Well this is uncomfortable.
Donald Trump has been president for roughly a few hours, and we’re already seeing the first sign of danger ahead.
It’s understandable that the new administration would revise the official White House web pages to reflect the positions of the incoming Commander in Chief, but some key pages have disappeared entirely.
Among them, the page dedicated to LGBT rights.
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
When the Obama administration created the page, it was used to showcase legislative/judicial achievements and policy updates affecting gay and transgender Americans. It also featured campaigns to combat suicide among young queer people, like “It Gets Better.”
Well, not any more.
Anyone trying to find the official LGBT White House page is now met with this lovely screen:
In fact, all mentions of the term “LGBT” have been scrubbed from the site entirely:
It doesn’t quite foster the same sense of inclusion as the old site, we must admit.
It’s possible the Trump team will replace the page with their own LGBT section in due time — after all, Trump has been lauded as the most “pro-gay” Republican nominee ever for president by groups like the Log Cabin Republicans.
But looking beyond Trump, whose positions, like his hair, seem to change with the breeze, it’s tough to find any encouragement that LGBTQ Americans will be high on the administration’s priorities list.
Related: 5 LGBTQ advances President Obama gave to us that even Trump can’t destroy
In related and equally worrying news, all mentions of climate change have also been removed from the site.
Welcome to our new reality, where we’ll have to fight even harder for justice and truth to prevail.

Not even an hour into the new presidency … Disgusting!!!

…and yet, I don’t see groups of protestors with torches and pitchforks roaming the streets hunting us down. Get a grip.

Who cares??? The economy stinks for most Americans, because of Obama, and you’re worried about a website.

We need to start calling our congress people now and address this!

How is calling our reps and sens going to do any good when 90% of the bastards/bastardas are Republican? Can’t hurt to try, I guess!
Heywood Jablowme
The LGBT page will be back on Monday but the only thing on it will be that photo of Trump holding hands with Peter Thiel.

How about ‘let’s all take a breath and see what is developing?’
For the last few months there has been an amazing amount of noise about how bad Pres. Trump will be; before he’s done anything material. Consequently everyone seems to be looking to couch any action in the worst possible light.
On this particular issue it’s my understanding that they are taking most of the existing page down and a new one developed by this administration will be put in its place. I was definitely not one of his big supporters, but he’s here now – let’s see if we can’t make the best of it.
FnameLname
“How about we take a deep breath and wait and see” ?????? were also the sentiments of many Jewish people as Hitler started sending people on trains to concentration camps all over Europe. So no lets not “give him a chance to prove himself” or “take a moment to breathe”. He (and his minions) have already shown their true colors. We have been around long enough to know that you have to act before the brick hits you in the head otherwise you wind up trying to make decisions while you are wounded and delusional. No we are not in threat of being hauled away to reform camps or being outed by our neighbors ….YET.
Truth-is-Truthy
I disagree primarily because Trump has already made his plans, ideas, and character clearly known to the world. Nobody is unclear about what the man believes, wants to do, or how his past behavior reflects on his current and future actions. His inaugural address today wasn’t a a call for inclusion and unity as I was hoping. It didn’t include any attempt to set people’s fears at ease. He repeated the lie that there is a massive national movement supporting him, and his address was pushy and confrontational with frightening undertones. Yes, on the surface some parts sounded nice and will play well in the mainstream press, but when you understand what the man actually believes in then his confrontational approach and choice of terminology shows exactly what we can expect. Just as a quick example: The first thing that popped in my head when he kept pushing the importance of patriotism was his statement during the campaign that people who burn the American flag should be jailed or deported. Obviously the right to burn the flag is constitutional and the Supreme Court made it clear that the government cannot pass any laws preventing it, but in the current climate when you have a temperamental POTUS who has such strong views he is able to motivate and encourage his supporters to act on their own. “Maybe we can’t put him in jail, but when patriotic Americans see what he did they’ll take care of the problem themselves”. Take that kind of attitude and behavior and apply it to LGBT rights, or gay marriage, or a women’s right to choose, or any of a number of other issues that Trump’s supporters are so PASSIONATE about that they will utilize violence without a second thought, and with Trump’s approving smile.

