Some great stuff has been bubbling up from CPAC, the annual Conservative Political Action Conference, in Washington, DC—mostly Republitards burying themselves spouting inane rhetoric that pushes them further to the fringes of American politics.
But as HyperVocal points out, the conservative cabal is also a hotbed of homo cruising (presumably of the closeted kind). Slade Sohmer trolled recent Craigslist postings in the DC area and came up with quite a few CPAC-related M4M ads.
“These were all posted within the last day or two,” writes Sohmer. “We did not plant any of them or alter them in any way. And we’re genuinely rooting for this lot, hoping all these guys score—it doesn’t matter what side of the aisle you sit on, or what you sit on, everyone’s entitled to some lovin’ they prefer.”
We wouldn’t go that far—we kind of think being a kapo means you should suffer an eternal case of blueballs, but we’re kinda mean like that.
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
Here’s a small sample of what’s turned up:
Oh yeah, “bi-guy.” Like any closet case at CPAC is bi. That’s right up there with “I’ve never done this before” and “Oh that’s just a cold sore.” Dollars to donuts, this is Aaron Schock.
Wow, this guy show’s initiative—a real go-getter! Too bad he’s only (snicker) 21. “The Group Leader for President in 2026!”
In case you can’t read it, he says:
CPAC? 29 (penn quarter)
Im am looking to host a CPAC attendee/s. like guys with a conservative look. NSA
And applicants get extra points if they’re hairy, white and married. Ah, there are those good wholesome family values conservatives are always talking about!

Somebody should infiltrate and take screens shots of Grindr.

These guys’ self hatred is the reason for all the homophobia in the US today.
Shannon1981
Out them. Every last one. And, in the mean time, spread this post and the others floating around far and wide.

I was in the hotel today. Lots of cuties.

Send in Chris Hansen and some ice tea!

I always thought 50% of the men in the GOP were gay. I think I underestimated it.
John S.
I messed around for a while with a former pretty high up Republican operative and, yeah, he was very much into the humiliation role play thing. Kind of disturbing. Not surprisingly, he had a reputation in the media for being a ball-busting asshole, but really wanted me to tie him up and find a bunch of guys to use him. I’d lay money that his was one of the ads.
CJ
I think these ads are fake. Just made for fun and / or scandal.

Has anyone noticed that American is misspelled as ‘Anerican?’
DC Dookie
What?!? These things were planted. Why would someone cruising for sex mention that they’re part of CPAC? And why would they open themselves up to the possibility of being set up for scandal by people like Queerty’s Dan Avery, who trolls Craigslist for any hint of a conservative looking for gay sex? The answer is they would not—they would be much more discrete. Just more liberal fantasy, like Rick Perry’s “secret gay lifestyle”.
GOD (gay old dude)
@Shannon1981: And by outing these guys, we would accomplish . . . what, exactly? Running them out of office, like Larry Craig, sure. Destroying their name, yeah. Ruining their families and other personal relationships—check. Setting them and the government up for all kinds of lawsuits. And yet you don’t seem to understand that when a public figure is outed, it’s the gay community that comes across as vicious and vindictive, all because said individual didn’t come to bat for us. And how do you think it looks to the public in general when the gay community cheers the lynching of one of its own? Or are you so militant that you don’t care?
ousslander
GOD@GOD (gay old dude): That’s because they don’t believe the gay conservatives are one of them. They are the the other that needs to be marginalized and denied a voice. If you don’t tow the party line, you are an enemy.
XopherH
Great little window on the closet culture of the right, but seriously, is the bi-phobia really necessary? Sneering at the guys labeling themselves bi because… what? Bi is another code word for “gay guy in denial”? Seriously? Do you guys think that Nirvana is the hot new rock band, too?
Riker
@DC Dookie: Not everybody who is gay or bi at CPAC is closeted. There are plenty of openly gay conservative men. If I didn’t have to work this week, I would have taken the trip there too.
Not that I would have resorted to Craigslist, mind you. I prefer being able to meet and flirt in person, or something like Grindr as a last resort. Craigslist just seems a little more distasteful, like it was made for people who can’t get laid in person.
Oh, ok.
@GOD (gay old dude): I think cheating on their wives because they aren’t actually into women is what is “ruining their family”.
Do you really think it’s ok for a gay man to lie to a woman, tell her he loves her, and sleep with men behind her back? And that’s before factoring in STDs from the anonymous sex these idiots are having.
Yes they do deserve to be outed.
Dupont Circle CSI

