New York-based HX Media ain’t making any friends up in Boston.
The company’s New England Blade ruffled some feathers when they printed what they called “the official guide to Boston pride.” Too bad the Boston Pride planners didn’t give them the green light. Needless to say, rival paper – and pride guide publisher – Bay Windows is not pleased:
…For those of you who care about good business practice and like to support businesses that support the LGBT community, just know that “official” affiliation with Boston Pride is based on a contractual agreement between the Pride Committee and whoever they’re doing business with, in this case the publishers of Bay Windows, Jeff Coakley and Sue O’Connell.
Coakley and O’Connell earned “official” Boston Pride sponsorship status by agreeing to share revenue from advertising sales to the guide with the Committee. And the revenue the committee gets goes to make Boston Pride fun and fabulous for you. Any other guide claiming to be “official” is basically ripping off the Pride Committee and in effect, ripping you off.

It’s the exact the battle here in Minneapolis between Lavender magazine & Twin Cities Pride.
Unnecessary DRAMA!

I’ll keep that in mind when picking up my pride guide. I still think the Phoenix’s pride guide for the straight’s is the best of them all.

HX Media only cares about making $$$, not community or pride

It’s amazing that Bank, Lacinski and the rest of the HX Hoodlums identify as gay men, they are bottomfeeders, the worst of our community…they do nothing but try to exploit, undermine and use us until they have no use and then move on….New York is almost dry…Philly wouldnt have it so they ran and now they have popped up their tent of voodoo magic in beantown and the locals are telling them to get the fuck out…..good for them!!

HX acting unethically? What a surprise.

Pride is trademarked now? I missed that.

Let’s review: HX doesn’t pay their freelancers, they are stealing money from a non-profit in Boston, they lie to their advertisers, they blamed the GLBT community in Philadelphia for the demise of HX Philly – and that’s just the beginning.
Good for Boston Pride for not backing down! HX moved into Boston and they think they can push everyone around. The non-profit organizations in Boston are furious over this. Boston has a tight GLBT community and people don’t forget shit like this.

HX took a respected name in Boston IN NEWSWEEKLY and junked it to put out their piece of garbage and fired everyone who made IN what it was and wound up screwing the owner they bought it from. Nice work, guys. You’ll be gone shortly, and no one will miss you.

Get a life drama queens. I guess you don’t remember when the assimilations at Gay Bimbos and essentially decimated GCN. The Pride Committee does not own “Boston Pride”. It is owned by a seafood company – look it up. This is a non-event and what we do not need in-fighting. Happy Pride!

I would normally say that this is just unnecessary drama, but we’ve sat by and watch Matthew Bank and David Unger buy worthwhile publications and make them irrelevant and terrible. They deserve whatever they get for their years of cheating the people who have done good-faith work for them. I hope they have to sell all of their Hamptons homes and fancy apartments. Welcome to Brooklyn, Matthew!

Hey Welcome – I think most of the staff at Gay Bimbos was born AFTER the GCN hooha. Time to let go and move on to new grudges!
And a funny thing about this web business – you can own http://www.bostonpride.org and not own Boston Pride, Inc. Although the thought of a fish company owning Boston Pride promises endless possibilities.

And again how does this really relate to me? Not much.
How much does it relate to Andrew Belonsky and his hatred/dislike for all things HX related? A lot.
I have a few friends who work for HX and they are definitely not bottom feeders.