The address by Billy Graham’s idiot son made the Trump agenda quite clear, so there is no need to wait and see. The evangelicals and other similar easily manipulated people are the Trump base. He’ll play to them, and anybody else be damned!
jsmnyny24
FnameLname. You are such an idiot.
“How about we take a deep breath and wait and see” ?????? were also the sentiments of many Jewish people as Hitler started sending people on trains to concentration camps all over Europe.
How you can compare the treatment of Jews by Nazis’ to the “plight” of the LGBTQIA (hope I didn’t miss anyone…) is beyond hysterics. Concentration camps? If I were you, I would jump off a bridge.
GayEGO
We shall just have to wait and see as no one knows what Trump will actually do.
justyouandi
The old administration always deletes their own policy positions when a new administration takes over so that new administration can place their own positions. I’ve heard of other policies that have been deleted within the last couple of hours, so don’t read anything into this.
FnameLname
meow meow meow meow….. we know that however if he is so eager to promote unity and to make headway during the first few hours of his …cough, cough, presidency…cough…. than maybe he should’ve had a replacement ready. Something that brings home the message that we are all equal and will share the same protections under his…cough, cough, leadership, cough… He made a point of bringing up the almighty all that we will build and he made sure the urban problems America experiences will be addressed immediately. Why not make sure your web page spells out the many ways HE will make America great again?
justyouandi
This is all standard procedure. It is exactly as it has been with every transition.
dwes09
When Chuck Schumer referred to equal protection/equal rights for ALL people (and mentioned faiths, races, genders and sexual orientation) today he was soundly booed by the Trump base. You can be pretty certain there will be no LGBT page update unless it is to exhort gay folks to “get right with Jesus”. Trump’s base is glad that they are now free to denigrate and abuse us, and his gay supporters are mostly rich enough that they can insulate themselves against that abuse and could not give a shit about their less fortunate bretheren unless they they are hot for their butts.
justyouandi
I just read that the migration of Obama’s policies to the National Archive is taking an unusually long time, so Trump’s people won’t be able to start their own until that migration is done.
So, this is a non-story.
blackout_boycott
It is no surprise the Trump isn’t for LGBT community rights, as I said in many Facebook memo’s.
Many of his followers claimed to be LGBT, but I knew these were plants to get LGBT people to change their vote to Trump’s advantage.
Also, that Russia interfered with votes in the election to hack the people to vote for Trump as a plant.
But the number one influence of trying to stop LGBT people is not Trump, but Pence. And we all know pences stance on the LGBT community.
I hope that Bruce Jenner had found out he cannot pee in the White House ladies room.
JerseyMike
Freedom isn’t free.. We had to fight for our rights.. We will have to keep fighting..
Truth-is-Truthy
The problem is that we have fought for decades and we thought we won the fight. Now we have to get back up from the floor and fight again. More people will die because of Trump and his supporters. It shouldn’t be like this in a free democratic society. We should fight for our rights and then keep them. To have to keep fighting when the wind changes is emotionally exhausting. It would be nice to just be able to enjoy the fruit of our labors for more than a few days before they are changed and the fight has to commence all over again.
Shannon1981
Pence is our public enemy #1. I am unsure of Trump’s own views here, as he can change positions from the beginning to the end of a sentence. Pence is dangerous as hell. He’d have us all jailed and forced into conversion therapy if he could.
James Hart
Pence is a great guy and will be president in 8 years after Trump’s 2 terms.
RIGay
Well… Regan would never acknowledge AIDS, so since the clock has been turned back to the 1950’s, what do you expect?
Perhaps we should all Email the Whitehouse with the photo of the Executive mansion adorned in rainbow colors and ask “Seems this may have been deleted from your website! Perhaps you need another copy?” – signed a REGISTERED VOTER.