@Oh, ok.: Of course I don’t condone extramarital activity. But then again, I don’t condone marriage at all—gay or straight. Rarely does it turn out well.
The embarrassing thing about this Craigslist “scandal” is the glee the gay community gets out of outing someone. Like they had it coming, or something. It makes “gay pride” an oxymoron for me.
Shannon1981
@GOD (gay old dude): They are raging hypocrites and I do not consider them one of us. They are not gay. They are closeted self loathing homosexuals working against us. They are every bit as much the enemy as Rick Santorum.

“What?!? These things were planted. Why would someone cruising for sex mention that they’re part of CPAC?”

If you are actually asking this question then you must be lying about living in DC. They are mentioning it because they want to meet others just like them…i.e. people who are ALSO closeted and won’t out them. The same reason married guys will cruise for other married guys.

The “subtle” kapo reference in there was completely inappropriate. I realize that professionalism and responsible journalism aren’t necessarily huge factors in how this site reports the news, but step up your game a little bit. Don’t insult your readers’ intelligence.

@Shannon1981: Excuse me? I’m gay, and I’m a (moderate) Republican. I believe in approximately 80% of the Republican party’s platform, and 20% of the Democratic one. Don’t you dare tell me i’m not gay just because I vote differently than you do.
Evji108
You think these ads are fake? Just go to craigslist for DC, go to men-for-men and put CPAC in the search box, and voila: 25 hits. (today Feb 12, 2012) This is very real and I know it is sort of unbelievable that so many men would be so invested in a group that is so against their own self – interest. The world is obviously much more twisted than we imagine. Rather sad for these guys, from my point of view.
David Ehrenstein
@GOD (gay old dude): “And by outing these guys, we would accomplish . . . what, exactly? Running them out of office, like Larry Craig, sure. Destroying their name, yeah. Ruining their families and other personal relationships—check. Setting them and the government up for all kinds of lawsuits.”
SOUNDS LIKE A PLAN!
Riker
@David Ehrenstein: So, you’re saying that its a good thing to destroy someone’s life because their political beliefs are different than yours? If this is what Democrats believe, I’m glad i’m not one.
Storm
@Riker: You mean the way conservative republicans have destroyed gay lives for decades because gays are different?
Let’s all pause to bleed a tiny drop and shed a tear.
Shannon1981
@Riker: IF you vote against our rights, you are a shame to this community. To the closet cases spewing homophobia in public and cruising CL in secret…well they deserve their outings. A friend and I are already planning to save for a trip to CPAC next year just for this purpose.
divkid
@Shannon1981: as ever, you’re on the money:
these people are not innocent bystanders in the culture war: even if they never throw a rock themselves, if they do nothing to restrain the hands of those that *do* they are just as guilty — mandating remedial action.
and many of them are only *too* willing to bloody their hands in the onslaught against us. it’s not unreasonable therefore to conclude they’re especially deserving of our opprobrium, even more so than their straight brothers-in-arms: because their offence is compounded by the most cynical rank hypocrisy, born less of ideology than mere petty party advantage; and achieved by trampling over the backs of better homos, with cheerful alacrity.
they can’t help being gay, they were born that way; but right wing social conservatism, however, is a CHOICE. a bad one if you’re a gay… we shouldn’t waste a second in considering the niceties. not one. out them. always
and of the consequences? let their counsellors, psychiatrists, wives and families *finally* deal with all that crazy — for far too long have we alone borne the consequences of these sick puppies malign internal psychodrama.

