ‘Last Supper’ painting. We hope that people will enjoy the artistry for what it is – nothing more or less. Many people choose to speculate on deeper meanings.
We call bullshit. We know how the gays think and we’re sure someone must have at least thought, “Damn, this is going to piss people off!” Still, we think the poster’s great. Fuck Miller, who drinks that piss anyway?
How about we take this to the next level?

I love the fact that they took the last supper and turned it “super”– super Leather, that is!
And an alcoholic beverage company is bowing to christian whims?? Baptists and Methodists aren’t supposed to drink anyway!

I think this was a big mistake. It only serves to inflame people who hold the Last Supper as precious. I guess it doesn’t surprise me how hated we are when I see stuff like this. It just widens the gap between us and them. And remember, there are Christians gays, too. I think Miller will be in serious trouble. Anyone remember when the Catholic did this and went up against Wal-Mart? Wal-Mart backed down. That is some power. I just hope it doesn’t hurt others. We are pretty protected in our little cocoon of San Francisco, but it is harder for others in other parts of the country. Just my humble opinion.

Miller is a business, and there are lots of uptight people looking to throw a tantrum. The poster was wonderful, very tongue-in-cheek humor (pardon the pun).
However that humor cost the community some good advertising $$$, as they are looking out to keep the drama out of their brew.
So I understand both sides… not that I like it either, but that is business.
