Jim Carrey recently made headlines when he announced he was quitting acting while promoting his new film Sonic The Hedgehog 2.
“I’m retiring,” the 60-year-old told Access Hollywood. “I’m being fairly serious. It depends, if the angels bring some sort of script that’s written in gold ink that says to me that it’s going to be really important for people to see, I might continue down the road, but I’m taking a break.”
Carrey, who plays Dr. Robotnik in the new action-adventure comedy based on Sega’s video game franchise, added, “I really like my quiet life and I really like putting paint on canvas and I really love my spiritual life and I feel like, and this is something you might never hear another celebrity say as long as time exists, I have enough. I’ve done enough. I am enough.”
The thought of Carrey retiring from Hollywood got us reminiscing about some of his past movies, including the 2009 same-sex romantic comedy I Love You Phillip Morris.
Carrey played muscle daddy top Steven Jay Russell, the real-life con artist who fell in love with his fellow inmate, Phillip Morris (Ewan McGregor), and escaped from prison to be with him.
The film was adapted from the 2003 book I Love You Phillip Morris: A True Story of Life, Love, and Prison Breaks by Steve McVicker and contains a gay sex scene in which Carrey can be seen pounding actor Donovan Guidry from behind.
There wasn’t any actual nudity, but the language and, um, intense thrusting was certainly NSFW by 2009 standards. “I’m gonna c*m! I’m gonna c*m!” Carrey screamed. To which, Guidy replied: “Do it, man! C*m in my a**!”
I Love You Phillip Morris had trouble finding a U.S. distributor due to its explicit gay sexual content and needed to be re-edited before it was eventually given a limited theatrical release. It went on to gross $20 million at the box office.

He’ll continue to act. He’s not the greatest actor, but he’s a horrible artist.

Sorry cupcake that I cannot agree with you. Actually I am mot sorry. I think he is a brilliant artist. His portrayal of the Orange turd is spot on. He should stick to his painting.

‘I Love You, Phillip Morris,’ about a couple of gay con artists, is one of the most hysterically funny films I have ever seen! I laughed my ass off!!!

Erm. MUSCLE DADDY TOP? Were y’all watching the same movie I was? His character was fascinating, smart, slippery, etc but he was most definitely NOT a muscle daddy. C’mon Queerty, your observations are way off

The character/real person is a muscle top; Jim Carey, on the other hand, isn’t. But although his physique didn’t match the character’s body, Carey’s acting was pretty good.

This is my favorite Jim Carrey role after his numerous characters in In Living Color and as Lloyd Christmas in Dumb and Dumber.

Jim Carrey looks hot in this top clip.

The “bottom” was played by a bartendar at a restaurant in New Orleans frequented by the cast and crew while the film was being shot. He was a hottie.

I have to disagree with you on his acting abilities. I thought he was brilliant in the Truman show, and made a convincing joker in Batman forever.

I could pretty much take or leave Jim Carrey in general. But I thought he was perfect for and perfect in this film. There was that Carrey energy, but more bottled than usual, not so over-the-top. His acting was really good, including in the scenes in which he was screwing, kissing, snuggling, or pining after another guy. I respect that he took this role and that he played it without giving off any “This is icky” signals.