It’s not Trump to watch here. It’s Pence. He is the right-wing ideologue here. That is one scary dude. Our pblic enemy #1.
Shannon1981
Is anyone really surprised? Pence is our Public Enemy #1. He’s never been shy about that fact. If left up to him and him alone, he’d have us jailed and forced into conversion therapy.

Nope. Pleased as punch because it’s driving liberal gays crazy.

I’m sorry about the typos above but I’ve been typing without my glasses in a dim room.
My point is that trans folk and women have hijacked the oppression of men who express homosexual desire.. This has erased the real meaning of homosexual rights.
GLBTQ is a form of oppression because it makes us men “gay” and it also equalizes our oppression with that of others. Women have never been as oppressed as men for homosexual acts. Never.
Just check the history of the law.
Heywood Jablowme
“I’m sorry about the typos above but I’ve been typing without my glasses in a dim room.”
Glad to hear your state can afford mental hospitals! (Must be a “blue” state.) Sorry they had to take away your glasses because, you know… sharp stuff.
Aromaeus
There are homosexual trans men what in the world are you talking about.
dwes09
“My point is that trans folk and women have hijacked the oppression of men who express homosexual desire.. This has erased the real meaning of homosexual rights.”
There are women who have homosexual desire, and trans people (both men and women) who do as well. You really need to seek professional help to anchor your mind to reality. Your disconnect from reality is considerably more upsetting than any typos you might imagine you have made.
justyouandi
Brian what the heck are you talking about?!
MarionPaige
I guess this rants up there with Towleroad deleting his “The Gay Community is dissatisfied with Obama Post”; deleting it means it never existed.
ErikO
Very true. Obama was NOT for LGBT rights and actually defended DOMA and did not end DADT; but he and Hillary have not “evolved” at all and are really not for LGBT rights. Plus when a Presidential administration ends they take down the websites for that administration. Donald Trump did not do this to the website.
dwes09
@erico: What world do you live in!? Certainly not the real one. Trump has filled his cabinet and other appointments with people who intend to force us back into the closet. Did Obama do anything remotely similar? In what way has the right wing EVER supported the enfranchisement of LGBT people in any way
!? Why do you straight people come here to abuse us? We don’t need or want you here, and think your minds are ugly and filled with hate. We all hate you EricO and Marion, and hope you suffer as much as you want LGBT people to suffer. Personally, Given the chance I would spit in your ugly heterosexual faces! We don’t need or want you here. And don’t whine and say you are homosexuals like us, we all know it is a lie.
He BGB
I don’t worry about Trump and LGBT. It’s pence and all the anti gay cabinet members he’s going to let have their way. He had no political office experience and will leave it all up pence and all. Mr Pence is getting a taste of what it’s like to be the most powerful leader in the country and he probably would giggle with delight if 70 year old Trump kicked the bucket. Then be ready for conversion therapy and pray the gay away.
GaybyGod
Yup, and we really set his homophobia in stone, by raising a ruckus outside his home. The man is out for us now… more so than before.

Go away hetero scum! We don’t need your bullshit here! Peddle your hate on some other site, like storm front or other national socialist sites. We have no need here for those like you who hate all gay and lesbian folks and lie about who you are to troll us.
KaiserVonScheiss
There are probably two very good reasons for this.
1. The website is being redone.
2. The new Administration is not likely to be obsessed with identity politics.
Some people need to wake up and stop being so paranoid. Trump is not Hitler. America is not some evil, white supremacist, bigoted country.
We live in a time when anything remotely deemed as racist, sexist, or homophobic can get you fired. If America were so bigoted, why isn’t bigoted language more tolerated?
batesmotel
Very true. It’s rapid paranoia, fear, and drama over nothing. No ones rights have been taken away. It’s just a lot of hot air and noise coming from the weak whiners.
KaiserVonScheiss
So not being paranoid makes me a troll? Good to know.
dwes09
” If America were so bigoted, why isn’t bigoted language more tolerated?”
It is absolutely tolerated among the Trump followers. But you knew that, as you are just another hetero troll scumbag here to bother us. You really are the king of shit as your name implies. So go eat some of it. We have more important things to worry about (like our lives and our freedoms) than idiot trolls like you.
You are just as stupid as the Tia Tequila woman, videoed giving the national socialist salute, unaware that she was just a tool of the white men who plied her with booze.
Perhaps the new administration is not obsessed with identity politics, but the choice of cabinet people , the choice of speakers today and their speeches made it quite clear that they have no use for non-white, non christian people. Clearly that is not an issue for you, and as a heterosexual the anti-gay stance is not an issue either, so please take your comments to breitbart or storm front or some other appropriate national socialist forum.

