Freddie Ljungberg is NOT retired! He only retired from International play, which most soccer players do when they get to their early-to-mid 30′s.

He plays every game for Seattle Sounders FC in Major League Soccer. He’d still be in Europe right now if it weren’t for the fact that he played two years with a broken hip… and didn’t even know it. He was considered a liability after he had surgery to repair the damage and Seattle made him a juicy offer.

The guy is a fantastic guy off the field, but this year has been rough on him. He’s picking up the reputation for being a complainer, of both his teammates and of the referee’s calls. Some argue that this is a contributing reason for Seattle’s poor start to the season.

I hope he can help lead a turnaround because Seattle’s fans deserve a decently performing team.

Of course… they can keep on losing to my Galaxy. I won’t mind. ;-)

Freddie is a wonderful guy who, as a few have stated before, is not retired from soccer at all (something you’d have learned if you’d read the entire article from which your “gay” quote was pulled). We’re thrilled to have him play here in Seattle.

He would be attractive if he weren’t so small, first time I saw him in Stockholm was rather disappointed – also I like short guys (bf is shorter) but this guy has been over exposed.
