I’m glad folks think I look different! I’m living a different, happy, more fulfilling life, and I’m thrilled that perhaps it shows. My friends say that I look peaceful. I am healthy. For a long time I wasn’t doing such a good job with that. I took on a schedule that is not realistically sustainable and didn’t allow for taking care of myself. Rather than stopping to recalibrate, I kept running until I was depleted and made bad choices about how to conceal the exhaustion. I was aware of the chaos and finally chose different things. I did work that allows for being still, making a home, loving someone, learning new things, growing as a creative person and finally growing into myself. People don’t know me in my 40s. People don’t know me [as] healthy for a while. Perhaps I look different. Who doesn’t as they get older?! Ha. But I am different. I’m happy.”
— Renée Zellweger’s statement to People magazine on her red carpet appearance in Beverly Hills on Monday that led to speculation she’s undergone extensive plastic surgery

What a dumbass. She needs mental counseling.
Trippy
I really don’t see what all the media fuss is about. She DOES look different, but she doesn’t look like a plastic surgery addict the way Meg Ryan does. She had the fatty tissue removed from her eyelids. It looks natural, so good for her. If anything, I always found her to be odd-looking before. She looks like a normal, beautiful woman. People need to lay off.
redcarpet30
So she went to rehab and then got an eye lift and a little Bo to freshen up afterwards.
Desert Boy
I liked the first version of Renee Zellweger and I am sure I will like the cloned version too.
gauty
@Trippy: Right? Why the fuck does everyone feel like she owes anyone an explanation? Her face, her choice. I feel like this might be one of those watershed moments though, that will launch a bunch of think-pieces and further school people on keeping their ignorant criticism to themselves. Especially concerning the stigma against plastic surgery and the unhealthy double standard towards aging women.
o.codone
true enough, she looks attractive, but she doesn’t look at all like Rene Z. maybe not good idea to trade your famous, trademark look when it was actually pretty good to begin with.
MarionPaige
the photo looks a bit like another actress who was on Pushing Up Daisies. I’ve always wondered who was giving Renée Zellweger work. With all of the actresses in the world, why pick Zellweger – especially for Bridget Jones?
It’s like this English Actor who plays “the Black Kid” on How to Get Away With Murder – the guy looks like he has moss on his head instead of human hair. Why him?
vive
@o.codone, you are right. Jennifer Grey did the same thing (changed her trademark look) and was never employable again. Many actors are famous not because they are handsome or beautiful but because they look like characters, and that was the case for Ms. Zellweger, and now she went and destroyed what she had to offer. Not smart.
miguel
is she through with acting?? Her original looks were her trademark and made her appealing as a lead actress. Isn’t she also a Gen X’er? She kinda looks like she and Glenn Close could’ve been besties in high school in this latest pic! The surgeries made her look older instead of younger or well preserved. I guess she’s found Zen though and is at peace. I’m still puzzled though.
Will L
She looks better, in my opinion. As long as this doesn’t become a habit. Everyone needs a fresh start now and then.
Billy Budd
She looks OLDER than her age. Clear and classic example of Plastic surgery disaster.
Cam
When you have had such blatantly obvious plastic surgery it just makes you sound stupid when you claim that you look different because you’re happy and healthy. She is unrecognizable, that doesn’t come from meditating and thinking good thoughts.
Either say no comment or say yeah, I had some eye work done, but if you’re going to make such a radical change don’t act shocked that people asked about it.
And for all the people fanning themselves in righteous outrage that people are DARING to comment on this, you may have forgotten exactly what industry it is that Ms. Zellweger works in.
froufrou
Well, she doesn’t look like a sweaty puffy coke whore anymore
LadyL
Whoa!
Well…I’m glad she now feels all healthy and happy and centered and growing and stuff… But of course that’s not why she had the work done…
Hollywood is such a mean place. Look what it makes nice people do.
Manchester
I’m sure she cries in her mansion holding her Oscar every night dwelling on keyboard warrior’s idiotic comments. Still one of my favorite actresses no matter what.
brytta
@gauty: @gauty: Actually, it looks like Renee has the problem with women aging gracefully.
“Hi, I’d like to order the Jennifer Grey.”
“Who?”
“Exactly.”
Kangol
I say cut her some slack. Most blond Hollywood actresses (Meryl Streep is the rare exception) don’t hold up so well past the age of 40, and Zellweger is 45. She underwent plastic surgery and it has altered her look somewhat, but if she’s happy that’s what matters. She can still act and still ought to be able to appear in films and on the stage if she qualifies for the parts.
NJjoe
She’s experienced odd behavior in the past. Hey, she is free to do with face as she pleases but the facial surgery is sooo extreme. When this story broke, I had no idea that indeed the current photo of her was actually Renee Z. I still don’t get the short-lived marriage to Kenny Chesney claiming “fraud.” She’s a bit two fries short of a Happy Meal.
tricky ricky
if academy award winning actress renee zellweger wants to date a former heroin addict (read it in the daily mail) and look like an old mare winningham who are we to judge?
Cam
@tricky ricky: OUCH! Considering Mare Winningham looked 40 when she was 25 that is harsh! lol
tricky ricky
@Cam: I was wondering if anyone would even know who mare was these days.
Cam
@tricky ricky: Yes, she played the frumpy girl in……well pretty much everything she was ever in right? lol
jwtraveler
What’s controversial about it? I liked her better before the surgery, but it’s her face; she can do what she wants.