whereas, riker et al., their position on this matter is indistinguishable from that of a concern troll.
DC Dookie
@Shannon1981:
Sorry, Shannon, but your “mission” is nothing short of revenge for a wrong you assume is the fault of others. It’s not CPAC’s fault that you’re gay, nor is it their responsibility to encourage your personal value. You obviously know no Republicans, because if you did you would be aware that it’s primarily the religious ones who object to homosexuality—the rest may not condone it, but they honestly don’t care. But I suspect that you’re kind of caught up in your own little gay bubble that has no room for the inclusiveness of not-gays.
To say that you’re planning a trip to next year’s CPAC to out somebody is about as liberal, tolerant, and inclusive as me going to the NAACP awards and setting someone up to be busted for smoking crack. What’s that? Not all blacks are crack smokers? Well, guess what? Not all gay Republicans are “closeted, self-loathing individuals,” to use your term. But don’t take my word for it—step outside your bubble one day and try to get to know one or two of us. If you find yourself still a hateful person intolerant of us, then that’s your prerogative.
Shannon1981
@DC Dookie: You vote against your own rights. Which one you going for this time? Newt, who explicitly said if you care about gay rights don’t vote for him, Santorum, who is about as homophobic as they come,Mitt, who is running on a platform of being tough on gay marriage…need I go on? The GOP is, at large, absolutely despicable when it comes to gays.
And the ones in those CL ads are self loathing closeted homosexuals. You’re an uncle tom if you vote for any of these individuals.
Exceptions to the rule only being the ones who actually realize that forcing their views on others is not right. And yes, for the record, I realize they do exist, and they cross party lines to prove it and I applaud them.
Shannon1981
@divkid: Thanks. They ARE concern trolls. Keep daddy’s money ad pseudo approval while still being a homo. win win for them, as they usually are not out, and even if they are, they hardly care about true Equality. If they did, GOProud would take a stance on Marriage Equality.
Shannon1981
@DC Dookie: And I don’t hate gay republicans. I simply pity you, and I am an activist with a drive for equality, and anyone who stands in my way, gay or not be damned.
Cam
Here is the issue to the folks coming in here and saying things like “Well I believe in 80% of the GOP platform so don’t tell me I’m not gay.”
What platform? Military spending tripled under Bush and yet the size of our forces did not go up, with the majority of the money being handed out to contractors and paid for weapons platforms that mysteriously were never completed. Or govt. employees were fired and replaced with the exact same employees only now they were contractors and cost 3 times as much.
Or is it their platform on immigration? Well which one? They’re all over the map on that one.
Is it their platform on taxes? They say they don’t want ANY tax rates to go up. And yet funny, then they turn around and fight keeping the payroll tax low. The ONLY tax rate that only benefits the middle and lower classes, and the ONLY tax rate cut that economists say will GUARANTEE a boost in the economy if kept low because poor and middle class citizens spend a far greater percentage of their income, whereas people like Mitt Romney already purchase anything they need and a tax cut doesn’t mean they will spend more.
Oh, and there is the anti-gay part of their platform.
I’m sorry, but if a restaurant will not let me come through the front door and would make me eat their food in the ally out back guess what…I”m NOT going to go there no matter HOW good their food is.
DC Dookie
@Shannon1981:
Your “drive for equality” is so noble—except that you just admitted that you’re planning on ambushing someone at next year’s CPAC, so you erased any nobility you might have gained. I’m sure glad that Dr. MLK didn’t practice the same tactics you propose in your “drive for equality.”
Shannon1981
@DC Dookie: Ambushing? The only ones I have a problem with are those who work against us. You might justify your Uncle Tom ways…but there’s really no excuse for gay people working against us, cheating on their wives, and cruising for gay sex at these conferences. Are you saying the George Rekkers and Larry Craigs of the world didn’t deserve what they got?
And you still haven’t answered which of those asinine homophobes you plan to vote for. Not that it matters…they all hate you.
Riker
@Cam: The thing is, I recognize that my party often falls short of the things it claims to value. Democrats often fall short of their ideals, too.
