1 Reason (Among Many) to Watch Nurse Jackie

nurse-jackie3

Besides Edie Falco starring? Besides Steve Buscemi directing? Besides the drug-infused antics typical of a Showtime series? Besides cutie Haaz Sleiman as gay nurse Mohammed? Because Dr. Fitch “Coop” Cooper (played by the lovable and hunky Peter Facinelli) not only has a disorder best described as “sexual touching Tourette syndrome,” but he also has two mommies played by the excellent Swoosie Kurtz and Blythe Danner. Nurse Jackie premieres on Showtime Monday at 10:30pm EST.

Um, no. The reason to watch is to see beautiful gay actor Haaz Sleiman as Jackie’s fellow nurse and friend. He’s got it all over Facinelli in the looks department.

I looked Haaz up and he’s yummy, but I still prefer Facinelli.

Um, sorry to be a downer but the show tries to hard to be “dark” and “edgy” and comes off as desperate Emmy bait. Haaz is practically the only redeeming thing about the show at all as it wastes the talents of everyone else involved. Everything Jackie does after the first scene is predictable, right down to the “surprise” reveal. Give me Mad Men and True Blood over this any day.

I would love to give the show the benefit of the doubt but I just do not take Edie Falco seriously as an actress. She was cast perfectly as the low-life spouse of the equally low life Tony Soprano.

I saw the show and loved it. I don’t think everything was predictable either. I loved it when she forged the donor card and I loved it when she flushed the guys ear. I cannot wait to learn more about her home life, considering her affair at work.
