Arizona-based Alliance Defense Fund simply can’t mind their own business! After attempting to stay California’s gay marriage ruling, the right-wing, Bible-based group has now filed a lawsuit fighting New York Governor David Paterson’s push for same-sex recognition. [AP]

These groups almost make me embarrased to be Christian. Do they have anything else to do with their time (and money)?
Last I heard, nursing homes were woefully understaffed and underinspected, corporations are not paying taxes due to overseas phony headquarters, children in the inner cities languish in hell hole residences and poor schools, drug treatment centers are full to the gills and turn people away and the prisons turn out people that are worse than they went in. Just to name a few.
Yes, there are some Christian groups and others that try to work on these issues, but I can’t help but it sure seems sometimes that anti Gay marriage issue gets the lion’s share of the (Christian right’s) money. Anyone know if there have been any studies done on this?

Jaro, you took the words right out of my mouth on this one. I was just pondering the same thing the other day, as a matter of fact. When I heard a figure somewhere around 25 million being potentially thrown into the anti-gay marriage campaign, I wanted to vomit.

Fredo777 do you remember where you heard the 25mil figure?
fredo777
Jaro, don’t quote me on that, but I’m pretty sure that’s the figure I heard tossed out by these clowns. It might have been something I read here or was linked to from here, at least. Like I said, don’t quote me on it. I’ve read a lot of blogs + news articles over the past few weeks.
I’ll look into it, though.

Ah, update: the two sides (those for + against) have reportedly pledged a COMBINED figure of around 25 million. My mistake.
The Northwest Herald mentions it in the following article, among the first few paragraphs:

I’d check further sources, though.

From Reuters via Boston.com:
Protect Marriage Coalition – at least 10 million dollars expected to be spent on their campaign.

Eloquently put, Jaroslaw.
It’s sad that nowadays “religious” means “bigoted,” and “Christian” is on its way to becoming a dirty word among open-minded, informed people.
