Not everyone is haunted by a history of homophobic tweets, Kevin Hart. Tweets that T-Pain posted way back in 2013 have been making the rounds online, reminding us that he’s been repping his gay brethren for years.

Even better, the “Buy U a Drank” singer ranted about homophobia in hip-hop for six full minutes during a 2014 interview with VladTV.
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
“I don’t think urban music or anything is getting more gay-friendly. If that was the case, Frank Ocean would be on a lot more songs,” he said at the time, referencing Ocean’s Tumblr post disclosing his romantic feelings for a man.

“I know n—rs that will not do a song with Frank Ocean just because he gay, but they need him on the f—king song, and that’s so terrible to me, man,” T-Pain continued. “Like, he was on the Watch the Throne album before he came out, and then when he came out, it’s like he can’t get in the studio with Jay and Kanye right now. It’s so f—king terrible. … It’s in his f—king genes. It’s not a f—king choice. The man came out like that, and you can’t just f—king disown this man because he’s living a certain life that you don’t f—king approve of because somebody told you not to approve of it.”
T-Pain may not be a perfect ally — he occasionally slips into stereotypes and generalizations about gay men during that interview — but at least he was “someone on the right side of history,” to quote Gawker’s Rich Juzwiak, back before it was “cool.” T-Pain, we’ll buy U a drank.
Vince
Why would anyone want to do an album with Kanye West would be a better question.
Rock-N-RollHS
@ Vince.
because KW is a musical genius. And that’s not my opinion but the opinion of many musicians and top critics.
Vince
Rock-N-RollHS. Well he was a big supporter of the stable genius in the White House. Those geniuses really need to stick together.
Then again I could pull out twice as many top musicians that say the exact opposite. I get it though. You want to lick the narcissists ass and everything comes out of it is brilliant. 😉

Keep searching for that perfect Icon, Clarendon; I assume you are the perfect gay.
Brian
Right? We all know better than to do this with kids, I don’t know why so many people feel the need to do it with our allies. Just give props where they’re deserved, no need to follow them with a “but”.
Black Pegasus
Thanks for posting this. We need to be reminded that not all entertainers are knuckle dragging bigoted idiots.

I appreciate this post, particularly because for a change we get to see that yes, not all black straight people, let alone black rappers, are homophobes. I shouldn’t have to say that, but given the general discourse on this site, it, like this article, is necessary.
Blackceo
Shocked this site even posted something positive about a heterosexual Black rapper.