@Truth-is-Truthy.. Minorities (people of color and gays) will always have to fight for their rights.. If you had to fight to get them you will have to fight to keep them. I don’t like it either but that’s the way some people of this country want it.
bobnla
queerty.com: you are being disingenuous. All departing administrations take down their website informationals; Trump did not do it
Lemonade_16
Brian Good news for you: GLBTQ is a thing of the past. In fact, GLBTQ never was. GLBT is what you’re thinking of, and that was replaced by LGBT eons ago. (Now LGBTQ {IA} ). What do u mean by “it makes us men gay? The G in LGBT covers those identifying as gay, the B is for Bisexual and the Q, queer. Are you whining because women get L for Lesbian? Are the G,B and Q not inclusive enough for you? Would you prefer that the acronym continue to stretch further until there is something for every letter of the alphabet? It really isn’t and shouldn’t be that complicated. Seriously. When did so many people switch from not wanting to be labeled to needing a label so specific, perfect and all-encompassing that it wouldn’t fit on a name tag? (Btw, I identify as queer. But should the Q be dropped from the lineup, my attraction to only men means gay suits me just fine.)
blackhook
My problem with promoting LGBT on the White House internet is that it might encourage the gays to move into the neighborhoods, even the safe suburbs that we all know and love. If the homosexuals would just stay in San Francisco, America can get through this dark period of extra rights for some at the expense of good white people who have Made America Great in the past. I encourage the gays to get with the Trump program, they will be better off and will not be arrested –unless they get too uppity for their own good.
Brian
There is no such thing as a gay man.
batesmotel
First sign of danger? Well, I wouldn’t be so dramatic. You’ve been dramatic for two years and no rights have been taken away from gays. Did anyone really go to the gay page on the White House website? No they didn’t. One activist went to check. They told everyone and the media picked it up and everyone’s going hormonal about it. Until Donald Trump actually does something that takes away your rights, don’t worry so much. If he does and you’re negatively affected, then you can complain. As it stands, he hasn’t done anything!
dwes09
No rights have been taken away because Trump has not been in power for two years. Are you really that stupid? Have you paid any attention to the people he has appointed or taken as advisers?
Why do you heterosexual haters come here to bother us anyway. You have more than enough regressive sites of your own. We neither want or need you here breeder!
Kangol
Yep! It’s only going to get worse!
GaybyGod
We raise a ruckus at Mike Pence’s home, ridiculing, mocking and wiggling butts at him and his family! And we are surprised that after he is in power, he doesn’t respect us and our rights? Maybe we should have heeded the words of a very wise person, “when they go low, we go high”.
dwes09
He didn’t respect us or our rights prior to his rise to power. Did you somehow miss that (he has been vocally and legislatively anti-gay for years)? His choice as the running mate of trump was one of the first signs that Trump intended to undermine our progress. But as you are likely a heterosexual here under a fake name to troll, you probably like the idea of it.
We will never allow folks like you to force us back into the closet!
GayEGO
We can look at this as no longer being an issue and we are moving on to the future, hopefully!
Neonegro
BRAVO, there should be no such page on the new POTUS site.