I believe in lower taxes for everyone, smaller federal government and keeping the government out of our private lives. I try to vote for people who feel the same way I do. A lot of the time, the people I vote for end up doing the opposite (as do Democrats), and I try to vote more carefully and do more research next time.
Yes, the majority of Republicans are antigay. But if we try to abandon them, how will they ever change? That’s 40% of the nation that will end up hating us for eternity. If we join them at the table and participate in their system, that’s the only way to win hearts and minds.
Believing in smaller government doesn’t make me a second-class citizen.
Shannon1981
@Riker: I’d rather get my rights and have them hate me and not be able to do anything about it, than to have them hate me on a legal level. Your logic is an epic fail.
Now, I’ll ask you the same thing I asked DCDookie: Mittens, Frothy, or the oversized Newt?
They all hate you and wish to be in your bedroom, after all, even though that is what you say you don’t want.
Riker
@Shannon1981: The thing is, the pendulum swings both ways. If Democrats, say win both houses of Congress and the White House, and they were to overturn DOMA, eventually Republicans will win all three and reinstate it. All of this has happened before, and all of it will happen again. The only way to break the cycle is to make Republicans not WANT to discriminate against us. An uphill battle, but slow progress is being made.
As for your question, my preferred candidate is Rep. Paul. Romney is a distant second place, but if Gingrich or Santorum get the nomination, i’ll just have to hold my nose and vote for Obama.
Riker
@Riker: As another aside, if a Democrat embodied the ideals of smaller government and lower taxes, I would vote for them too. As an example, I live in New York. When Andrew Cuomo was running for governor, he pledged to sign a property tax increase, initiate ethics reform, cut spending without raising taxes, and sign same-sex marriage into law. That was an agenda I could get behind, as opposed to his opponent, who was just angry at everything. So, I voted for him. Now that he was true to his word and accomplished all of that, I will gladly vote for him again.
Shannon1981
@Riker: @Riker: Good man. I am no Paul fan, but at least he’s sane and not actively hateful.
It isn’t that I don’t get what you are saying. But there are some seriously dangerous Republicans in power right now. For real. They’d lynch everyone not straight, white, and Christian if they could, and outlaw birth control to keep women barefoot and pregnant, and reverse the civil rights act of 1964 as well. There is no denying it. And how do you propose to turn back hatred that deep?
Riker
@Shannon1981: There are some people that I don’t think will ever change. There are still a small handful of people (mostly ex-Dixiecrats) who want to bring back segregation, but the mainstream Republican party ignores them. Hopefully, in another decade or so, the people you speak of will be part of that tiny minority.
Not everybody can be changed. However, a large part of the Republican Party is made up of sane people who are willing to listen to a well-reasoned argument. They just aren’t the ones that you see on television. These people, who make up the real base, are the ones I want to change.
Shannon1981
@Riker: Good luck with that. I do admit my view is colored by being born and raised in small town South Carolina. Basically, even in 2012, the general climate is one of “would you like a side of racism with that homophobia and misogyny?”
divkid
@Riker:
but if gay republicans inside the system remain closeted how are they changing hearts and minds? or if they’re not not actively helping to change policy how is that changing the party? and how can we differentiate the good republicans from the lindsey grahams of this world. surely you see that there’s an implicit contract here: don’t work to undermine our rights and we won’t come after you.
no one would argue that isn’t a good idea for us and society at large to have lgbt in all spheres of interest, or that we owe an undying bond of servitude to any one party just by dint of being gay.
and that kind of “infiltration” has certainly borne fruit in the uk. the conservatives are making “the gay” compulsory nowadays. but that was done by a two prong attack: yes, change from inside; but *as* importantly attacks from without including *many* outings — so many until it finally became too embarrassing for them to pretend they were the natural party of the family, or to even dare to utter the phrase “family values” ever again. or so we hope.
if you don’t want to be outed don’t try to hurt us; or maybe have more nights in with the missus, sure the sex is awful but there’s always jenga, or hungry hippos. maybe not twister though.
