Woof woof oink! Pups and gear pigs clustered at the Seattle Eagle last Friday for Arf!, a night of kink, fetish, bath house disco and sleazy dance tunes. Zak the Barber and Pup Kai hosted a frisky puppy pile, and DJs Tony Radovich and Nark kept the animals dancing all night.
These days, it seems like gay bars are an endangered species, with all the good old gritty hole-in-the-wall dives closing up shop. Nice to see the gays can still break out their harnesses and work up some musk when the occasion calls for it.
PLAYS WELL WITH OTHERS
Place looks great, pretty much every flavor of Gay available there……… :p
Yes it is so very sad that Gay bars are going the way of T Rex. I will never forget my first time venturing into a Gay bar. I was actually shaking as I walked thru the door. After a few doses of liquid courage, I was completley at ease and had my first random hook. Was amazing! Became a regular and met some of my closest friends there who will be that for life……
Now with all the available options to meet and greet online younger Gays really can’t connect with the community. Grindr is basically a deliver service for penile pleasure. While it is great when you just wanna quick hook, it doesn’t allow guys to make friends and feel part of the community……….

@PLAYS WELL WITH OTHERS: Speaking of Seattle my first gay bar was Neighbors. I think back then (1987) it only opened up in the alley. I remember trembling as I walked up to the entrance. Then some big drag queens came out and I bolted. Of coarse nature drew me back.
I can see the plus and minus of sites like Grindr. Their everything you say but offer the advantage of being sober. I’ve been too damn drunk too often when getting together with someone after a night at the bar. Then there’s the bar/club drama you don’t have to deal with. Lastly, I have some long lasting friendships from cyber dates. Yes penile pleasure is part of it but I believe it’s for most just an excuse for connecting to someone.

@PLAYS WELL WITH OTHERS: At 71, I am much too old to be interested in such scenes, though I will fight as best I might to protect them: America is the only country in the world where you can be as outrageous and get away with it. My kind went out with disco.
PLAYS WELL WITH OTHERS
@jmmartin: I 100% Co-sign. The local scenes offered something that just can’t be captured via and app………
@Stache99: I too was traumatized by my first Draq Queens :p Then I discovered they usually are the life of the bar and added a whole lot to the scene………….
Captain Obvious
All the brown guys huddled in a group together with one token white friend. Teehee.

@PLAYS WELL WITH OTHERS: ya, it is sad that bars are closing. when I came out in Winnipeg, MB in ’84, there were at least 4 gay bars and a couple of bars that catered to a large gay clientele. Now there’s only 1 left. I don’t know how many times i walked by Giovanni’s Room before I finally got up the nerve to go in. They were playing ‘I love my radio (my midnight radio). I had so much fun there drinking rum and coke- with lime. Getting up the nerve to go into these places was part of the growing up experience we all went through- facing fears and finding out that they were largely unfounded.

@Stache99: Thank god that homo hating muslim dude did not succeed in trying to burn Neighbs down last New Years. When that SOB is done serving his prison sentence they need to deport his ass and ban him from ever returning to the USA. Or better yet maybe someone will shank him in prison like they did to Dahmer and he will die.

I live on the same block as the Eagle but have never been a regular there. I always felt like I was not butch enough to hang out there back when I was hitting the bars regularly. I just turned 42 but hardly ever go out to the bars now but if I did I would hit the Eagle more as I have gotten more comfortable going there and I think it is a little more mainstream gay now than it used ot be when it was more hard core leather/levi. I may have even gotten a little butcher. lol

After visiting “The Eagle” a few years ago…this classic clip sums it up perfectly…grown men trying way to hard to enjoy themselves by being catty and “the whole look at me please look at me but NOT you syndrome”…while sporting what has been deemed the latest facial/body hair trend coupled with weak drinks and tired looking go-go boys that need to march down to Seattle Community College and finish their degrees
