If It Weren’t For Groups Like Lambda Legal, Who Would Speak Up For You?

Think gay rights are special rights? Then recall parents-of-three Janice Langbehn and Lisa Pond, who endured the type of (legal) discrimination at Miami’s Jackson Memorial Hospital nobody should have to endure. After collapsing just before she and her family were to embark on a family cruise, Pond died there brain aneurysm, and with the help of Lambda Legal, Langbehn sued.

There are untold numbers of similar stories like this one — perhaps not as headline-worthy because nobody died, but similarly trying, frustrating, and unjust.

(The good news: Pond’s heart was donated to a man who’s alive today because of it.)
