Fresh off the critical success of her new film Queen & Slim, queer writer/actress Lena Waithe has captured the attention of Tinseltown yet again, this time for the first look at her new BET comedy series Twenties.
The series follows three women trying to capture their dreams in Hollywood. Androgynous lesbian Hattie (JoJo Gibbs), yearns to become a successful television writer, but can’t seem to hold down a job. She also has a knack for falling in love with straight women. Her friend Marie (Christina Elmore), a successful movie executive, offers to take in Hattie as she struggles with employment. Commiserating with the pair is their friend Nia (Gabrielle Graham), a would-be actress who works as a yoga instructor. Together, the three try to find happiness and meaning in their 20s in the coldest and most cutthroat cities in America, Los Angeles.
In addition to adding to Emmy-winner Waithe’s growing resume, Twenties will also mark the first-ever BET show to center on a queer female character.
Twenties will also feature Jennifer Lewis, Rick Fox, Seth Green and Vanessa Williams in recurring roles. The series will debut on BET early next year.

Looks good. Waithe’s series The Chi was very well done, if sometimes almost too tragedy-drenched to get through.

For once I agree with you, this does look good. Jennifer Lewis hopefully gets to show her acting skills without being someone’s mother and the guy from Greenleaf is in it too. Yes, I think I will set my DVR to it.
